Called for appointment and was instructed to fill out a long questionnaire about myself to be assessed by Dr. Songer. I completed and submitted the document that very day. They said they would let me know if he would see me as a new patient. After two weeks with no response, I called office to check and was told they would let me know. That was August 2023. It's now October 2024 and -in all that time- they never responded back to me. Very unprofessional if not unethical. Make a list of other available professionals because you're going to need it.

I was a patient of Dr Songer for 3 years. I was being seen for Major Depression Disorder, Anxiety, and PTSD from childhood trauma. I recently started medication to help manage my diabetes. I took my usual depression med with it and IMMEDIATELY felt horrible. I sent a MyChart msg asking if that was normal and he responded that those 2 meds don't work well together and will make my depression worse. So I had to take one or the other. I reach out, again via MyChart to ask if he recommends a med that can be taken together. Nothing. No response. Radio Silence. It was around Thanksgiving so I assumed maybe he was out of the office or was busy. I waited and still didn't hear from him. Again, understanding I'm not his only patient so I am trying to give him time to answer. Plus it was the holiday season. It is now January and I haven't heard anything so I called the office. I was told I needed to make an appointment. We had a video visit and I mentioned how it would of been helpful to let me know that he wanted me to come in. I was waiting for a response to tell my PCP. He lost it. He was yelling at me explaining how he doesn't communicate via MyChart. (he must of forgotten he had before) He was interrupting me while I was trying to speak. Being insanely rude. When he got done he said in a very condescending tone "Do you wanna talk or not?" I explained that I was not comfortable having a session with him while he had that demeanor. I then got a letter stating he was dropping me as a patient due to: difference in treatment care philosophy between physician and patient. 3 years ended over his ego. I beg you seek help elsewhere.

Add me to the list of people that had to fill out a questionnaire about myself to be assessed by Dr. Songer to "decide" if he wants to see me as a new patient. Sure enough 2 days after turning in the paperwork I was told that he decided not to treat me. No explanation just a number to call to find someone else. Do yourself a favor now and find that "someone else" on your own and save yourself the heartache.

In a range of 0-10, Dr. Songer is 15. He always listens intently, responds compassionately, and is crazy-skilled at problem solving and developing effective treatments in the face of illness that resisted simple prescriptions. He provides comfort and hope as well as superlative professional expertise. He is one of my personal heroes.

Extremely professional, excellent provider

The radio station being played had a song that included hate speech and suicide. Please consider changing stations. I wouldn't have anticipated this being in a medical office. I wasn't upset, but felt it is worth mentioning as it might be upsetting for others.

He accepts new patients, makes you fill out 20 pages of new patient paperwork and then you get a call that he can't see you or treat you. I had no idea that you have yo pass a selection process to be treated. Very disappointing!

Dr. Songer is very helpful and thorough. He is easy to talk to and explains things well. The admin people are always friendly and helpful as well

I wish the provider would have told me that the prescription for 30 pills would cost me $240.00. I was shocked when I went to the pharmacy. I cannot afford this so the visit really didn't help me because of the cost. I picked it up but will not again.

There is really nothing much to say. Doctor Songer listened to what I had to say we discussed my symptoms and medications, then set up for my next appointment.

Dr. Songer is great for me, because he understands my circumstances and helps me cope. I have Major Depression, and he has helped me to deal with some of the greater real-life issues that might trigger an episode of Acute Depression.

Dr. Songer is the most professional, intelligent, flexible, prompt, logical, and caring psychiatrist I have worked with. He does not give medications for no reason.

I’ve been seeing Dr Songer for almost 2 years. I enjoy our conversations and he always listens to my concerns. I love his staff and they are always welcoming. He is a psychiatrist. His appointments are quick and to the point. If you want to sit down with someone for an hour you should meet with a psychologist.

Recently I witnessed my husband shoot him self in the head, and desperately try to save his life. I am experiencing severe depression anxiety & survivors guilt, & I reached out to my insurance provider and they directed me to this person, and after a 2 min questionnaire he decided that he didn’t want to see me, and refused to give a reason why. He was very cold and rushed. I did not feel like he cared about me as a person and our routine appointments would be about 15 minutes long. Due to his brisk attitude, I did not feel comfortable sharing conflicts I was experiencing in my life, which would have been important info for him to have.

I am very surprised at some of the other comments. His office staff is amazing, as is he. He is always on time. He is very personable, kind, listens, and always seems to know exactly what I’m trying to get across. If you’re looking to talk for an hour, you need to be seeing a psychologist, not a psychiatrist; although, when needed, Doctor Songer has taken the extra time with me. Do not waste your time even trying to get an appointment with this so called doctor. You have to fill out a lengthy questionnaire and wait for them to call you back. The doctor then picks and chooses whether he will treat you or not even though another psychiatrist (that Dr. Songer work in conjunction with) referred you for medication. He offers no explanation why he will not take you on although his website states all the different symptoms he treats. After reading the other reviews I think it is a blessing in disguise because who would want to be treated by such an uncaring doctor anyway? He probably just wants to treat easy fixes and go on about his day....

