Made me feel very uncomfortable

His bedside demeanor is great and all but he does some inappropriate things.

I read the posted reviews and I was scared, but when I actually went to his office, he was more than a Doctor he asked questions and looked at me and was able to give a label to some of the things going on with me that Ive been waiting for 3-5 years. I suffer from PCOS and he diagnosed me with gallstones just by feeling my stomach. I've gotten multiple ultrasounds of my gallbladder within 2-3 years and none of my local Doctors told me I had gallstones. He is the best specialist I've ever been to, and trust me Ive been to many since I was in grade school. Thank you DR. S.J. WINTERS! If you are wanting HRT don't go to Dr. Winters at UofL. He asks inappropriate questions makes invasive and inappropriate contact and will slow your transition to a crawl. He will also demand you dress to meet his expectations of gender presentation before treating you. His bedside manner is demeaning. He is hostile to those with mental illness and will use the "female hysteria" argument of you challenge any of his methods. If you are wanting HRT don't go to Dr. Winters at UofL. Dr Winters has been an excellent Doctor for me. I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of the services he provides.

Doesn't treat diabetics, so not much of an endocrinologist. Wondering what he does treat?

Dr. Winters is a deplorable endocrinologist and in turn, human being. Avoid him.

Dr. Winters is one of only a few endocrinologists in the Louisville area that will treat transgender clients for hormone replacement therapy. However, his actual practice is to attempt to undermine your goals. He accomplishes this by slowing your transition to a crawl. Unwarranted delays, tests that aren't relevant. He convinces you that he's right with information that sounds perfectly plausible to anyone who's not done any research on the topic. When I suggested the protocol that's outlined by "Center of Excellence for Transgender Health" at the University of California, San Francisco, he refused to consider it. He said flat out, "They're wrong." Eventually he will start you on hormones, once you jump through all his hoops. However he's going to start you on the lowest possible dosage. He will refuse to prescribe the other drugs you will need to see the results you're seeking. He will do this for as long as you'll keep coming back. This is not to mention the sexual abuse I suffered at the hands of Dr. Winters. Without any warning and certainly without my consent, he lifted my gown and groped my genitals. He did this bare handed. Additionally, his line of questioning is widely inappropriate. He asked things like "What type of activities did my father and I do together when I was a child?" "Does my family buy into this?" His staff fellow also insinuated that I was not female enough, due to my jeans and t-shirt appearance. She made inquiries as to why I didn't shave my pubic hair and other grooming habits. To sum it up, there are far better doctors in this town. People who treat transgender clients like human beings. With honesty, integrity and respect. That's not what you will get from Dr. Winters.
