Mr. Michael J Chaparro

I'm going to let this account of my experience during my recent check up serve as my review. It's a bit personal, but I want to frame this in a way that allows any potential patients to relate on a human level. I was following up with my neurosurgeon - who is affiliated with Palms West - out in Royal Palm Beach yesterday. It was a final check up after being under his care for almost a year following a spinal injury at work that required surgery. One of his staff took my vitals and when they did my blood pressure reading, the numbers were 161/121. The lady taking the vitals actually told me that was alright. No it isn't. That's hypertension. I walked out of the waiting room and expressed my concern that they weren't acknowledging the high blood pressure and they agreed to retake it. The second reading was 161/117... still hypertension. My complaint is that they blew off this reading. While I understand this is a neurosurgeon and not a cardiovascular specialist, it's still a licensed medical practice and I'm alarmed that staff took my blood pressure, saw a reading that clearly placed me in the range of hypertension and didn't see a need to address it, forcing me to pursue the point. I'm wondering how many patients with no knowledge of blood pressure readings have left that office with similar results, assuming their bp was fine because his staff said nothing. I plan on seeing a primary care physician, but this seems negligent and irresponsible to me. Even a layperson can tell that's not a healthy blood pressure and I would expect to at least have his staff address it. As a surgeon, the care was excellent. But this was an alarming development.

I don’t give him 1 star actually minus 10 for Chaparro. Every one goes to his office need surgery. HE ARRUIN MY WIFE LIFE. 3 people I know same thing. PLEASE AVOID HIM OR HAVE A SECOND OPINION. Is all about the money.

Young girls and women make sure you have someone with you .

Dr. C is an Amazing doctor!! He is very thorough!! He goes over imaging with you and explains and makes sure you understand!!

From the moment I met him I knew Dr. Chaparro was the right neurosurgeon for me. He spent 1.5 hours with me at my first appointment - going over every film and scan in detail so I would know exactly where and what my issues were. I'm now 6 weeks completed from my combined Cervical Anterior/Posterior Surgery and I'm not only pleased with my results but so grateful to Dr. Chaparro for his caring and down-to-earth manner. It meant the world!

From start to finish, my experience with Dr. Chaparro could not have gone smoother. His office staff got my appointment scheduled earlier than expected. Dr. Chaparro reviewed my MRI disc and showed me what needed to be done (2 level ACDF) then Michelle in the front office scheduled my surgery date and explained what I needed to do prior to surgery (covid test, preop, clearance from primary doctor, etc). Everything happened in order and without a hiccup! I had no issues with pain, swallowing or hoarseness post-op. The neck brace was frustrating (of course) but worth it! Now, 4 months later I am pain free, full range of motion and the scar on my neck is only slightly visible. Thank you Dr. Chaparro... and thank you Michelle for treating me so well!

Excellent doctor and surgeon. I highly recommend him. He was awesome.

I’ve been in constant pain for 14 years. I’d rather die than put my life into his hands. Failed from get go + he knew it. After 1 week he wanted nothing more to do with me. 43 days in hospital. Screamed at me when I asked about malpractice ins. Got staff infection of blood. Last year incision reopened. Have strep infection cant get rid of. Screws are loose. Surgery is again suggested but I’d rather die than go through that pain again. Insensitive, uncaring and overcharged me $23k cash. 8 months to get it returned. Had to get bcbs involved. RUN as fast as you can AWAY from him. This statement is 100% accurate with paperwork to back everything up. Good luck.

Our experience with Dr Chaparro and his staff Michelle and Jani made us feel warm, welcomed and more than just a patient. The ladies are so friendly, kind and happy to help. Dr Chaparro spent over an hour with us explaining what has been going on with my 3yo and things finally started to made sense. He even brought out a book with pictures to educate us. Which i really appreciated. The surgery went exactly as he said it would and at 4 weeks post-op we are already seeing improvements. He is a very kind, passionate, confident doctor who knows his sh** I wish we would have found him sooner.

