When my husband and I first started seeing Tom, we were very pleased. We found him to be honest and forthcoming, never holding back just to save our feelings. When we started meeting with him separately, he would end our sessions by telling each of us not to discuss anything that we talked about. That seemed reasonable at the time, so we're careful not to break that rule. When he recommended a "therapeutic separation" , we agreed and I moved out. We both continued to counsel separately . Our counseling soon ended and that was when my husband and I started comparing notes. Oh my, he was really manipulating us! He was telling us both opposite things! We were shocked! He had told me not to divorce my husband because he couldn't handle it right now. He told my husband to divorce me as soon as possible. He told me I was right, then told my husband HE was right. Those are only 2 of many examples. Tom is not to be trusted. So not counsel separately. It is dangerous.
