I would highly recommend seeing a different GI specialist. Sotelo seems to lack initiative and is very unresponsive with patients. After expressing my symptoms of chronic fatigue, lots of blood, among other things that were taking their toll on my work and social life, and after voicing my concerns that I may have Crohn’s disease based on family history, he didn’t seem to buy it and told me that usually Crohns patients are short (I.e. have stunted growth) and are in a lot more physical pain than I was. He reluctantly ordered a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy procedure, and the results showed that I had extensive ulceration and chronic inflammation throughout my lower intestine and up into the stomach. Instead of promptly beginning treatment, what followed was a 6 month period of no communication and appointment cancellations, all the while I continued to feel more and more exhausted and more in pain. I finally decided to entirely scrap that project and start all over again with a new GI doctor outside of the Baystate network. I ended up over at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, MA with a great GI fellow over there (Dr. Dimitri Belkin) , and within 5 minutes of my first appointment, he started me on a conservative steroid to help treat my immediate symptoms and get me feeling better right away. He waits over 24 hours when paged to see his patients. Spent only 2 minutes with me. Told me that I was going to have surgery at a specific time. Canceled without telling me. Rescheduled without ever seeing me. Canceled again. Told only maybe could have the surgery the following day. Awful and unprofessional bedside manner. Liar. No faith. DO NOT ever see him.
