Dr. Michael T Newman

Dr.Newman did my hip replacement at St.Marrys in 2019 when other orthopedic doctors were scared to take on the challenge of me having broken screws from an operation when I was 12 & me being 400lbs. I now need a knee replacement & am seeking him out at his new place he practices because he did such a great job with my hip...after being is pain for over 5 years my hip no longer hurts and the care I received b4 ,during, & after my surgery was five star treatment...in my 49 years I have never met or been a patient to a better docter...Dr.Newman is a once & a lifetime doctor you will not find a better doctor that is not is great at what he does but actually cares about his patients more than the numbers!

I have been seeing Dr. Newman for over 5 years now, having had 4 surgeries on both of my knees. He has ALWAYS been kind, personable, a very attentive doctor, always listening to my concerns and there to encourage me on some of my toughest days. He has always kept me informed medically and was supportive emotionally. He is an AMAZING doctor, I HIGHLY recommend him and his services.

Dr. Newman took me on as a patient even with my long list of previous surgeries! I was scheduled for an appt and not long after I had my surgery which has helped tremendously! I felt comfortable talking with him regarding my health issues and he was very attentive to what I said and he listened and made a plan with no false promises but hope for a good recovery and a promise of his best efforts in a situation where things were very complicated and that is all you can ask! He was GREAT, my husband was impressed as well while dealing with my condition! I definitely would recommend him to any of my loved ones to have him care for them I feel they would be in the best of hands as I felt during my time under his care!

I had hip replacement surgery this summer and couldn’t be happier with the results! Dr. Newman’s skills are outstanding and his care and prevention of infection are stellar!

Total knee replacement Jan 2020, exceptional experience with all of Dr Newman’s team. I’m 69 and back to hiking 8-10 hrs. I was sorry to learn that Dr Newman has left St Mary’s and if anyone knows where he is practicing it would be appreciated as I need other knee replacement.

Dr. Newman made me at ease instantly. He took all the time I needed to answer my questions. He gave me many options and allowed me to decide what treatment path I wanted to pursue. I had a total knee replacement six weeks ago and could not be more satisfied with the results of working with Dr. Newman and his team. They are organized, caring, friendly and just plain super. I don't know what more one could expect. I was on my own in two weeks, drove locally in three weeks and am done with PT as I have already reached the doctor's movement expectations. They will continue to check on my progress and comfort by phone every few weeks over the next few months. Your end result comfort is their goal! Now I am just waiting for the healing to be complete.

Highly recommended doctor. The office staff is fabulous! I can’t say anything bad, as everything has always gone well with the way you were treated, even when things were tough. Everyone is very empathetic and goes out of their way to help, especially the doctor.

i have had a hip replacement and a double knee replacement and the care from DR Newman his staff and the hospital was fantastic . when i first started my in home therapy i was talking to her about the lack of black and blues i had and she said all of Dr Newman patents were like that my recovery was great .so if you need a fantastic doctor and a very great bunch of caring people .don't wait and be in pain like i was .Give Dr Newman a call

I am so happy and blessed that I found Dr. Newman and his outstanding team. I had a double, total knee replacement surgery and from my first appointment to my postoperative care I couldn’t be happier with the results and ALL staff ! I am always treated with respect from the front door for temperature check to Dr. Newman . The Medical Assistant and the Physicians Assistant were a pleasure to meet and deal with. I was referred to Dr. Newman last summer for chronic hip pain. I needed a total hip replacement. Dr.Newman and his team explained in great detail what to expect. I had much confidence in choosing him to do the procedure. End result I had my surgery in December of 2020. Start to finish went exceptionally well. Dr. Newman has a great bedside manner, he takes the time to listen to your concerns. I am now six weeks post-op. I have no pain and only use a cane rarely if needed. I am now back to my everyday life activities. Thank you Dr. Newman for giving me my active life back .

