Reviews for Wolfgang Fitz
Not sure if you just post positive things about Wolfgang Fitz. He did my knee replacement and my knee has never been right. He has ruined my life. He is cold hearted and arrogant. Was never able to speak to him directly after my surgery, I had excruciating pain and was doing home pt my pt kept calling and the answer she received this is part of it. I ended up being rushed to the ER in RI and was told I had a fractured hip, I had never fell - could have been done in surgery. If he had only followed through by ordering me an X-ray I maybe would not have gone through this. I had to have surgery in Boston due to the fact I had my knee done up there. I ended up getting a wonderful physician to do my hip surgery. Fitz and his staff never even called to follow up on me. Think seriously before you get him. I know other people that had very bad experiences with him and his staff. I could go on and on but this should tell you something. My life has never been the same!!

Dr Fitz replaced my left knee ten years ago. I had to have my right knee replaced and there was no other doctor I would have had to do my replacements. Dr Fitz you are the best!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your amazing work!
Dr Fitz is the best. For years I was in terrible pain and was afraid of surgery. Dr Fitz was recommended to me so I gave in and went to see him. I had the surgery and couldn’t believe the difference immediately. Only 1 night in the hospital. Up and walking. So sorry I waited. I HIGHLY recommend Dr Fitz and the care I received at the hospital. It was so good I had the other knee done. 5+ stars for everything. Don’t wait. I wasted to much time.
Dr. Fitz is no doubt the best knee surgeon in New England. And if you want a truly custom knee implant, he has completed more that 5,000 of them since 2011. I know knee implants and the procedure being a biomedical engineer in the field for 44 years. When it came time for my knee replacements, there was no question who was going to do the procedure. I now have both knees replaced by Wolfgang Fitz and had him use the fully customized Conformis knee.
Excellent process from discussion, admitting, surgery thru rehab. Top notch surgeon and hospital (Faulkner B&W)
Due to the success of my first knee replacement by Dr Fitz in April 2022, I returned this past April 2023 and had him replace my other knee. Both surgical results have been great!

My experience with Dr Fitz and his staff was wonderful before and after my surgeries. Working wuthvthe Force ap made it easy to stay in touch and Watch my progress. Very hsppy with the whole pricess.
For my knee replacements, I really needed to have total confidence in my surgeon. I did! He was Dr. Wolfgang Fitz!
Every aspect of the procedure was well organized and well planned; surgery skillfully performed.
He’s the best. Had my first knee surgery with him 10 years ago. When I had issues with rescheduling due to the pandemic he called me back in minutes, even while on vacation.
Dr. Fitz and his team performed two knee replacement surgeries for me, with the 1st in January and the 2nd on 9 weeks later - e.g. 8 weeks apart. My experience throughout the whole process was stellar -- from efficient scheduling of pre-surgery testing, to the day of operation, when I, was, "in and out", heading home to Western MA in 5 hours, and follow-up. I am now 5 weeks out of the 2nd surgery, and have full flexion, am building strength and range of motion. I've resumed Pilates, woods walking, driving (of course), and rebuilding my stamina. Last week my PT was curious how far down I could go into a supported squat (e.g. holding onto bars to ensure balance). I went fully down. Not only do I highly recommend Dr. Fitz and Kelly, but my PT declared, "Dr. Wolfgang Fitz, right? I will 100% recommend people to him, based on your remarkable recovery." I have just entered my 8th decade. Much gratitude to them. Great partial left knee 2008 with Oxford hardware, 2019 Conformis total right knee I have only 90 degree ROM can't even ride my bike anymore, I am active and work diligently at recovery, MD office didn't follow up post surgery. Very disappointed with last procedure and office but will give 5 stars to Faulkner Hospital care where both surgeries took place.
Dr. Fitz personal visit was great . I was very confident that he was a great surgeon. He showed Great personal concern for my health.I was truly comforted by his personal Way Of making me understand exactly what I was to go through. Thank you Dr. Fitz.
