I’ve been very satisfied with Dr. Smith and his staff.

Doctor Smith explained condition and treatments available. Ended up having knee surgery and the procedure went very well. Definitely recommend and would go back.

Went to Dr Smith about shoulder which he repaired 6 years ago; he xrayed , diagnosed , administered cortisone and sent me for physical therapy . He is so fast and so thorough , answering all questions as he goes - it was as good as a Physician visit can get.

Dr. Smith is by far one of my favorite doctors I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He is kind, empathetic, genuine, and has a sincere desire to help those improve. He cares about the best possible outcome for the patient and asks for your input and what you feel comfortable with also, making you feel empowered, while also being able to communicate in his expertise what is best. I would never want anyone but Dr. Smith to operate on my knees, and I would recommend him to anyone no questions asked!

He explained to me very well what I had going on with my shoulder and what my options of treatment were. But he didn’t let me ask a bunch of questions. Felt the end of my appointment was rushed.

First visit good but this last visit felt very rushed

The appointment was as perfect as can be experienced with triage, X-rays, and Dr Smith, all staff handling with professionalism in a very friendly manner. His examination was thorough and the outcome to do surgery, a right knee replacement was scheduled. He gave me cortisone in my left knee and the shot was smooth and painless. I highly recommend.

I saw Dr. Smith after a fall and subsequent MRI. I had a full hamstring tear from my pelvic bone. I explained I had been getting better everyday, though still in pain. Dr. Smith said I needed surgery immediately or my injury would not heal properly. I asked if I could postpone it for a bit to get some things in order, as I care for my elderly mother. He told me I could not and scheduled me for six days later. I was caught off guard with this and asked him if we could contact him before the surgery because I knew once I left, I would have a lot of questions. He said I could call but he would be able to answer anything the day of surgery before I went in. I left the office and did have more questions in the following days. I called several times and left messages with his assistant and did not hear back. The day before I was due for surgery, I got in to see another surgeon for a second opinion. This doctor explained how dangerous this surgery is and how grueling the recovery is. He did not recommend surgery at all due to the fact I was improving daily. A third opinion backed up the second opinion. What was the most shocking was when I got the records from Dr. Smith’s office visit, it was full of blatant lies. Dr. Smith said he explained the dangers of possibly damaging the sciatic nerve during surgery. The sciatic nerve was never mentioned. Dr. Smith said he had a lengthy discussion with me about the dangers and the seriousness of this surgery and I chose to go ahead and have the surgery. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Dr. Smith told me he was the only Doctor in Louisville who performs this surgery, due to how rare this injury is. I am appalled at the blatant non truths this Doctor put in his notes. After seeing two other wonderful Doctors, I am on the road to recovery. Doctor Smith was using my injury to put another complex surgery on his resume at my expense. The recovery time for this surgery is 6-8 intense months. I am posting this only to warn others who might encounter him. He is extremely quick to operate, even if you might not need it. After talking to people along the way, they say he is known for this. I was very trusting of doctors and rarely looked for second opinions. Thank God I did this time.

Dr. Smith diagnosed my problem quickly and offered an appropriate treatment program that has led to my quick recovery. The office was very efficient and professional. Very very satisfied! Dr. Smith has a great bedside manner that made me comfortable and optimistic that I would recover.

Very good at what he does

Highest level of confidence in advice and treatment by Dr. James Smith. I had total shoulder replacement on October 6, 2020 and played 9 holes two days in a row 2 weeks after surgery. The second round was a mistake. I should’ve waited. Night of surgery I exercised my shoulder while using ice all through the night with very little sleep. used plenty of pain med and I had no pain throughout the entire process. Perfect results. My wife has had knee replacement surgery and his Cortizone shots prior are the easiest and friendliest she has ever experienced.

Dr. Smith repaired a torn tendon in my elbow 5 years ago and it completely healed without complications. Most recently he repaired my massive rotator cuff tear. I’m 6 months out and have full range of motion and strength is coming back. Highly recommend him!

Dr Smith is a very competent surgeon. He performed rotator cuff repair on both my shoulders- one with a “massive” tear. Both of my surgeries were very successful. He has a great bedside manner and I have always felt like I was in the “best of “hands”. You cannot go wrong with him.

So far, I am totally impressed with Dr. Smith! He is treating me for rotary cuff problems. During the initial consultation, he was very personable, respectful and professional! He had already examined my case before he entered the room. He asked me some questions and then broke down the answers, in layman's terms, and told me exactly what was going on with my shoulder. I feel totally at ease with his prognosis and I am looking forward to the surgery!

Dr Smith is the BEST!! You never have to wait long to see him!! He credits his staff, but most orthopedic Drs are notoriously late!! Dr Smith is thorough in his examination and listens to his patients!! I’m not ready for shoulder surgery yet, but have all the confidence that he will be the BEST choice when I’m ready!!

Seeing him on recommendation of others who had experience with Dr. Smith and on my experience with Louisville Orthopaedic Clinic. I anticipate no problems.

I thought Dr. Smith was great! I came in for a second opinion. I really liked the first physician I saw but wanted to be sure that surgery was the right option for me. Dr. Smith saw me on time and put me at ease about the surgery and I did not feel rushed like I did with the first orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Smith was very personable and I liked his experience with treating a large amount of athletes.
