Dr Skellenger is an incredible dentist i’ve been with him for many years now the staff is always helpful and amazing they always remember me when I come in I love this dentist office

Been going here for a couple years now. I got no complaints, or ideas to improve the great care I get here.

Doesn’t communicate Hard of hearing Fails to anesthetize Traumatic

Giving this place 1 star is actually too much. Poor communication skills ALL around. WORST dentist experience I’ve had ever. Got my tooth pulled by doctor Skellenger on Monday December 21st. No one in the office is friendly, I was shaking uncontrollably and scared they did nothing to reinsure me, doctor Skellenger YELLED at me, yes yelled at me, while laying in his chair bc I could not hold still. I was completely full of sweat to the point the assistant was wiping my forehead off and hyperventilating. He told me many times during the procedure he was going to just “stop” bc I couldn’t hold still. I kept saying OVER AND OVER it hurt and he just said it was “pressure”, even though after leaving his office I was in excruciating pain within 10 minutes of getting home. I was NOT given an antibiotic by him or any pain relieving medication. I am on birth control and upon doing my own research you can get dry socket easier when you take oral contraceptives(especially high in estrogen like mine). THEY DIDNT EVEN ASK ME ABOUT MY BIRTH CONTROL or any other medications for that matter. So today December 24th, I called into their office bc I am 110% sure I have a dry socket, which they did NOT educate me on at all. I did not know I was at higher risk of getting dry socket due to my birth control and the trauma from the tooth removal. It was not a smooth process and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Doctor Skellenger called in a new antibiotic and Tylenol 3’s for my pain. I will NEVER let him touch me ever again. I will NEVER set foot back into his office. He should of done something MORE than just Tylenol 3’s after such a traumatic experience..... they wanted me to come in today to get gel put on my infected area and I will NEVER NEVER NEVER let him touch me AGAIN.!!!!!! I am basing my review of 1 star based on their performing practice on a family friend of ours who was in his care. When working with veterans with PTSD you need to not only take in the consideration for their mental comfort but physical as well for they go hand in hand. During their visit their needs and concerns were not properly met from the lack of listening (probably due to old age? Or the lack of caring) The VA sends our vets to this dentist because his practice for them is pretty cheap but the service received was felt to be outdated. The dentist has a certificate from the 70’s on display but updated practice is unknown and is felt that may be part of the problem. The anesthesia used during the appointment was inefficient and when they tried to voice concerns their needs were not met to help make them more comfortable which caused a considerable amount of pain and discomfort during the procedure which then carried into the after care still giving them no comfort resulting in a botched outcome. They also showed poor communication skills in describing needed care and information about dental care that was being received. It is strongly advised you seek another dentist for not only your mental comfort but long term health for your teeth as well. My first visit to this Dental Office. Very pleased from arrival for appointment to the end of visit for cleaning & Dental check.. Thank You Dr Skellenger & great Staff.

I have been visiting Dr. Skellenger for over 25 years. He has treated my issues with the utmost care and consideration, kept me informed of options, and has performed all procedures from small fillings to crowns in a most professional manner. I used to fall asleep at the dentist before I went here. This guy does not know how to use anesthesia. This guy does not communicate properly because he cannot hear properly because he is old as dirt. Has the dental certificate from the 70s on the wall. The VA sends veterans here because he is dirt cheap. This man will traumatize you while he works on more than one patient at a time. This man will botch your dental procedures and not listen to how much pain you are in. Beware of this mans antiquated practice. You will be in the worst pain of your life while he is out fishing

Dr. Skellenger's office worked me in, in an emergency to replace a crown that had popped off as we were traveling through the area. Staff was nice, Dr. Skellenger was professional and quick. My fees were very reasonable for the work he performed. I would highly recommend him for dental assistance if you are in the Gladstone, Escanaba, Rapid River, area.
