Dr. Steven Paul Overn

This is the worst doctor I have ever seen in my life. I had a prescription from a specialist waiting for me at the pharmacy and this man actually called and canceled it. He can’t even write the prescription, but he called and canceled it from another doctor. He doesn’t listen to one word you say and my previous PCP wrote all up my prescriptions yet this doctor wanted to refer me to five different specialist, so not sure what he actually does? Hands-down one of the worst experiences I’ve had in medical.

Exactly as Gary Fung! This doc said the same thing to me about anxiety, and went on and on about how that is the root cause of all problems. I didn't ask for a therapist, but a medical opinion. Also overcharged for everything, and combined doctor visit with annual. Wish I'd seen reviews before. [EDIT: After a few weeks, I might have been a bit harsh. Overall, he did help me with my health. But, needs better patient communication and empathy, and willing to be able to have patients trust you. So happy with Dr Overn. He is attentive and responsive. Office visits are managed extremely well without long unnecessary wait times.

This is the worst PCP I have ever seen in my life. First of all I have high blood pressure and have been taking meds for around 8 or more years and everything is fine and stable that said on my last visit back in September 2021 for a physical exam Dr. Overn decides to go off on a tangent about people being misdiagnosed with high blood pressure hypertension when it's really anxiety!! Dr. Overn went on and on about this subject until my ears did not want to listen anymore and based upon his strong beliefs about this subject he decides upon himself to discontinue my meds just like that.. and sends me out of his office with a website to research anxiety and for me to self diagnose myself with it so I can come back to his office and be prescribed some other med of his choice. Also.. I'm around 50 and since I have been 45 my last PCP before I found Dr. Overn would do a much detailed physical check up checking for many things that could come up at this age he likes to skip everything saying we can check that when you're 50.. Went for regular annual physical and nurse charged me for a doctor visit stating that doctor asked me a question about my heart and I responded to that question. Ridiculously selfish behavior of nurse which is very unprofessional. Not going back again.

Horrible experience. I went looking for help with 10+ symptoms and he asked what the purpose of my visit was and if I was depressed-non of which had anything to do with my symptoms. He thought I was looking for medication when I was looking for help.

Original Post about March 2020 Used Dr. Overn for over 18 years. He was pretty decent most of the time, however when I come in sick he would push over the counter meds. Mucinex D and Saline every time, no matter how sick.It never worked because of being too sick. Visit number 2 he would give proper meds, but all that could have been handled the first time. Two visits, two co-pays and TIME....to get better was LONG. So I Used Urgent Care many times after that merry go round. He refuses to accept medicare in which he was rude to my in-laws (long standing patients he was friendly with while they were under the age) when they reached medicare age and just dumped them. Did not matter they had regular insurance to pay or offered to pay out of pocket, he did not care. When he sold out to Baylor things got worse. He "fired" his best nurse who knew what was going on and kept things in check, hired some rude staff and the billing got messed up. My insurance gives me a 100 percent free wellness physical every year that includes basic lab work/blood draw. Their office manager will file it wrong under general lab not wellness and I got a copay for the lab. She never admit any wrong doing and insisted I was wrong. Had to find another PCP *** FOLLOW UP DATE 11-20-2020*** Posted above , I stated I left Baylor Family on my own and received notice of patient termination paperwork 10 months ago. My wife had a physical scheduled for Nov. 2020. Baylor refused to see her when she showed up on time for her appointment and lied to her saying I terminated BOTH of us from their care. She never received notice until she showed up. They told her they will check into it and never called her back My "speculation" is the Office Manager had a "grudge" and made this happen. My most concerning observation about Dr. Overn is his drastic change in personality. I saw him on four different occasions. The first three times, I was impressed and encouraged by his genuine wisdom and bedside manner. He appeared very informative and patient. Fast forward to visit number four when I had some questions and concerns about the medicine and dosing he had me on; he became uncomfortably rude and arrogant. He scoffed and folded his arms in the middle of my explanation; I could not believe how quickly he became defensive. He took my care sheet, scratched out all he had recommended for me, and said, "Well, if it's not working, let's just stop." I was in such shock, but I knew I was completely finished involving him in any discussion about my healthcare. My husband is a pharmacist, and I knew I should be titrating down rather than abruptly stopping my medication. With this knowledge, even though, Dr. Overn said, "Just stop," I asked the clarifying question: Do I need to taper off this? He said no. I walked out feeling he is the one who needs some medical attention, truly. Not being derogatory. . .his personality changed that much. My main concern is that, I trust my own judgement; I know all this is about him and whatever he has going on, but many people may not react the same way, and Dr. Overn could have a negative influence on their health. Dr. Overn, is a great doctor who has a methodical approach to treating his patients. He gives you just the right amount of information to understand the issues and provides a clear plan to treat them. He will always ask you if you are OK with the approach and will answer all questions.

