Dr. Ying H Chen

Felt rushed & like doctor really didn’t want to take any time to explain anything or answer questions. Had asked to be seen for my neck and lumbar areas when I made appointment for this third opinion. Chose this doctor based on my family doctor recommendation since he has a lot of work experience with minimally invasive procedures. But when I arrived, they said I was only set up for my low back. Told the doctor I would like someone to actually take the time to explain what was going on in the MRIs - not just that I needed these two very major surgeries (fusion & laminectomy of 4 regions). Didn’t get that. Doctor did not seem interested in looking at my current MRIs much because they were done in Nov 2021 and I saw him June 2022 - said they don’t like to look at ones past 6 months old (mine were one month past that) so ordered another lumbar mri and said to come back after I got that. I had to pay out of pocket to see him for this consultation and feel it was not worth the expense.

Dr Ying Chen DO and his assistant Kirsten, are the best that New Albany has to offer. This doctor has done my cervical and lumbar surgeries on my body. 4 months out from my surgery on my lumbar spine and I feel great. No pain what so ever. Doctors don't get any better than he and Kirsten. What a team !!!

Dr. Chen was very informative of what was going on. I feel he did an excellent job and I would highly recommend him!

Dr Chen has been an awesome doctor, he found the issue with my sacroiliac joint that three other surgeons over the past 8 years couldn't figure it out. My thanks go out to Dr. Chen and all his staff, Kirsten and Riley you guys are awesome too, keep up the excellent care you give. I was very impressed with Dr. Chen. He addressed my concerns and has suggested a surgery that will be best for me. His office is very efficient in giving me all the information I needed to make this decision. I will be looking forward to the surgery and a good outcome.

Everyone that works there is very professional and informative. This office runs so efficiently. Very compassionate and caring employees.

I had been experiencing pain for a couple years which I was told was hip pain. Dr Chen explained that it was my SI joint which was causing the pain. I went to PT for 4 weeks. It has now been 2 months since I completed PT and still no pain. I know I’m a little late reviewing but wanted it give it a couple months. Thank you Dr Chen.

I don't pay to see a physician's assistant. I paid to see the actual doctor. I have seen him one time out of the two times I've been there and I am still in pain and I'm getting no help from him at the moment

Very professional and provided plenty of information as to what was being done. I would definitely recommend or would use his services again if needed.

Mount Carmel New Albany hospital is a fantastic hospital. Staff getting me ready for my surgery was great. Nurses were very professional. Dr Chen was very knowledgeable on what kind of surgery I needed on my back. I give him 5 stars.

I am blessed to have used Dr Chen and his staff for my surgery. Lumbar laminectomy at area 4/5. The surgery changed my life for the better. From the beginning of the process to the end the staff helped me with any questions. Back surgery is a tough decision to make but these people gave me my life back. They reposited a nerve in my back after I have dealt with syatic nerve pain for three three years. . Dr Chen, his assistant and everyone in the office and surgery center helped me along the way. I was referred to Dr. Chen by the Veterans Hospital in Columbus Ohio for evaluation of my neck. After the evaluation Dr. Chen and his Physician Assistant sat down with me and discussed the options that were available to me. I have to say that the surgery went extremely well and I have been followed up with on an appropriate level. Even the incision has healed to where it is hardly noticeable. Wouldn't want any other Dr.,Dr.Chen will do everything he can to fix your problem. I have referred several people to him,he is the greatest and his staff is just as good.

Dr. Chen was very through and curtsies during our encounter. He appears to be genuinely interested in helping me rid myself of the excruciating pain I am always in. I just began seeing him so we will see what happens in the future! I like him very much and I think that is very important.

Absolutely yes I would recommend Dr Chen. I had cervical fusion surgery in April 2021 by Dr Chen. Although I have other issues with my neck arm and surrounding area I am very pleased with the results as I can use my hand better with a lot less pain, numbness, and tingling. Dr Chen and all of his staff are caring, courteous professional and friendly. Almost no wait for office visits very clean and organized. Everyone at the surgical facility were friendly, kind, and professional as well.

My first two appointments went very well and I didn’t wait long. Everyone in the office was very friendly!!! However,,, I’ve been waiting for weeks for a surgery date . I’ve left several messages with no return calls. When they saw this review they called immediately. Set up my surgery date. Dr. Chen is a fantastic surgeon and ALL of my medical issues pertaining to my neck are gone!! I have more mobility in my neck than I’ve had for years and no more pain! Dr. Chen is an excellent doctor. I have been a patient of his for over seven years and he had helped me with my spine surgery and pain management.

I’ve had 3 spine surgeries with Dr Chen and every single one has been amazing. He listens to all concerns and takes action based on that. I have degenerative disc disease and I have many issues that he has addressed and quickly before the next level is able to degenerate.

Seen Dr. Chen for a cervical spine herniation. Excellent doctor who is very personable and talked to me in terms that I could understand. Dr. Chen is not a doctor who tries to rush you into surgery. Only see’s surgery as a last option. Would highly recommend him to anyone.

At my follow up visit, I was able to ask all of my questions with his PA. She was patient and thorough.

Thank you Dr Chen performing my surgery January 11. I have no more nerve pain. Hopefully we can settle my SI syndrome. I just wish I could have seen you for my follow up appointments.

Dr. Chen was probably the 13th or 14th surgeon I went to see in the past 12years. He quickly and correctly diagnosed me. Surgery helped so much. The only issue I had was the amount of pain after surgery was really bad and they wouldn’t prescribe any pain meds. They told me to take what I’ve been on. It was ridiculous. I read a review just like the one I’m leaving now and almost cancelled my surgery. I called the office and talked to them about my concerns and they assured me I would be taken care of and given medication. They didn’t and it was a nightmare. I had my SI joint fused and i still need the other side done but I’m terrified to go through that again. Besides the issue with pain everything else was very nice.