I am finally pain free !! ...Dr. Chaparro is a highly skilled professional surgeon... I have had 3 small "quick orthopedic fixes" in the past, which eventually led to years of pain management. I had got a few different opinions before being referred to Dr. Chaparro from a friend who's daughter had a successful procedure, I am so thankful I followed through. He sat my wife and I down and went over all the options, explained all the good as well as all the recovery, no "sugar coating", made sure we both knew exactly what the plan was. I can honestly say things went easier than I expected. The ladies in the office were wonderful, right mix of professional and friendly. They helped me arrange appointments as well as help with my many questions. I am extremely happy with Dr.Chaparro, his office staff, his surgical team, the hospital staff and the physical therapy teams (in hospital for getting me moving as well as out patient to get me where I am)

I have entrustedDr Chaparro for the past 10+ years. Having had major complications with regards to improper nuerological procedures. Due to his extensive surgical talents, he was able to diagnose the correct condition and thus the proper remedy. I have, and will continue, to have the utmost of confidence in his abilities. He and all in his staff are amazing!

Chaparro, Michael J, MD has been treating my son for over 12 years to include a very difficult brain surgery back in 2008. I drive 190 miles one way every 2 years to see doctor Chaparro so that my son can be seen. I am very pleased with doctor Chaparro, he is the very best neurosurgeon in the state for children and I will continue to travel from Orlando so that Chaparro can see my son.

After years of going from Doc To Doc and getting nowhere for a ton of money, I found Dr. Chaparro. He 1. believed me and 2. fixed it. I had one doc tell me my back pain was from my bra without even looking at a report or the MRI disc. I am getting my legs back after more than ten years of pain. My neck can move more freely after twenty years of pain. I am on my way to living again. baby steps, but I cant wait to do things I have been missing out on for so long. I highly recommend Dr. Chaparro. He is so knowledgeable and takes time to explain it to you. He is in High demand which is why his appointments are about a month out, but its worth it if you can wait. Dr Chaparro has performed multiple surgeries in my family, all with great success, so I had full confidence and peace of mind going into my neck surgery. I had debilitating neck and upper back pain with terrible radiating nerve pain and numbness down my arm. I am happy to report I experienced a perfect result. I've heard so many stories of neck surgeries by others resulting in a worse condition, or not solving the problem...not with Dr. Chaparro! All my neck and nerve pain is gone and I feel better than ever! I am so glad I was fortunate enough to know the right neurosurgeon. You can fully trust what he tells you. I have had back pain going on 5 years now. I have seen multiple doctors multiple neurosurgeons. Dr chaparro spent more time with me gave me a physical examination, among other tests and pinpointed where my actual pain was, and called for a MRI of my thoracic spine. I have been thrown around from Doctor to doctor and have gotten nowhere but after seeing him it was like a breath of fresh air I can't believe how other doctors just don't care about my health like he does. I cannot express the torture I have endured from crock doctors in Florida. Choose wisely and see a real neuro surgeon like dr chaparro, its like a breatg of fresh air for me. I was very satisfied with the way Dr. Chaparro took the time to explain every aspect of my condition so I could make an informed decision. He took the time to explain in detail the procedure and what to expect in recovery. I also like the fact that he is well versed on all the latest technologies. His staff was very supportive and always made me feel comfortable.

I was just release for the hospital after Chiari Surgery. The doctor was great, he check on me and my progress and took time to explain what was going on. I’m a very pleased patient and strongly believe in his assessment and his bedside matters. He spoke Spanish so my mom could understand him. While I’m in pain and still recovery I only have great things to say about my experience

Dr. Chaparro gave me the confidence to have my fourth surgery. I have had three unsuccessful surgeries in the past by different doctors. As I am still in recovery I am grateful for Dr. Chaparro's steady hand that gave me pain relief after eight years of crucial pain. He is caring and thorough. I would recommend him over anyone else. Incredible Dr - a Genius

Dr. Chaparro has given me back my husband again! We consider life “before finding Dr. Chaparro” and “ after finding Dr. Chaparro” If you are hurting and are contemplating this doctor, do not hesitate. His bedside manner may be a bit straight forward and may catch you off guard, but his thorough exam and diagnostic review will be none like you will ever have at any other neurosurgeon. He and his staff are like the old days, you are not a number, they answer their phones and address you by name

This doctor is not Good. He is not insured and has no compassion for his patients . He left me permanately disabled as a result of botched surgery ... I do not recommend him.

