I was horseback riding in Arizona on vacation and fell and dislocated & broke my finger. Even though that doesn't seem like a big deal- I really need my hand as a dentist. I was in the middle of nowhere and needed help! I was not a patient of Dr Schwenderman's but he took the time to help me out over the phone and guided me towards the right help!! In late 2000 my left forearm was shattered in an automobile accident near Youngstown. It had to be almost completely rebuilt using permanent pins. Traveling through Youngstown and not being familiar with the hospitals there, I told the paramedics to take me to the closest one when they asked where I wanted to go. Fortunately, the hospital I wound up at was one where Dr. Schwendeman, who it turned out was the only surgeon between Cleveland and Pittsburgh qualified to perform this serious surgery, had privileges. Even though the break in my forearm was rated by another surgeon who eventually saw the x-rays as an 8 on a scale of 10, the status of my arm 16 years later is better than even Dr. Schwendeman's most optimistic outcomes . I have never developed arthritis as he thought I might, and my arm is better than the 90% recovery he considered to be the potential maximum. Most days I forget I even had an operation on my forearm. I have virtually no pain, and my freedom of movement is virtually identical to that of my "good" arm, which actually causes me much more pain and discomfort than my "bad" one these days. Anyone with a serious orthopedic injury who winds up as a patient of Dr. Schwendeman is getting the best there is. Period. I had a great appointment with Dr. Scwendeman. I came in because I had a Ganglion cyst on my wrist that needed drained. I didn't know what to expect, but he walked me through everything, educated me on my wrist, my bones, and the cyst itself, what to expect going forward. He was friendly, personable, and I left feeling good about everything. The staff was very friendly and I was pleasantly surprised with my visit today. Wish there were more doctors like Schwendeman and the staff at Young. Ortho.