Dr. Fitz and his team are the absolute best! I tried everything to avoid having to do a replacement, and now wish I'd done it sooner!!!! Recovery does take some time and effort - but that time really goes by quickly and you suddenly rediscover what mobility is like! Dr. Fitz impressed me with both his background and his overall knowledge of knee physiology. His team are equally impressive and their pain management protocol is an excellent one - I can honestly say I never experienced any significant discomfort. Can't say enough good about these folks and am truly pleased with the result. Dr. Fitz and his team are the absolute best! I traveled from NC to Boston for a partial knee replacement 10 years ago with Dr. Fitz. He did a fabulous job-so good in fact that I was a little too active post surgery and reopened the incision and became infected. He operated again cleared the infection and I had an outstanding outcome. But It became necessary to replace this partial with a full this summer. I traveled back to Boston for the expertise of Dr. Fitz and Kelly. I have had a great experience with this tkr. In fact 12 weeks post op Oct 23 I set a personal record for myself on a 60 minute Peleton class. I now believe that the expertise of the surgeon and his team is the best predictor of outcome. I would not hesitate recommending Dr. Fitz to anyone considering a knee replacement. I traveled from NC to Boston for a partial knee replacement 10 years ago with Dr. Fitz. I haven't a single complaint or reservation regarding my TKR performed July 12 at Faulkner Hospital. Dr. Fitz and his team have the entire procedure down to a science. All instructions prior to surgery were thorough and clear. I followed them to the letter. I know there was some pain after surgery, but I can hardly remember it. It wasn't dominant. I was too busy being impressed with how smoothly and professionally it all went in pre- and post-op. Dr. Fitz had been recommended to me by my cardiologist, and he more than lived up to his reputation. I just had a custom Conformis TKR by Dr. Fitz. Totally happy! Did pre and post exercises via the Force Therapeutics program. I was up and walking the same day and going up stairs the next day after discharge. Both Dr. Fitz and Ms. DiLoffi PA-C are excellent. This was my second TKR by Dr. Fitz and my husband has both TKR's by Dr. Fitz. I think doing the pre exercises help me as I had very little pain and was mobile very fast. I am fortunate to have Wolfgang Fitz MD as my knee replacement surgeon. His exercise program before and after surgery made my recovery rapid and complete. My experience at Faulkner Hospital was excellent. From pre-op to post-op I felt secure with all personal who took care of me. I appreciate having a positive experience.
I don't want to give Dr Fitz even 1 star! I had to in order to post it. He doesn't deserve it. I had my knee replaced 3 years ago by Dr Fitz. He always kept me waiting for my appointments, mostly for 1hour or more. Often I saw Kelly when expecting to see the Dr.. During the 3 years my knee had pain that continued to worsen as the years went on. All that I heard from Dr Fitz was he doesn't know what to tell me. After 2 nuclear bone scans and many X-Rays he continued to tell me he didn't know what was wrong and I could get my knee replaced again. The last visit was the worst when I asked him about my 2nd nuclear bone scan and he replied I "you didn't have one, that was a year ago". Well, I brought a copy of the report and he said "oh". In other words he never looked at my chart. I had 2 different doctors opinions since then and both doctors told me what the problem was. There was a space between my bone and bottom plate. I have since had my knee replaced again and 2 months since my surgery my knee continues to improve, looks and feels better than it did after 3 long painful years! Last thing, Kelly is the one whom closed up my knee and left a unattractive scar with a dent on the top... If you are considering Dr Fitz, reconsider!!! I don't want to give Dr Fitz even 1 star! 0 stars if it were possible. I seriously question the competence of a surgeon that does not seem to look at his patient’s record until the moment he is walking into surgery. Canceled after prepped, with IV and all - TWICE! Wish Dr Fitz understood that his patients’ time is valuable too, not to mention their mental health after preparing themselves for surgery, arranging time off and planning for recovery. Both of these instances could have been avoided with a five minute chart review. Not waiting for a third strike to say, “You’re out!!!” 0 stars if it were possible. Had bilateral total knee replacements with conforMIS in July 2018 with Dr Fitz, easily one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. No limitations whatsoever, no more pain, highly recommend to anyone considering it!!
