I have a bill for pre op from another company. My treatment and services are to be under VA with approval. The company did not get the authorization number to process with the VA for a service provided.Ì have made multiple attempts to call the office and have been transferred to areas that have nothing to do with this matter. He’s an Amazing Surgeon with a Brilliant Mind . You Couldn’t ask for a More Caring Accomplished Surgeon

Worse doctor I've ever been to. Went twice and walked away not even knowing what was wrong still. Told me 2 different things both times.

Mechanically moved my head after being diagnosed with arthrogram and Mri with vertebral artery block. Told me “you are fine” and I have had brain damage that could have been stopped.

Dr. Shields performed my second neck surgery and also corrected some of the work the first neurosurgeon did over 10 years ago. The staff are great and Dr. Shields does listen to what you have to say. I was able to get in to see him 2 days after I called, then my surgery was scheduled 2 weeks afterwards. He was great and I'm in no more pain! He is a good doctor... It’s totally unacceptable for a patient to have your patients wait 2 hours past their scheduled appointment. This isn’t the first time. Please do better!

In 1978 , my daughter had a head injury and a golf ball sized blood clot formed on her brain. She was only 3, and I was terrified. Dr. Shield performed a surgery that was new at the time. It was a complete success. She is a wonderful, healthy, wife and mother, with her own business today! I would just like to say , Thank you for saving her life and talking with her dad and me and making us feel comfortable and informed about the surgery. I know it was a long time ago, but I wanted you to know how grateful we are for you!

Dr. Christopher Shields, is one of the meanest doctors I’ve ever met. He does not let you speak. He does not listen. He yells and screams at you. Do not waste your time, with this so called doctor. No one needs to be treated this way! I wouldn’t recommend him for anything

I had a fusion extension from L3 to S1. I have been miserable ever since. This was a major surgery and he (Dr. Shields) decompressed me an Dr. John Johnson installed the new hardware. Well when they decompressed my lower back they compressed every thing above it so now i have 7 bulging disc in my thoracic. My disability papers were never on time. Getting anything out of them was terrible. I ran out of pain medicine after 2 weeks after surgery. It took 2 days of being without before i received a refill because they couldn't figure out which one was suppose to fill it. Their excuse on everything was we are short handed. So i guess that's the patients fault and we have to suffer because their short handed. Their bedside manner is awful. I seen Dr. Johnson a total of 1 minute after surgery during my 3 day stay at Norton's an never seen Dr. Shields period. I canceled all my appointments with them and went back to my original Dr. Thad Jackson. Where they got their rating of second in the nation is beyond me. They will never here from me again unless it's from an attorney. I have filed a complaint on Insuranceky.gov also. The past 3 months have been terrible an they don't seem to care. My post appointment with Dr. Shield's his question to me was " Now have we done surgery on your lower back yet" that is a prime example of being a number versus a patient.So i have no rating at all for neither one of these quacks. Doctor shields was very rude to myself & my brother so we walked out. Didn’t care for him at all so went back to my original dr happily. Would not recommend him to anyone

I am doing an update. I went back to Dr. Shields. I swore I wouldn't. His staff was kind. He was very courteous. Very professional. He listened to me. Actually listened. I was dreading the appointment. I left feeling hopeful. They even validated my parking. The only draw back was, they were running 1 1/2 hours behind due yo an emergency surgery. It couldn't be helped. Otherwise a very nice visit. I went to Dr Shields with all my hopes pinned on him. He basically accused me of being addicted to drugs and trying to use him to get more. I didn't ask him for one single pill or prescription. He said my MRI was normal and found out as I was leaving that he couldn't have seen it because his nurse was still trying to download it. He ordered treatment for me in the form of an epidural but told me nothing was wrong. That all my problems were due to my weight and it was all my fault for being over weight. I was hurt at work. I have gained significant weight since my back injury. I can't walk with out a cane, I tried to speak and he cut me off. Wouldn't listen to me at all. I waited for 2 hours while patients were taken in around me, then he gave me 5 minutes to tell me I'm a blob. He made me feel like dirt. I will not return to him. Ever again. I am doing an update. My husband had neck surgery 2 years ago was a great doctor very professional. I was a nurse practitioner by trade.

The meanest, most horrible staff. And if you think you’ll be able to talk to a doctor once you’ve had surgery, guess again. Horrible people.

Had 2 dealings with this office. Waiting 2 hrs to be seen is terrible. Would not refer this office to anyone.

Can I say "Arrogance Overload". I hate the feeling I'm a $ sign and no more. Dr. Shields has severe "God Complex". Because of his horrible bedside manner I will never know if he's as good as he thinks he is because after my initial visit, I was so put off by him i made an appointment at Leathermine spine center and will not return. There isnt an need for me to see a person who thinks they are God no matter how good they might be. Furthermore, I posted my review in hopes others won't waste their precious time seeing this man. Constantly about weight with Dr. Shields!! I informed him that weight might not be good for a bad back, but it certainly wasn't what caused it!!!! Tells me he doesn't see much change in my back condition compared to the MRI 2 years ago and the most recent one, asked for a copy of the Mri report and there has been a big change it has worsen and I have to have a Ct scan done because they found an Atypical Hemangioa in my Thoracic area, but very little has changed!!! My foot!!! It all boils down to the type of insurance you have, if your on medicaid, then he could care less about you and your condition!!!!! Constantly about weight with Dr. Shields!! My husband has had back surgery from this doctor twice. We love him. I am now scheduling a back surgery by him with no hesitation.

