About Dr. Marcy Janice Abel
Reviews for Dr. Marcy Janice Abel
Dr Marcy Abel is awesome. I went for my yearly check up and didn’t have to fill out a bunch of paperwork. The wait to see her was less than 30 minutes. That includes the waiting area & in the exam room. When she came in she knew my history asked about changes and sent me on my way. I love this this place. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming.

Dr. Abel has been tremendously helpful by truly listening to my problems and offering solutions along the way until all was resolved and complete relief was accomplished. As I age, I will go back to her as there may be new challenges to overcome.

I fell in love with Dr. Abel, even before meeting her in her office for the first time. The office staff was very helpful, friendly and efficient. And then I met Dr. Abel, who was all that and more...compassionate, caring, and smart. I loved her and the whole experience. Would recommend her to all my female friends and have already!

Dr Abel definitely knows her stuff. Staff is friendly also. Would highly recommend
Dr Abel Is always very friendly but also very thorough and seems genuinely interested in helping her patients
I had two surgeries previously by another Urologist & they were a waste of time, but Dr. Abel knew exactly how to fix my issues and was very caring and understanding! I would definitely recommend her to anyone!
Terrible experience from beginning to end. The phones at the desk rang continuously while I was in the waiting room. That should have been my first clue. Very rushed with each appointment. Despite my mixed emotions, I continued with surgery. Same problems existed after surgery, nothing was better. Was told to come in for more appointments, which mean more charges. No answers for why my surgery didn’t work. The final straw was when the billing office called and asked for payment for the balance due. I’m currently paying every month and still peeing on myself, sorry for the extra details but when a surgeon states, “don’t worry, I will fix you” before surgery and after surgery, nothing is better, I’ve become quite bitter. Not to mention the fact that the office gave me the wrong location of the surgery as well as the wrong time. Terrible experience. Terrible experience from beginning to end. Fantastic doctor! Very thorough, professional and excellent bedside manner. I can’t recommend enough.
I have had a great experience with Dr.Scarpero with Female Urology of Nashville. Also her nurse Alexis is so sweet and patient and calls when you need to ask any question or help with anything Melissa. Cobb
Excellent from start to finish. Dr. Abel is very professional and runs an excellent office staff. I highly recommend her.
This was the biggest waste of time and money! Telehealth visit. She recommended medications that were very expensive, she said the pharmacist would work with me on an alternative if it was expensive. The pharmacist says he has to dispense as written. Tried to get them to call me and received no call. I was told by Abel the scheduler would call me to schedule a follow up, never called. Then out of the blue I get a text message that I have an appointment the next day! What a joke of an office! Never again and no I don’t recommend her!

