Several days after abdomen and appendix surgery, I developed a rash, an increasingly worsening sore throat and a low grade fever. I contacted our surgeon's office and they suggested I visit my PCP. I had the surgery in Baltimore and live on the Eastern Shore, so it's obviously more convenient to visit our local PCP. I called and Dr. Tate's schedule was full for the day. He did however offer to have a nurse swab for a throat culture. That was only part of my concern. I had my throat culture performed at Dr. Tate's office but he would not see me. I couldn't believe they were going to let me leave without Dr. Tate's evaluation of the bad rash that developed. Reluctant to leave, I was told I could wait and he'll see me when he could. I was then offered to see a P.A. but really preferred Dr. Tate's evaluation. I was told by the front desk, he can't see me. This was less than five minutes after I was told he could!!! It felt like I was in the Twilight Zone! When I arrived home, I wrote a scathing message (no cursing or name calling) to Dr. Tate about my experience and treatment, or lack of, through my portal. With that, he released me from his care…I was cancelled as his patient!!!! Is this the manner in which a patient should be treated? He stated that my condition was not in need of emergency care, although he did not see me. He then called me a liar, stating my claims of what occurred were not true. This guy is not only pompous but disgraceful to making accusations when he wasn’t present. I realize doctors are difficult to find on the Eastern Shore and I guess they realize that point. I'd much rather cross the bridge and have a great doctor who cares rather than a pencil pushing doctor who has no empathy towards his patients. I would not recommend Dr. Tate at all.