Had Anterior Cervical Fusion (C4, C5, C6) performed by Dr. Christopher Shields on 20 Nov 2017 and have been pain free and feeling great ever since waking from the anesthesia. Dr. Shields fully explained what the procedure would entail and what I should experience. He was extremely professional and, from what I experienced, very good at his job. He and his team stopped by my room the following day to check on my progress but I was in radiology getting x-rays of the previous days procedure and did not get a chance to thank him for all that he and his team did for me. His Surgical Assistant did stop by my room as I was being discharged to check on my progress, answer any questions I may have, and provide me instructions on how to proceed with my recovery at home, which I felt was an extremely professional act. As for being friendly, I'm doubtful he and I would hit it off friends. However, when tinkering with my spine, I'm not looking for a friend....I want a serious, intelligent professional who is honest and I feel I can trust and Dr Shields is exactly that. I understand that not everyone responds to treatment or surgical procedures in the same manner, however, I would highly recommend his services to anyone serious about getting positive results. In 2007 shields and Harpring fixed 2 brain aneurysms, I'm now 53 years old and still going, they did a great job, only problem I had was getting a follow up appointment, couldn't get past the office staff, I can't blame them for that though. I would still give them a 5 star rating David Harrell, Russell Springs , Ky.

Dr. Shields recently performed my surgery. He kept my family updated while in surgery. I am still recovering about 3 months in & have returned to work. He is a straight forward, to the point doctor. No beating around the bush, sugar coating anything. With that being said he is a very smart man with a lot of experience. I went to him by choice, he is in a different city than I am in so my family & I traveled based on the online notes about him. I would not have wanted another doctor to care for me. He is a life changer & saver. I owe this man many thanks. I had screws and rods but into my lower spine. I am 35 years old & have a congenital spine defect that didn't start affecting me until early this year. I went in to see him in July and we were in surgery by September. I feel a millions times better and I know that I will only continue to get better. Doctors are not here to hold hands, if he got attached to all his patients and held hands with them all he wouldn't get any work done. He does not lack good beside manners, he is a doctor who tells you the truth. He doesn't tell you what you want to hear, he tells you how it is. Dr Shields should be avoided at all costs! He is very arrogant and cannot be bothered to speak with with his patients prior to surgery or after surgery. He feels that sending his PA to speak with you is a better use of his time. I have never had a surgeon not come top preop to mark the surgery site, and I have always had my surgeons check in the day after during rounds. His PA was very little help as she didn't do the surgery I had questions about. Ask for Dr Roqua instead!

I recently had surgery done by Dr. Shields. I had a congenital spine defect that recently took it's toll on me at the age of 35. Dr. Shields is a wonderful, intelligent, talented, to the point, up front doctor. I respect his work & thank God everyday that he was able to fix my back. It has been a long journey & a painful journey. Dr. Shields told me about my options of pain management and I chose to be pain free & have surgery. He did his job & while in surgery kept my family involved.

I had my surgery in 2008 was supposed to be a in and out deal maybe 24 in hospital it wasn't woke up in the worst pain you can think of and was in hospital 9 days and could not feel my legs for 8 of them he thought I was some young person wanting drugs which is not the case I hate all meds to be honest his bedside manner makes u feel like you are stupid he thought I was lying he pinched my foot til it bled thinking I could feel it and I couldn't physical therapy was shocked and helped me get to the point to use a cane I would never recommend this doctor. The practice is fine this doctor is not. He made me horrified to even go to a doctor for 5 years over back pain. Found out also it looks like when he went in he actually didn't do anything it looks like by my mri but had to mess up a nerve because I couldn't feel my feet at 24 it's insane and I could go on pick another doctor in the practice! Dr. Shields performed a double cervical fusion on Mon. August 26th, 2013. I have read some disparaging comments concerning his bedside manner, unresponsive demeanor, and his supposed inability to explain surgical procedures. When I first met with Dr. Shields he ran me through the proper tests and every question he asked was specifically directed towards my condition. He fully explained my options and I appreciated his practical advise, as each patient has different thoughts on how they choose to live their lives. I chose to be pain free and to be as physically active as possible, I am only 43 and I have 4 young children who count on me to care for them. He told me the positives and negatives of my procedure along with the risks of any surgery. Dr.s CAN NOT give certainties or guarantees of the outcome of surgeries they perform. They can only do what they have practiced and trained for their entire lives. Besides, when you look at the big picture of things, I could care less if his bedside manner is atrocious. I didn't choose him to hold my hand, but because he is one of the top neurosurgeons in Louisville with YEARS of experience and I don't know about the individuals who wrote bad reviews but when it comes to my physical well being I tend to look for the best. For the record...He was very efficient and straight forward when he came to my room after surgery, as was Dr. Mitchell Campbell, Orthopedic Surgeon, and associate, who placed the plates after Shields finished his work.
