Extraordinary!
Over a long period of time I had been consulting for therapy with Dr. Harder. Deep down I sensed something wasn't right in the therapeutic relationship. I asked him for the notes on our therapy. I wanted to assess if we were "on the right page." He refused. I had a lawyer intervene. When I reviewed the clinical notes the tone and contents indicated that there was not a fit, not from the get-go. Had I demanded the notes years earlier I might have sought a better fit for my emotional needs. I recommend everyone request the notes after a few sessions. That can prevent what I put myself through.
I question the use of silences by this therapist. On the one hand, silence can motivate the clients to reflect on what they are saying. On the other hand it can be excessive and not be at all helpful. I regret not challenging this therapist on what I experienced at not putting enough energy into the therapy session. Yet I was paying plenty for it out of my pocket.
Effective, compassionate; ethical. There is no staff so that question does not apply.
I did not feel that he was "with me emotionally." Instead he seemed to be coming from his head. He is a Ph.D. in psychology and had been a full professor of psychology at Tufts. I need the connection in healing relationships.