I would most definitely recommend Dr. Michael Newman to my family and friends - in fact, I already have. I learned of Dr. Newman through word-of-mouth and the great things patients had to say about him, his quality of care, and his expertise. Throughout the entire process I was well-informed, given all alternative options, and was able to ask multiple questions (and very easily I might add, when not in person, through the MyChart app). Furthermore, amidst a global pandemic, and hence, high hospital census ( and a busy team of employees) I felt safe, comfortable, heard, and well responded to. For someone who was terrified to have bilateral total knee replacements, I am extremely amazed at how smooth the process (and my progress) ensued. I am 6 weeks post operative and am walking, driving, and will soon return to work. I am so glad I went through with the procedure and chose Dr. Newman for my care. As someone who has always been active, I'm off to get my life back! Thank you!

I would highly recommend Dr. Newman he performed Bilateral knee replacement surgery on Sept 15. It was a great success up and walking the same day. I was able to go home the next day with the help of my wife. Now 6 weeks later I'm feeling great. Thanks Dr. Newman and the whole St Mary's staff.

I had a double knee replacement August 13, 2020. Everything went very well, Dr. Newman is highly recommended. Please sent your family or friends if they need help with joints. I am very happy with the results.

Look no further south than St. Mary's Center for Orthopedics in Lewiston, Maine! I recently had hip replacement surgery by Dr. Michael Newman, and I couldn't be more grateful with the process and pleased with the outcome! Dr. Newman is very personable, highly qualified, and he has an excellent team of professionals working on your behalf from beginning to end. St. Mary's Orthopedic wing is comfortable and well-managed by able and caring nursing staff. I was up six hours after surgery and passed the Physical Therapy assessment for clearance to go home. For the following weeks, the practice gave me a choice in determining Home Health Care and Physical Therapy providers, and after six weeks my check-up revealed that I was in good shape and ahead in my healing. There will be a follow-up in two months, and I know that in the meantime I am always welcome to contact Dr. Newman with any questions or concerns. As a former educator I give Dr. Newman an A+++ for my entire experience! :)

I needed a bilateral(both) knee replacement and after my first visit with Dr. Newman I knew he was the surgeon for me. He was very confidant and reaassuring that we could do this together.Everything went as planned and with the help of the excellent nursing staff at St Mary's I was walking on my own within days. I would reccomend him to anyone needing a joint replacement and especially when it involves two knees.

Dr. Newman replaced my hip at the national Military Medical Center, Walter Reed/Bethesda in 2013. Corrected the angle of my foot and the length of my leg in the process. Recovery went without a hitch. he was always attentive and personable, made you feel like you were the only patient he had. Looked him up to see where he went because I have neighbors asking for recommendations, and I still recommend they make the trip from the DC area if possible, that 's how highly I respect his skills.

I would highly recommend this surgeon to anyone. He also has very good bedside manners. He listens to his patients and is very good at explaining procedures and processes .

Dr. Newman and his staff are amazing. Dr. Newman is very empathetic to his patients, and he and his staff are courteous and responsive to concerns. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Because of the education before and after my bilateral knee replacement I had a very positive experience. Dr. Newman and his team let me know what to expect every step of the way. They dealt with my questions in a timely manner but more importantly I was always treated with respect and compassion. I look forward to hiking Bryce and Zion!

My recovery from a total hip replacement was very quick because of the method used and the skill demonstrated by Dr. Newman.

I injured both knee's in 1984 and been living with this problem ever since. Finally I came to the end of my road and couldn't tolerate the pain any more. My wife found Dr. Newman online and found out he did Bilateral knee surgery. On March 26th he and his team performed the Bilateral knee surgery. It was an awesome day. I am now 6 weeks past the surgery and cannot believe the results. I have straight legs again and my knee pain is just about gone. I just have the surgery discomfort to work through which is subsiding fast. For me Dr. Newman and his team was a God-send. I have no complaints at all. I would definitely recommend him and his team to anyone for the knee surgery. He and his team worked in a very professional way and kept me informed about everything related to the surgery. I had to have a total knee replacement/revision after a difficult 1st knee replacement only 4 years ago. This was a complicated revision which also included an adjustment to my MCL I did not go into this surgery lightly and neither did Dr. Newman. Dr. Newman was extremely thorough in his examinations, explanations and follow-thru. I was completely confident in his ability to straighten my knee. The surgery went well and my recovery has amazed my PT team. I definitely highly recommend him.