Awful experience with Dr Chaparro. He severed my arterary during surgery . It caused cardiac arrest . Kidney failure and my colon to die . I received 33 transfusions . I required 2 additional surgeries . He is an UnInsured Doctor . I do not recommend anything about him. I strongly recommend looking at other doctors. My sons spinal surgery was a success and as an RN, this was the 2nd neurosurgeon’s opinion. You shop for the best, do your research and make the best decision. Highly recommended. HIGHLY Recommended.

I had a motorbike accident 10 yrs ago...broke my neck. Had 2 fusions that didnt work and the prev drs didnt even notice, cuz they didnt look.. Dr. Chaparro; This man is dr house of drs. So knowledgeable! I've been thru 2 other surgeries and 8 years of all sorts of referrals for opinion after opinion. That stopped here with this wonderful dr. In the years of disappointed and lost confidence in Drs in general. My faith has been restored! Thank you so much Dr Chaparro! YOU are the real super hero! A rock star! He’s very professional & I love his jolly character?? I had surgery with him last 2011 and went really well. Even my husband’s colleague had surgery with Dr Chaparro a month after my surgery and hers went well too!!!

Dr Chaparro is very good at explaining what needs to be done but not good in operating room. Fusion of L1 thru S1 complete failure. Entire operation done over by another Dr , I'm now fused from T12 to S1 and moving around with slight pain. Fantastic improvement. About to start golf again. DO NOT USE DrChaparro!!

Dr. Chaparro was the 3rd doctor I consulted & was so glad I found him thru Health Grades. Took the time to review my MRI with me & my wife, thoroughly took the time to explain the procedure and expected outcome. Have been pain free since my L-3 - S-1 Bilateral Lamenectomy/Facetectomy 7 mos. ago, healed as expected & getting around great. He is a first class EXCELLENT surgeon & his staff were first rate in scheduling the preop work. Would recommend him to anyone needing spinal surgery.

Dr Chaparro was the fifth doctor that I had visited for my severe back, the first four we're unable to correctly diagnose my problem.(over 7 months!) Prior to engaging Dr. Chaparro my severe pain was being treated via eight Percocets a day plus a 75 fentanyl patch. Now four months post back surgery I no longer require prescription pain medication and I am learning to walk again! Within 3 weeks Dr. C diagnosed the problem and completed the extensive back surgery .A 1st class surgeon & man.

I've been come in to Dr.Chaparro for about fifteen years. He is one of the most honest DR's I know. I was in such pain fifteen years ago. I couldn't move my neck couldn't sleep the pain was so intense. My whole body was a mess from the spinal injury I had from a car accident. I had about one month before I came to see him .I've had a cervical fusion 14 years ago ,then in 2015 had to have another one ,they don't last a life time! Dr. chaparro has a great bedside manner. He spends time with his patients and makes sure they understand all test results and treatment options. I would recommend him to anyone requiring surgery as they're only option.

Dr. Chaparro takes as much time need it to explain the procedure and details of the surgery. He gives you confidence and understanding, he is honest and very concerned of his patients. I am extremely happy with his care. I pray to God to help me to provide help to my daughter; she needs back surgery and I want Dr. Chaparro to assist her.

Just had a surgery done by Dr. Chaparro and he has been EXCELLENT! I wish I'd have found him YEARS ago. He knew my condition and what needed to be done, CORRECTLY and I couldn't have asked for anything more. Also found out he does the spinal surgery that I think I may need (to be determined after he evaluates),,,,,, he's become my 1 stop shop for surgery! His staff is great also! Dr. Chaparro, has been y doctor since 2009. He has given me my life back. Dr. Chaparro is extremely knowledgeable, direct, sincere, trustworthy and caring. Did I mention a great Doctor?! Great doctor. I met Dr Chaparro, after consulting two other neurosurgeons and after speaking with him, I was sure that I was in very good hands, I was not mistaken. I had two surgeries with him ( cervical and lower back) I went back to work a week later.