When I was a patient of Dr. Songer's, he was rarely on time and when I mentioned to the staff that I was waiting for an extended amount of time before I was seen, they laughed and acted like I was lying. After I left his care, I tried getting my medical records at the beginning of the year. I was told they would check with the doctor and call me back. Well I never heard back. I called them again in October and everything was going well until they said they would call on Monday of the next week after they talk with the doctor. I even sent a message to Songer through MyChart, but he didn't bother to reply to that either. Again, I never heard back from them until I called a couple weeks later. I never got a complete copy of my medical records, I was told they don't give medical records to patients. I find this complete B.S. because I have managed to get my complete medical records from every doctor previously. The only thing they were willing to give me was a copy of the prescription list. Overall, this is one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a doctor and staff. I recommend going some place else. Absolutely horrible. Had tried to receive treatment at this office for the last couple of weeks. Was told to fill out a patient guide the day they contacted me. I proceeded to fill out the patient guide the day of the first call, then sent it in right away. They then contacted me TWO weeks later telling me they never received the information. I double checked spelling in my email because they requested it be emailed to them. The lady on the phone told me that it was correctly spelled, so I sent the patient guide again (TWO WEEKS later). Just received another call again 4 weeks later saying that they still did not receive the patient guide. I'm just extremely confused? I don't want services from an office that can't keep its paperwork together. I'm sure Dr. Songer is great but his staff can't seem to stay organized or contact me ASAP if there's an issue not receiving paperwork. My daughter is 25 years old & has bio-polar two & is ADD. She also has PTSD due to massive shooting in the Oregon District in Dayton (she lives in the Oregon). One of her best friends was shot in the leg & survived the shooting. She really needed to get into a psychiatrist & called Dr. Douglas Songers office as he was taking new patients. She had to complete a questionnaire first before she could make an appointment & it was up to the doctors discretion if he wanted to see her. She messed around with that for about a week because the website was not working. She then printed it out & filled out herself & emailed to them. They did not receive the last page (urgh). She had to re-send again. Finally, they got back to her & decided they would see her. She made the appointment. On the day of the appointment, she pulled up on her phone the wrong Dr. Songer & the GPS took her to another Dr. Songers office in Moraine. :( She panicked & called me. I called Dr. Songers office (which is in Bellbrook) to explain the situation & could she still come in to see him (would probably be about 15 minutes late). They did not give me an answer & would need to check with the doctor. The receptionist there said she would call my daughter back. She never did!!! I called them again & could not get through. My daughter called several times & left messages explaining the situation. No Calls back!!! :( Finally, I called the office again & got through to the receptionist she stated since my daughter missed the appointment she cannot make another appointment until she pays a $300 late fee!!!! Really!!?? What the heck! My daughter is a new patient that has never been there before! Its not like she was a previous patient or she was just blowing it off she really tried! Mind you, they never once returned her calls!!!! Oh I guess charging her $300 for her going to the wrong address is gonna help her with her treatment! She is stressed out enough & does not need this to add to her stress!! I proceeded to ask to talk with Dr. Songers office manager (which by the way she was very nice & helpful----the only thing good about this whole experience!) to see if he could take in consideration the circumstances. I explained everything to her & what happened & she said will have to check with Dr. Songer to see if he will waive the $300 fee. She got back with me & said he said No & if she wants to see him she would have to pay the money first! Oh my gosh.....this has got to be the most insensitive doctor I have ever encountered! I mean come on......all he cares about is getting his money & not the welfare of my daughter!! Just Sad!!!! Dont waste your time with this so called caring Doctor!!!

I just called to see if they were taking any new patients and the receptionist was incredibly rude. I have terrible anxiety that I am trying to deal with and making these phone calls is scary. The receptionist needs to learn how to speak to people or find a new job.

AFTER SEVERAL YEARS SEEING DR SONGER, I AM EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTED WITH THE WAY HE HAS TREATED ME !! I TOOK XANAX FOR 50 YEARS AND WAS WILLING TO TRY TO BE TAKEN OFF OF THIS DRUG , BY TAPERING DOWN AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS. HE TOOK ME OFF THE DRUG COLD TURKEY, WHICH PUT MY BODY INTO EXTREME SHUTDOWN....I HAD TO GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM 3 TIMES AND WAS HOSPITALIZED, ALL DUE TO THE FACT THAT HE TOOK ME OFF THIS MEDICATION. I GOT THE FEELING THAT HE REALLY DIDNT CARE WHAT I WAS GOING THROUGH PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY. I HAD TAKEN THIS DRUG SINCE I WAS 21 YEARS YEARS OLD I AM NOW 69. I WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT HE HAS DONE TO MY LIFE.... I ALSO BELIEVE, BECAUSE OF THE OPIOD CRISIS, HE JUST DIDNT WANT TO PRESCRIBE IT BECAUSE, PERHAPS HE DIDNT WANT TO HAVE THAT DRUG ON HIS RECORD!!! WHILE I WAS HOSPITALIZED, THE DOCTOR TOLD ME THAT HE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER...VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS DOCTOR !!!

After close to s 2 week process of having them send you paperwork, you filling it out and sending it back, Dr Songer then decides whether or not he will take you. When your in sever depression, 2 weeks is a long time. After that 2 weeks, he said he couldnt take us, even though his specialty is depression and anxiety, plus our insurance covers him. So with no reason why, they said we cant take you. So the long process of finding another doctor starts over. Also at the time his site said accepting new patients. They could have just said no with the first phone call to them. I am very disappointed with this doctor and would not suggest others go.

Dr. Songers receptionist, Carla is extremely rude and blunt. She claims she works long hours but that does not mean you can be rude to patients. If you dont like your job, get a new one. He is a nice doctor and spends time with you. He asks questions and does not make you feel like you need to rush.