Called for an appt. The 1st question was if I was being referred. This is understandable given insurance constraints that sometimes exist. The 2nd question was what is my insurance. The 3rd question was is my insurance through my work. I was then put on a lengthy hold. At no point did the office staff allow me to say why I needed an appointment or ask me my name. It was clear to me that patient care is not the 1st priority at this office so I’ll be going elsewhere. Called for an appt. The 1st question was if I was being referred. Don't waste your time. Wanted me to be there 30 prior to my appointment time, no problem. Then 45 minutes after my appointment time I was still sitting in the waiting room. No one cared that I had not been called back. I was glibly told there were no rooms available, but they kept taking others back. Never saw the doctor. But if staff is any indication of the doctors attitude it would have just angered me more! Don't waste your time. Wanted me to be there 30 prior to my appointment time, no problem. Dr. Abel surgically went in to replace my battery in my Interstim. When I got home, the device did not work. When I went for my post-op, the Rep had a hard time getting it to turn on & when it did, I told her this one didn’t feel like the last one. I have been back many times and have been charged unknowingly every time I went in to have this fixed and Dr. Abel never took time to really listen and blew me off. Via phone last week Dr. Abel said perhaps I should turn off the device and try Botox because she is the leading Doctor in this procedure in Nashville and it is highly unlikely she made a mistake. I then saw a Device rep last week in Atlanta & they were astounded and said I can be helped & they never charge for reprogramming until after they know the device is working for the patient. I was blown off by Dr. Abel saying no surgery is guaranteed when I know what my device should feel like. She is obviously more about the money these days than helping loyal patients like me. The short version is this: Dr Abel's staff is unprofessional and rude with behavior that could put a patient at risk. I had read this in other reviews and wish I would've taken them into account before scheduling with Dr Abel. Lengthy version below: My mother is a complicated patient. She has active Ulcerative Colitis and Interstitial Cystitis among other comorbidities. She has been very sick with her colitis for the past 9 months, and MAYBE weighs 95 lbs. Mom had been seeing Dr Abel for her bladder problems when she developed a UTI. Dr Abel started her on Macrobid. Being an ulcerative colitis patient, Mom cannot take antibiotics well. The Macrobid had already upset her stomach. The office staff called and told mom that the bacteria (Proteus mirabilis) was resistant to the Macrobid and Dr Abel was sending her in Keflex. I am a pharmacist, and mom relayed this msg to me. She was upset b/c Keflex really upsets her stomach, and she was already nauseated from the Macrobid. She was concerned about her ulcerative colitis flaring up. I told her to call back and ask for an injectable antibiotic, hoping to bypass her GI tract and prevent the nausea. She got the office staff, who treated her like an inconvenience and said "we go by dr's orders, not pharmacist's orders" and then told her that Dr Abel was in surgery and couldn't respond and there were no covering drs available to ask. Mom started to ask when we may hear back, and the staff hung up on her! This was at 2:30 pm on a Friday. I got involved at this point. I first called her GI dr, who confirmed that the injectable antibiotic would be better. I then called Dr Abel's office and asked to speak to a nurse. When the nurse came on the line, she didn't even ask what I needed. She immediately started in a condescending tone, "Okay we know that the Keflex upsets your stomach, but there is nothing we can do about it . Dr Abel is in surgery. You're just gonna have to take it." Because I am in healthcare, I know that there are covering drs when a dr is unavailable. I also know that there are ways to get msgs to a dr. I started to explain to the nurse that this was more than just a case of upset stomach, that my mom had multiple severe health problems and couldn't risk losing any more weight, when someone else interrupted me and said "This is Beth, the office manager. You are trying to force my nurses to call something in that is not approved by Dr Abel." This nurse had handed the phone to the office manager mid-sentence without even telling me. I was being polite (I know being rude helps nothing and will get you nowhere). But even though I was being polite, nobody was even stopping to LISTEN to what I was saying. They just assumed that I was wanting them to change the antibiotic order without talking to the dr. I asked the office manager what mom should do since she can't take the Keflex and they said it would be Monday before Dr Abel could respond. Her response: "Go to a walk-in clinic". I asked her, "Why would we want to do that, when you have her culture and the report of all the antibiotics that the bacteria is susceptible to?" She interrupted me again and said "Well are you going to let me call Dr Abel or are you going to stay on the phone complaining to me? Because I'll let you complain but I won't be able to call the dr in time." Shocked, I hung up and called the surgery center where I was talked to a very nice nurse who listened to me, understood the situation, and urgently started trying to get a msg to Dr Abel. Thanks to the surgery center nurse, Dr Abel herself called mom and told her she would be glad to change the antibiotic to an injectable, for which I am grateful. However, when I told her how her staff acted, she said "They told me you were trying to force them to call in an antibiotic without consulting me." Her staff had LIED to her! When I told her what really happened, she never apologized, and only said "Well, we see a lot of UTIs" (ie: her staff doesn't understand how to deal with a complicated patient like my mom) Needless to say, Mom is swapping drs. I wish every medical practice could be this empowering and attentive.
Taken back on time. No issues. I believe doctor was delayed in surgery which sometimes can’t be helped. I’m responding to the latest complaint. Been here several times and have never had an issue
Dr. Abel was very warm welcoming and made my daughter feel as though she were the only patient this morning. My daughter came in for her post-op review and Dr. Abel could not have been anymore professional, concise, and made my daughter feel comfortable in her office visit.
Excellent! I trust her and her staff to give me the best care that is possible.