Dr. Newman is attentive, professional, and personable. He did an excellent job explaining my diagnosis, and the necessary surgery. He did an excellent job performing a long and diffucult surgery, and I have had a great result. I highly recommend Dr. Newman.

I have had numerous orthopedic procedures in the past 47 years that have included two total left knee replacements and repairing a broken left hip. Dr. Newman replaced my right knee on January 22, 2019. He is by far the most compassionate and caring orthopedist I have ever met. He is extremely knowledgeable and listens to his patients’ concerns with genuine understanding. Dr. Newman and his staff are top notch. I am now six weeks post-op, and my recovery has been positive in every way.

November of 2015, Dr. Newman performed a bilateral hip replacement on me. It was his recommendation that I have both done at the same time. The surgery and recovery period was excellent. Now being three years post-op I can say that I am 99.9% pain free and I would highly recommend Dr. Newman and his team for hip and knee replacements.

Dr Newman , enough good can not be said about him.. Both knees replaced with in minutes of each other.. an excellent outcome. Highly recommended by me.

I had a terribly damaged left knee that had deteriorated over the last 39 years. He advised me it was time for replacement and it is not possible to be more satisfied. It has only been 6 weeks post surgery and I am already riding my recumbent bike for 2 miles a day. His knowledge, skill, bedside manner, and all his staff are top notch. I would say to anyone who needs knee replacement, take the time to talk to him before you make you surgeon choice.

Dr. Newman performed a total knee replacement on my right knee. The operation and recovery were excellent, and I would recommend him very highly.

Six years ago I had a knee replacement, then two partial replacements and six weeks ago I underwent a complete revision. Dr. Newman fixed me up so that my knee feels better than it has in fifteen years. He truly gave me my life back !

Dr. Newman did a bilateral knee replacement for me 6 weeks ago. Everything has gone very well. I am 83 years old and so pleased that he wanted to do both replacements at the same time. It cut my risk factors in half and I am ready to start playing golf again

Dr. Newman is kind, caring and yet professional. Before my surgery I told him about my sister who was having aortic aneurysm surgery the day after mine. When he came to visit me a day after my surgery, he asked also how my sister was doing. I was so impressed that he remembered.

Dr Newman is an excellent physician He did a total knee on my right knee that should have been done 15 years earlier and it is now better than my other knee. He takes his time answering all your questions and I feel genuinely really cares about his patients.

I was fortunate to have found Dr. Newman as a second opinion. Upon my initial consultation it was clear that he was the professional I wanted and needed to manage my knee care and most recently 9/11/18 a TKA. He and his team, from office to hospital hit it out of the park when it camed to the education process, compassion and treatment. The level of training and experience Dr Newman brings to patient care are “gold standard” all of the way. I highly recommend Dr Newman and his outstanding team.

My experience with Dr. Newman has been wonderful. He is friendly and caring, yet always professional. Dr. Newman came highly recommended to us by our local ortho dr for a hip replacement. Had an anterior hip replacement recently. One week after Bilateral knee replacement, we are pleased with the results. We met with the doctor, liked his manner and explanation of his and our goals, and his office staff scheduled surgery in a very timely manner. To date, all results are positive; we give a positive recommendation for this doctor.

Talks at my level. Very complete. Has a team of Doctors that he teaches and leads. Nurse Betty is awesome - takes care of every need. 5/5 experience. Tells you exactly what to expect. Best bedside manner I ever experienced and always available.