Dr. Chaparro is a fantastic doctor, who will spend the time to fully explain the procedure in a way that you can understand. He will fully disclose the risk/reward and in my case was 100% accurate in the outcome of my cervical surgery. Staff is super friendly and I would recommend to anyone that requires any work done on your spine.

I was experiencing significant pain in my neck and even had my left arm going numb on me as well. Dr. Chaparro examined me thoroughly, and performed a four-level neck fusion (acdf) which was a hundred percent successful. The morning after surgery I had absolutely no pain, it has been three years since surgery and I have been pain-free since. I was very very pleased with the job he did. And I would highly recommend him to anyone needing Neurosurgery.

To start i must say the staff was very helpful, returned my messages and makes you feel real comfortable. As far as Dr. goes... Dr. Chapparo diagnosed me with Tethered Cord Syndrome, as well as, a ruptured disk at my C5-C6. I've had 2 separate surgeries for these in the past 2 months and I cannot believe that I could ever live a life without pain. He gave me a life I didn't know was possible. Dr. Chapparo & his staff care beyond their paycheck and have made the process of diagnoses through recovery such an easy process for me not only physically but mentally as well. My only regret is I didn't meet him sooner.

Before seeing Dr. Chaparro, I was in a lot of leg pain and numbness from my tailbone down. Surgery was a must. Dr. Chaparro and his staff were so accommodating and knowledgeable that It made me feel more comfortable about having the surgery done. I had to have L2 thru L5 laminectomy and post lateral fussions. I was back to work in 7 weeks. It's been 4 months and I'm pain free, and feeling great!! Thank you Dr. Chaparro and Staff!!!

Dr. Chaparro is very knowledgable in this field. I had utmost confidence in him from the very beginning. He spent a lot of time diagnosing and explaining clearly what needed to be done to correct my problems. He listened to my questions and answered them to my satisfaction. I had my first neck surgery in April, 2011 and the pain was immediately gone. It was very successful. Then a car accident after that damaged the plate and he had to go back in to secure that plate with another one Feb., 2016

My wife recently had major neck surgery six weeks ago. Dr. Chaparro did an excellent job and my wife is recovering well. Dr. Chaparro went thru the surgery procedure in depth with my wife and myself prior to the surgery. He presented all the options before surgery and explained the problem while looking over the scans. We felt very comfortable with moving forward with the surgery. Everything went to plan as discussed. We were very blessed to have picked Dr. Chaparro to perform this procedure.

I would highly recommend Dr. Chaparro and staff, they were professional and courteous. Dr, Chaparro was informative on what to expect and what needed to change in my life style for a successful operation and recovery. Six weeks later walking with no pain.

Dr. Chaparro was straight to the point after my exam and reviewing my Contrast study. He took the time to answer all of my questions in a manner I understood. Ten days ago I had a diskectomy at L4/L5 and am ready to get back to work...without the pain I had before surgery. His office staff was great taking care of everything necessary to get the ball rolling and scheduling my appointments as quickly as possible.

Dr Chaparro and his entire staff are first rate. I travel over 35 miles to see the doctor and would consider no other physician . He evaluated my problems and fixed them with out injections but with the the proper remedy.He evaluated my problems correctly and FIXED them.

I am so happy to have been referred by my primary Doctor. ALL the staff was amazing. Dr Chaparro is very knowledgeable about my condition with EDS. I had sever pain for over 5 years and had other surgerys Dr Chapparro did surgery on me and i felt immediate relieve . I thank God and Dr. Chaparro for Hope and Pain relieve. Dr; Chaparro had the dedication to explain to me the diagnostic from his view; he showed me pictures from books as exactly appear at my MRI. I realized that he is devoted to his specialization as a neurosurgeon by the way he talked to me and his behavior . I went to visit him , after I had diagnostic from a different neurosurgeon ; that I was supposed to have surgery where I didn't need it. Dr Chaparro did on me a surgery reference his diagnostic.I thank God for bringing me to him.

Extremely knowledgeable and excellent surgeon. Good bedside manner. Takes the time to answer all questions and concerns. Have already recommended him to several friends. Have no fear when Dr. Chaparro is here!