Dr. Abel put me at ease and was very professional. She answered all of my questions, and was there when I needed her. I recommend her 100 percent.
Dr. Abel is fantastic! Gets right to the heart of the issues and takes action. I have the upmost respect for her medical knowledge. She is straightforward, caring, dedicated. I highly recommend this outstanding doctor.
Dr. Abel is genuinely concerned for her patients' well-being and considers all treatment options together with patients.
excellent care, bedside manner and time spent with me
I went to Dr. Abel for frequent UTI's. She was great, explained everything excellently and ordered tests, the last being a cystoscopy procedure. She was professional and personable. I got in and out of her office expediently. I will definitely continue to be her patient as needed.
Took the time to address all my concerns. Never made me feel she was in a hurry or my questions were stupid.
Dr. Abel’s office fit me in quickly for a last minute appointment, and I appreciated that. Her nurse was also very personable and helpful. Unfortunately, Dr. Abel herself seemed very rushed. She did point me in the right direction as far as what tests needed to be done to confirm my condition, but I felt that she didn’t take adequate time to explain what to expect before she quickly hurried off to the next patient. Then, the office staff scheduled me for the wrong procedure, which I didn't discover until the day of. When I called Dr. Abel’s office, they didn’t even offer an apology, but only some half-hearted attempts at rescheduling. The worst part of it all was that after the test was completed, Dr. Abel never got back to me with the results, even though my husband and I called and left several messages. We had to pick up the procedure report ourselves and switch to another urologist. We were not impressed with the way Dr. Abel’s office operates, and will definitely not be back.
I wanted to let everyone know about the horrible experience my mother had with this doctor. My mother’s name is Nahed Wasef, and this is what happened from her perspective. “I got an infection in my kidney 3 times (in one year) and I had a burning feeling in the lower part of my body. I was treated 2 times, but when my family doctor saw that it kept coming back, he sent me to a specialist, Marcy Abel. She had me do an ultrasound and then after that she had me do a CT scan. After I did the CT scan (at a hospital of course), she told me I had to do an endoscopy in her office. After I did the endoscopy, she said that I had a kidney stone and I needed to have surgery. I asked her if there was another option (other than surgery). She told me that she doesn’t like doing anything else other than getting the stone herself and taking it out. A couple days later, I went to the hospital to have surgery. When I got there, I paid the cost for the surgery. Before I went into the surgery room, she came up to me and I told her that after she was finished, I wanted to see the stone (to make sure there was actually a stone there because I didn’t trust her)( I never felt pain, I only had a burning feeling). She told me that it was illegal, and that she’s supposed to take it to the lab. I told her okay, but i wanted to see it before she took it to the lab. She said what if it breaks, I said then take a picture of it. I did the surgery. After I woke up, I asked the nurse where the stone was, and she said that I didn’t have a stone (there wasn’t anything). Marcy talked to my husband and said that (talking about me) she doesn’t have any stones, she has an inflammation. She also said that she was sorry. She said i was supposed to see her again after 3 months. My husband asked her to send the surgery report by mail, and she said that she will but she never did. We called the office several times and left messages, but no one ever responded or sent anything. They only sent us the bills that we had to pay, that’s all. I went to the hospital and got the report myself. Until now, I still have that burning feeling. Today, I went to my family doctor, and I did a urine test. The result said that I had an infection AND bacteria. Before going to Marcy Abel, I only had an infection. Now, I have an infection and bacteria. She only cares about the money not the patient. I was with her for 2 months doing all those x-rays and doing surgery and the result of all of that is me still having an infection and getting bacteria. I wish I never met her. She is the absolute worst doctor I’ve ever met in my entire life!” I wanted to let everyone know about the horrible experience my mother had with this doctor. Dr. Abel treated me with respect. I REALLY like Dr. Adel and I trust her completely. Thank you Dr. Abel and God Bless You!!!!
First seen her when she was affiliated with Urology Associates many years ago. Wonderful doctor and thorough.
We had an AMAZING experience with Dr. Abel and I cannot say enough good things about her and her staff at Female Urology of Nashville. My mother has been a patient of Dr. Abel’s for several years now and we’ve had nothing but the best experience possible. If you’re looking for a qualified and competent Urologist with exceptional bedside manner, look no further! Dr. Abel was able to diagnose my mother with a difficult urological condition, perform multiple surgeries, and follow her over time. Dr. Abel was the nicest doctor I have ever seen. Dr Abel made me feel comfortable knowing we have a plan to work towards a solution. The staff was friendly and helpful to arrange my appointments. I just recently moved to Nashville and feel so fortunate to have found such a nice clinic.
I’m a retired nurse and have living with a very common urological issue for years. My primary doctor sent me to her. She tested my bladder and explained the issues with my bladder very well and offered me several options to correct my issues giving me %’s of how much they are affective. I would recommend her to any of my friends and several have made appointments.
Made my whole procedure as easy as could be expected

I am a retired RN so I am very picky about who my doctors are. Dr Abel was wonderful! She is very knowledgeable and friendly. She assessed my condition and discussed the recommended treatment and surgery. The surgery was performed exactly as she described. And the outcome was excellent! No complications and no complaints! I highly recommend her if you’re in need of a female urology expert!

We travel from a small town in Western Kentucky to see Dr. Abel. I use the term ”we” because she not only provides care for me, she provides care to my family as a whole. I am retired from the healthcare profession and have worked with a multitude of outstanding physicians across the East Cost and Mid-West, I honestly say she is by far the most outstanding, as a clinician and as my personal physician. Our family made a joint decision to follow with Dr. Abel wherever she chose to practice.
