Mr. Edward M Friedler

I have been a patient of Dr. Friedler for many years. He is an excellent and practical physician with great bed side manner. Dr. Friedler has been there either in office, by phone, or email for those rare times I needed to reach out for emergency needs. I highly recommend!

I have been lucky enough to have seen Dr Edward Friedler going on 29 or 30 years now. The practice he runs, Annandale Family Medicine, and all the Doctors and Nurse Practitioners are all top notch professional’s. He has been a Washingtonian ‘Too Doctor’ too many times to count as well as many of his partners. I can say without a doubt he has saved my life because he saw me for a problem and sent me to Fairfax Hospital right away 2 times. I had gotten the West Nile Virus which is a brain infection brought on by a Mosquito bite. Doctors at Fairfax Hospital said there is a good chance I will get an auto immune disease as my immune system took a hit as the west Nile virus had left me paralyzed and legally blind. This was in 1999 the first year it invaded the US from New York City. The CDC checked me over and tested me for everything, with nothing coming back. They say you don’t go from unloading a van to being paralyzed from the waist down in 2 1/2 hours. And they could not tell me if I would walk again. But luckily after a year I was better. 2-1/2 later I did get an auto immune disorder. Not multiple sclerosis as they said most people get. I wish I got that. I got an autoimmune disease where my immune system thinks my body is attacking itself and then goes about trying to kill what is wrong. But it actually will attack my body and do damage. When I go in to see Dr. Friedler complaining of a new symptom he will immediately send me to the best doctor, if he can’t treat me himself, if he thinks that my problems are related to an actual illness or my body attacking me. He has been able to analyze my symptoms and treat them or get me to the right place before things go really wrong. I learned the hard way by ignoring symptoms and expecting that things would just get better and would end up in the hospital nearly dying. So now if I have something that just doesn’t seem right, I see Dr. Friedler and I have seen many of the other doctors and they know my case history and always make sure I get the best treatment I don’t know how I can’t say it any other way then Dr. Friedler is more knowledgeable than some specialists I have gone to who only see the problem after I tell them what Dr. Friedler thinks I may be having an issue with this or that. It is also reassuring to see a specialist who says he knows or has heard of Dr Friedler. I am a medical disaster case. I have recommended many people to him over the years and have actually thanked me for giving him the referral. Very often when I get my blood work done, I will always get the results back alone times the next day via Privia. In the last seven years. My father asked me to move back in and help take care of my mom as she had a year or two to live. My dad however bicycled 6000 miles a year and was in great shape. But my mom had congestive heart failure and couldn’t make it up and down the stairs and even with my problems I still was 6’4” and strong. I did not take the option to go on disability 20 years ago and I still work today. Unfortunately two years after I moved in and it wasn’t my mom that died it was my father. And a couple weeks later my mom fell and ended up in the hospital with sepsis from a bad gallbladder which was removed on with a kidney which was all destroyed from a tumor. After this episode I insisted she go to Dr. Friedler who looked at the medication she was taking and said that to medications her other doctor we’re giving her or the wrong kind and should never be taken together and he completely readjusted all her medications and levels and for two years my mom was better. She still had a heart condition, it was managed so much better that she had much more energy and became more independent. Slowly she lost her breath. And then went downhill quickly getting diagnosed with at least 13 tumors and so much cancer. They said her one remaining kidney was going to fail first. Even after this diagnosis. I have found him to be a very good listener and genuinely interested in me as a person. I like being treated as a person rather than simply another patient. He always provides me with a personalized assessment based on what he knows about me and does not simply write out a prescription for a medication. He gives me good advice on what I myself can do as I am never eager to rely very much on medications. He is an intelligent and kind man with a wonderful sense of humor.

I dread the day when Dr. Friedler retires. He is irreplaceable!!

I have been going to this family practice group for many years. They see you quickly, are open on Saturdays and have knowledgeable medical staff to treat your problems. I've seen some of the reviews saying the front desk staff is rude - I haven't found any of them to be rude, sometimes they can be a bit short but they have always answered my questions and helped me understand the answer/options. As part of the Privia Group they have access to other specialists as well. I recommend this doctor and the office overall. I have been going to this family practice group for many years. very easy to work with

I've been going to this practice for 8+ years now, and the service has been consistently excellent. I've had multiple doctors look after my care and I couldn't be happier with patience and attention shown.

I'm really happy working with Edward Friedler over the past few years. He helped spot my high blood pressure and diabetes, and the statin im on has greatly improved my health. I'm very happy with him.

Dr. Friedler provides the most progressive care available. As a Privia managed practice, he provides in person, cell phone messaging and email services. He is excellent at treating health issues related to my COPD/immune disorder/inflammation issues. Dr. Friedler, his associates, and his staff are all excellent. I recommend him and his office without reservation. My family has been seeing Dr. Friedler for about twenty years! They have always found someone who can see us for an emergency, and their communication is excellent.

I haven't using them for so many years but after they got Privia Medical Group 2 years ago has been TERRIBLE, last check up I never got my results back or a letter or a call from doctor. So sad to see how this office just going DOWN and DOWN, terrible service, bills every month where, no right codes to summit a claim to the health insurance. I will NOT recommend it. I've been a patient since 2003 and am satisfied with the practice overall. The practice has been overhauled in the past 5 years, and improvements in efficiency, communications, automated processes, records management, insurance (including Rx) coordination have been overall positively impacting the quality of service. Staff retention has been good (nice for continuity) and Dr. Friedler has been able to attract competent backup professionals in Dr. Quintos-Gomez and Carmen Ayala. Yes, the practice is family medicine but Edward Friedler is an outstanding diagnostician capable of evaluating obscure complaints and referring issues of import to a rather comprehensive toolbox of specialists in the metro area. Friedler has an approach to health risk management and "do no harm" that I can appreciate, and is careful and intensely methodical in his questioning and conclusions. Some other reviewers have referenced back office problems and billing/Rx issues. All I can say is that I have seen poor performance in the past (both with professional and administrative staff) and these don't last long in this practice. I've always found this practice to be accommodating, helpful, courteous, and friendly to visit. I just wish they were closer to were I live, but I'm glad they are close to Fairfax Inova and to the plethora of specialists who provide followup or diagnostic care. I have been there 3 times since I moved into the neighborhood. They have been very kind and easy to work with. Last week I was taken in last minute and stepped right in to my appointment. They're great.
