Dr. Johanna Suzanne Archer

I had this doctor for my egg retrieval in IVF. I was her only procedure that day and she was still running late. She had the wrong procedure written on the consent form. She retrieved less than 40% of the expected eggs and when I woke up from anesthesia, she told me that she was disappointed in the poor outcome and was unsure if she did something wrong. She shrugged her shoulders, uttered "sorry", and walked away. When she is not in procedures, she has her fellows do all of her monitoring- she will let patients wait a long time just to have the fellows see the patients so she doesn't have to. All of this doctor's good reviews are from her time in Kentucky, but now that she in at Shady Grove in Norfolk, she seems lazy and uncaring.

DO NOT trust her! She is incompetent and indifferent! PLEASE trust me! Not only does she show up for her early appointments late, disheveled, and not knowing the basics of your situation, but she also took us off of progesterone leading into a three day weekend with the lab closed, before finishing the 10th week. That should tell you everything you need to know about her. Find ANYBODY else. Please! And she could sue for slander, if this weren’t 100% true. I would never post otherwise. There’s no words for the difference between her and the REAL fertility doctor that gave us our daughter. And this is not anger at us not being successful. We were both in our 40’s and knew the stats. At the very least, double-check EVERYTHING she says. But I recommend leaving her to animal husbandry. Not as sad when she jacks it up. And I really hope whatever hospital she’s trying to get a job at next reads these. She should not have a medical license. She’s a veterinarian that learned some animal husbandry and focused it on humans. But cares as much as she would a kitten or a calf. Not for your child. And I hope you read this, Johanna. You’ve earned no elevated title from me

Compassionate, professional, and caring. Makes her own phone calls, very experienced. She got us pregnant when no one else could.

I love Dr.Archer and her work. She has helped me in many ways. Although, today I called to follow up with her and spoke with the office manager. The office manager was very rude in her tone of voice, and kept cutting me off. She told me she could not locate my file and barley answered any of my question. I highly recommend that she is replaced as this is suppose to be a caring field of business and she is not sympathetic. Many of the patients here are going through situations in life and having to speak with a mean woman like her does not ease the situation at all. My experience with Dr. Archer and the nurses have been outstanding, although this office manager was a huge disappointment for me today. I pray for her and a change of attitude. Dr.Archer changed my life. I’ve never had a doctor advocate for me the way she has. She never once pressured me to do any procedures I couldn’t afford. She explained things where I could understand. She ran every test we could think of to diagnose my secondary infertility. She has gone over and beyond on more than one occasion to help me. When one reputable surgeon told her nothing was there to fix she got me a second opinion without me even having to ask. That second surgery repaired my uterus and I’m now pregnant! Everytime I visited her office or had surgery/ procedures with Dr Archer she always explained everything so clearly and professionally. I feel like I completely understand everything I'm being told. I have had the best experience I could ask for. Her receptionist is timely with calling back and getting all information you ask for. She is very sweet. Unfortunately we did not have a positive experience with Dr. Archer. She had the wrong patient chart on two separate occasions, information given from the doctor and receptionist were inconsistent, and Dr. Archer flat out told us we were lying when we informed her our donor had called and left messages to set up an appointment that were not returned. We were also ovulating the day after thanksgiving, called the on call number the day we found out, and our call was not returned until the next morning and we were given a 3 hour window of availability (9-12) that we were unable to meet due to travel time, so had to skip the opportunity for insemination altogether that month. Dr. Archer was rude and unprofessional over the phone, and from our experience, the practice was unorganized and disheveled from the beginning. Dr.Archer is such a caring Doctor. The only office you walk in and you don’t wait hours to see the Dr. She gives you one on one time and answers all your questions. Her receptionist is the sweetest always on top of things. I had several people tell me she is he BEST and referred me to her. I’m so glad I listened to them. Dr.Archer is an excellent doctor. She is extremely knowledgeable and educates her patients about their issues and treatment options. Her diagnosis style is commendable. She's very patient and compassionate. She makes sure that no stone is unturned. Her staff are very friendly and prompt in responding to calls and follow ups. Highly recommend!

Dr. Archer was not helpful at all. I did not feel like anyone at her office actually cared about my infertility issues. She put me through 7 IUIs that all failed and I have now learned that we should have moved onto better options much sooner. All she did for me was repeat a procedure that didn't work over and over again. I wasted a lot of time and money. Also I just got another bill from her office more than 2 years after my last appointment. I do not recommend going to her at all.

She is so caring and knowledgeable, making sure to cover everything and get you the treatment you need pronto! Like most doctors and this is not a negative thing at all, that she doesn't believe there's enough sound research on herbs so if you're trying those, you're really on your own and just be careful they don't contain Hormones. Great experience and laid back office, I felt like a person who they really cared about.

Dr Archer is amazing. For years my husband and I carried around the burden of infertility and not having a diagnosis. Happy to say years later I found Dr Archer and she has put me on the right track and a diagnosis to go with all of our issues. She is down to earth and takes time to get you to understand what is going on, she brought out a picture of the human body and mapped up what was going on. Highly recommend this lady!
