Dr.McDowell is a great doctor with a beautiful personality. It’s a pleasure to be in his company. He takes the time to explain your situation very well. Extremely knowledgeable about his job. You won’t regret, choosing him if you need his help.

Dr. McDowell is great. Very easy to talk to and he makes things very understandable for his patients. He makes you feel very comfortable and confident that you all will get through the situation at hand together. He sees everything through until its over. Tech staff is amazing and friendly as well.

As always my experience was great. The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming. Amy, my dietitian was very understanding and informative. Dr. Mc Dowell the great doctor in the world!!!!. The young lady Jackie that drew my blood is one of my favorite people now. It is hard to draw my blood, she did it with one try. Always love you girl.

Had my gallbladder removed and Dr.McDowell did an amazing job and now I don’t have any more pain. Thank you so much :)

Dr McDowell is the best. I absolutely love this man. He just makes you feel good about what he’s doing. I did have a lapband in 2009 but in 2022 I had to have it removed. Anything else has to be done I will go to him. I love you Dr McDowell.

Not only will Dr McDowell explain everything, he also draws great visuals!

The staff was very friendly and Dr McDowell was very helpful on exploring my procedure to me. That gave me some peace on having my surgery.

I had a great experience with Dr. McDowell! He is extremely knowledgeable and efficient; as well as kind and caring. I definitely recommend him!

Dr McDowell is very compassionate and cares about his patients. For the most part the staff is kind and understanding however, there are some people who answer the phone that are rude and disrespectful. They will not allow you to explain your situation, you get a brief instruction of what to do and the call is terminated. Not even an offer to transfer the call!! I find it very frustrating, I left a message, the automated system said if you call before 4pm you will get a call back the same day. It’s been more than 24 hours and I haven’t received a response!! This is the 2nd visit I have had in a very very long time because of insurance issues. I saw the nurse practitioner the first time and was blown away by her knowledge and confidence she portrayed during my visit. That alone puts a patient at ease. My second visit was with Dr. McDowell. I have to say that I absolutely loved him! I felt like I had known him forever. I was in and out of the office within minutes of my scheduled appt time. Who doesn’t love that?! The staff were so great and encouraging. As I was leaving Aubrey(the receptionist) was encouraging and congratulating a patient that I assumed was starting her journey with weight loss. Dr McDowell has always been kind and attentive since I met him last year working on call for my surgeon. He gave me peace and belief that he would do his very best to make me better. I am so glad that I chose Dr. McDowell to be my surgeon. What I felt would be a hard surgery for me has been the complete opposite. I had almost no pain and a super quick recovery. I am shocked at how great I feel. He entire office was polite and professional. All questions were answered at the time of the appointment. They made additional appointments for me with other doctors quickly and within my scheduling constraints. I would recommend this office.

Wonderful doctor with great office staff. He has operated on me and did bypass surgery for my daughter. I would highly recommend him. Great bedside and office manor! Really cares about his patients.

Dr McDowell was very welcoming when he came to the examination room. He put me at ease immediately. He explained symptoms and ed my questions so that I could understand. My visit was very good!!!

This Dr doesn’t even deserve one star. My mom had gastric bypass in February. She went home the next day & all was well. The next day (2days post op) she was having severe pain & trouble breathing. She called an ambulance & they took her to the nearest ER which was Stonecrest in Smyrna. They ruled out a blood clot & from the CT results the ER Dr determined she had an abscess in her abdomen. After 10 hours there she was transferred to St Thomas Midtown (her insurance requires her to use St Thomas facilities). Dr McDowell refused to believe she had an abscess & kept saying you can’t get one just two days after surgery. For 48 hours my mom was sick as a dog. Ran a fever up to 104, blood pressure was extremely low, heart rate was really high. Finally after her suffering for 48 hours he ordered a CT scan and guess what? It was an abscess. Then she was started back on antibiotics, after being transferred to the ICU. Dr McDowell kept telling her she had a GI bug & needed to get up walking. After 5 or 6 days she went home. A couple weeks later she saw him for follow up & she told him something didn’t feel right & she didn’t think she was ready to go back to work. He insisted she was ready. The following Monday she went back to work. On Wednesday she didn’t feel good at all, got home from work and she had a fever. The next morning she was told to go to St Thomas Midtown ER. She was admitted, once again, because the infection wasn’t gone. He had sent her home with Augmintin (sp?) After 5 nights in the hospital she went home and all has been fine since. Thank God Dr Lynch was the one to care for her the second go round. Needless to say she will never see Dr McDowell again & I will NEVER recommend him to anyone. Dr. McDowell saved my life. Luckily he was “on-call“ when I needed emergency surgery on a weekend. He has a very good personality and was very comforting to my wife.

This doctor and his staff was very irresponsible with my sister in laws surgery and it killed her. She was only 33 years old and had a beautiful baby boy that will never be able to see his mother again. Their negligence and failure to check on their patients post surgery is very unprofessional. Had gastric bypass. Surgery went well and I was discharged Day after surgery. The following morning, I had severe pain and shortness of breath. I called an ambulance. Explained to EMT that my insurance requires me to go to St Thomas. He said they were concerned I may have blood clot in lung and were required to take me to nearest hospital since that is life threatening. PE was ruled out by CT scan, but I had a big abscess in my abdomen. Once stabilized, I was transferred to St Thomas. Dr McDowell told me I did not have an abscess 2 days after surgery and I needed to get up and walk. I continued to worsen before he finally restarted the antibiotics. I now have a $23,000 bill for the out of network hospital and he has refused to write a letter to my ins. co. saying I needed to have been taken to closest hospital. I am furious with him for the way he treated me during all this. Had to be readmitted a second time too. Had gastric bypass. Surgery went well and I was discharged Day after surgery. I met with the doc for a surgery consult. The staff was very professional. I didn’t have to wait long, and Dr. McDowell had a good bedside manner and was very personable. He took the time to explain the issues, his surgical approach, and what I could expect post surgery. Based on my initial experience, I was satisfied. Update: Contacted the office to get addition information for insurance purposes, and the nurse for the 3 doctor’s acted as if I was bothering her with questions that I needed answered for insurance purposes.