Dr. Overn is great. He is friendly, listens well, and always makes sure my problems are addressed. Nursing and front desk staff are nice as well. I was able to schedule online and was seen promptly with minimal paperwork which I did online before hand.

They made a mistake when charging my insurance, so the insurance wouldn’t cover the bill. I’ve called more than 10 times over the course of a month, leaving voice messages, and never got a call back, only getting more copies of my bill which exceeds $1000. Every single time I have called the accounts department, no one ever answers and I am sent to voicemail. This is terrible business practice and a great way to lose customers. He has been my doctor for the last 3 years. He put me on an anxiety medication and it helped me tremendously. I lost my job and no longer had insurance so I couldn't afford the medication all the time. When I went to get a refill on the medication he refused to give one because I couldn't afford it one time and told me to go see a psychiatrist even though he knew I couldn't afford it. Now I don't have the anxiety medication that was helping me function everyday. He was definitely not looking out for my well being. I will be finding a new primary physician. I have never had a family doctor, I have always just gone to my OB-GYN, or just taken anabiotic‘s from our veterinary clinic ???? in the past year have had a couple colds and needed thyroid refill so stumbled upon Dr. Overn in Prosper. He is amazing and his bed side manor is wonderful. Dr. Overn really cares about his patients. As patients we may not always want to hear the truth but I believe whatever medical advice Dr. Overn gives you is always in your best interest. If your looking for a primary physician who is Honest and whose gonna look out for your best interest Dr. Overn is the best.

We’ve been seeing Dr. Overn since our kids were young. We moved away 6yrs ago and back last year and came back to him. He’s attentive and caring and goes above and beyond with patient care. Years ago I had pneumonia and he was a huge help in my healing, even checked up on me, calling me at home when he knew I was having a rough case of it. He even changed course with an enhailer which helped me to finally breath clearer and eat. We’ve been seeing Dr. Overn since our kids were young. I love Dr. Overn! He truly cares about my well being and really takes the time to answer all of my questions. I never have to wait very long to be seen. His receptionists are very friendly and polite. His nurse is just awesome and a great phlebotomist! (I didn't feel a thing and didn't bruise) Under his care I got my diabetes under control, lowered my cholesterol considerably, and lost 50 lbs.! I love Dr. Overn! He might be a good doctor but his receptionist and nurses are really stupid and careless. They refused to see me because they thought I needed to go to an emergency room even though all I needed was for the doctor to check my upset stomach. Obviously if I'm that sick to the point that I need help right away I would go to the emergency room myself I'm not stupid. They are not the doctor so how should they know what I need? If that is the case then whoever that is sick should go to ER and not visit a doctor in his office. I will never go there and tell everyone not to go there. If you have a cold you should go to ER and not to your family doctor. How stupid is that? And this is not the first time this happened before. They told someone else to go to ER and the refused to see her. He might be a good doctor but his receptionist and nurses are really stupid and careless. Please stay away. I went for routine preventive care which is supposed to be fully covered by my insurance company, United Health Care. The doctor's office did additional tests because they feel that should be part of routine preventive care, irrespective of whether the insurance company company covers it or not. As a result of those tests, which I did not need at all, I have been billed additional amount that I need to pay from my pocket. Is this fair?

Dr. Overn, the nurses, and all the staff have always been very helpful to me. I definitely recommend Overn family medicine.

Dr Overn placed information in my medical Records that is untrue. He wanted to see me in his office constantly so he could bill my insurance but these visits would consist entirely of dialogue that could have taken place over the phone. He refused to write prescriptions for pain meds when every medical indicator of pain was present. He labeled me a drug seeker and banned me from his practice, accused me of using illegal drugs with no proof. Made several incorrect diagnoses.

I would recommend Dr. Overn to anyone. He was very patient, kind and a great listener. He heard me and really took the time with me. His Nurse Gina was wonderful too. Everyone made me feel welcomed, even the Office staff upfront and the Office Manager Teresa. If you want a Doctor that will truly listen to you and someone that cares about your wellbeing than Dr. Overn's office is the place to go.

I would highly recommend Dr. Overn to all of my family and friends and anyone looking for a caring, conscientious, and highly intelligent doc. He thinks outside the box and explores all aspects of health care... He takes time to talk to you and get to know you and genuinely cares about helping. There's no one else I would trust to take care of me, my husband, or our kids!!!

Dr. Overn is far from professional in his behavior. Dr. Overn lacks patient empathy. Dr. lacks ability to listen to patients concerns and answer questions.
