Found him friendly and informative. He appears casual but is not. Not big on holding your hand but is thorough.

I am 69 years old. I have been a patient of Dr Nelson for 19 years. He is by far the best doctor I have ever had. He listens, he explains what he feels is the best approach to care and he prescribes medication in a sensible manner. He is honest and tells it like it is, which some people don't want to hear, but it's what you should do to stay healthy.

I would not recommend anyone going to this lazy and careless physician. At the time of my first visit to him, I was in my early 40's. I was tired, puffy, and could not lose weight. All of those symptoms were highly uncharacteristic of my history. He said, "yeah middle-aged is a (enter inappropriate word here)". Dr. Nelson would not consider taking blood work to see if anything was out of norm. After seeing someone who methodically and appropriately took the time to listen to me, I was diagnosed accurately with Hashimoto's, a thyroid condition and autoimmune disease. The symptoms I told Dr. Nelson were clear signs of Hashimoto's: lethargy, inflammation, and weight gain due to thyroid not working. Do not waste your time and money, and most important get an accurate diagnosis.

Dr Nelson is professional and experienced. We have been going to him for over 15 years and would rate him A+. I would recommend him if you do not have a current MD. Branford CT

Been a patient for ~5 years. Always a positive experience. Listens to my input and concerns. Competent and patient. Practice is well run and has been helpful to resolve insurance issues.

I can say that both Dr. Nelson, and Josh the "PC" have been incredibly professional in all of my interactions with them. That said I went to 2 appointments to address yet another resurgence of the gastric (upper) distress that had been first treated 23 years ago with prescription RX (having been on a med for 33 years that causes gastric distress). The first time I went to my Doctor to complain that I was spending at least one day every week in bed with a bucket to barf in, I was prescribed Prilosec. It worked for a while. After missing 4 days of work because I was not capable of doing much more than worrying if this was going to be the second I throw up again, I finally listened to my wife and scheduled an appointment. I was given a script for a twice daily dose of a different med to address the acute symptoms, with the idea that once the immediate problem had been addressed a lower frequency of dosage would be appropriate. I received a letter after going to the follow up appointment so $70 in copayments, and $500 in billed charges, explaining how it was the preference of my insurance co to pay for only one pill a day, regardless of dose, even though that means consuming an entire bottle of pepto bismuth each night. To be blunt, there are more people working in the office to do billing than medicine. We live in a system where that is reality. I saw Dr. Nelson for a tick bite with the typical bulls-eye rash in late 90's and relayed that I had been bitten by two ticks. His PA refused to give antibiotics. Two weeks later I was extremely ill, Dr N told me this was a spider bite & that antibiotics would do no good. Misdiagnosed, I have suffered since. I have neuro-lyme with brain lesions and continue to struggle. When I tried to recover my records I was told they burned in a fire.

My first-ever appointment with Dr. Nelson was a physical. However, he left me with more questions than answers in regards to my care. He was rude and condescending, told me that due to my heart issues that "it's a miracle you're still alive". Seriously? Plus, the day after I had this unfortunate encounter, I was admitted to the hospital for a month -long stay. Dr. Nelson was aware of my physical distress but did nothing about it. One star is way too many, -5 stars for this "doctor "

Dr. Nelson is terrific. He's a straight shooter, doesn't over prescribe medication and is a great listener. You never feel rushed.

Dr. Nelson's practice is under-staffed and as a result, communication is difficult. His practice is unable to handle complicated cases.