I am now 13 weeks post op and I am very pleased with Dr. Fitz and Kelly. I was walking the day of the surgery and discharged the next morning. I was able to climb stairs with the one leg at a time method right away and it was on that basis I was discharged. I only used the walker in the hospital and at home used crutches, but was off of them in a day at home. At home PT was 4 visits and I was walking outside with a cane for for two days at the end of the first week and then carrying the cane on the second week. I now walk 2.5 miles about every other day, either outside or with the cold weather on the Treadmill at the gym. I am doing 2 hour workouts at the gym which now includes 90 min. of upright bike with mid-range resistance. My exercise routine is now further (more weight on machines) along than I was pre-op. I did 17 visits with PT outside of the home and my range of motion is -3 hyper extension and 140 degrees of Flexion. I have been back to the driving range and hope to golf, walking, when the weather warms up and my wife and I are back to taking Ballroom Dancing Lessons! Dr. Fitz said I was a star patient, as I had done pre and post exercises to both prepare and recover from the TKR. Everyone says do the exercises, and that is exactly correct. My wife has had both knees replaced by Dr. Fitz and we are both very pleased with the outcomes of the surgery. My other knee has improved since the TKR and as a result, I may be able to wait for a good bit of time before I have the other knee done, now that I am walking properly with my new knee. It is interesting to note that on the day of surgery on the one knee, my other knee hurt worse, and now it doesn't bother me much at all. I would highly recommend Dr. Fitz for anyone that is facing a TKR. In my book, he is the best! I am now 13 weeks post op and I am very pleased with Dr. Fitz and Kelly. Ten years ago, I went to New England Baptist regarding my knee pain. I was told at the time that I was a candidate for double knee replacement due to arthritis. I wasn’t ready to make that commitment at that time while also consulting with my primary care physician. She assured me that my decision would come when I couldn’t perform the activities that I loved, like walking, biking, and hiking. During the summer of 2019, I’d waited long enough and began to search for the best Orthopaedic doctor available in the Boston area. I live in Western Massachusetts, and luckily know several people that work in the medical field. I went with a trusted source that said she’d heard that Dr. Fitz was performing knee replacement surgery with a Conformis implant that was custom made for your knee. That made sense to me. On June 15, 2020, Dr. Fitz replaced my right knee, on August 24, 2020, he replaced my left knee. I was introduced to their online program, inputting and updating my recovery, while following their online exercise program. I’m still getting in-home physical therapy for my left knee. Yes, there’s pain, and, you have to move, and commit to his instructions, but it is all worth it. Dr. Fitz is very soft spoken, listens carefully, and is an incredible surgeon, with a team that make you their number one concern. Questions are answered within 24 hours, virtual appointments have kept me out of medical buildings during this Covid crisis. I feel so fortunate to have had this procedure done with such professionalism. The surgery was performed at Brigham & Women’s Faulkner Hospital, matching the same quality and professionalism as Dr. Fitz and his team. I would highly recommend Dr. Fitz, his team, their program, and Brighams. Thank you to all. Ten years ago, I went to New England Baptist regarding my knee pain. Dr. Fitz was the 2nd surgeon I interviewed about replacing my L knee. The previous week I had met a MGH surgeon who spent 'maybe' five minutes with me. His fellow did spend about 20 minutes talking to me. But I left feeling like I was just another 'knee' not a patient. Then I met Dr. Fitz who walked into the room with a sheaf of papers, my medical records that he had printed out and obviously had reviewed. He discussed my medical history with me thus making me feel he cared about me as a patient. Dr. Fitz was transparent about his relationship with Conformis, the company that supplies the hardware he uses. He looked at my knee and asked me to perform some tasks; getting up from the chair, walking, etc. Then he explained the prehab program his patients use to prepare; a stationary bike and daily exercises offered by a website, Force Therapeutics. He also mentioned that some of his patients improved so much with this program, they put off having a knee replacement. I was really impressed and said I was ready to 'sign up'. He walked me down the hall and introduced me to his physical therapist who spent about 30 minutes assessing my capabilities. I spent about 10 months in the prehab program riding the bike five days a week and following the exercise program. But I was still unable to walk for exercise as I had done before my knee really declined. So late fall I let the office know I was ready for a TKR. On Jan 4, 2021 my knee was replaced. I had a 7:30 surgical slot, was dressed by noon and home by 1:30. It was minimally invasive surgery which made a huge difference (along with my prehab) in my speedy recovery. 1st day postop I was able to bend my knee to 95 degrees! I never needed any narcotic medications. On day 10 postop Dr. Fitz viewed my knee virtually; thought it looked really good and gave me the ok to drive since I was not taking narcotics. His PA, Kelly, was also very instructive and helpful whenever we spoke. It was an amazing experience far better than I ever imagined. If I need to replace my R knee, you can be sure I will return to Dr. Fitz. I have recommended him to everyone that asks about a knee surgeon. Dr Fitz is amazing! I had two total knee replacement surgeries with Dr Fitz and my care was excellent. Better recovery than many of my friends who had the same procedure elsewhere.
I was impressed with Dr. Fitz first by a friend's experience and then by comparing his responses to questions to another surgeon's. The difference was stunning. The experience focused on preparation before and after TKR. Friends in the medical field were amazed by my rapid progress. I will definitely seek him our for the next knee or hip as the case may be.
Very satisfied with my treatment. My only regret that we could not do more face to face but this was out of everyone’s control due to the pandemic. However this care team did an amazing job communicating every step before , during and after surgery. Thank you
Fr. Fitz has done 2 knees for me. 1 partial and 1 full. As far as I am concerned there is no other knee surgeon!
Despite meeting mostly remotely, Dr Fitz was thorough, responsive and above all is an amazing surgeon. I had the fastest recovery from full knee replacement than anyone else I know...and unfortunately LOTS of friends and family have had this procedure elsewhere.. with long recoveries.
Bad experience with TKR. Blood clot, constant pain, leg will not bend to 90. Repeated calls to his office and filling out computer reports with no returns from him or staff. It's as if you are on your own after replacement.
DR.FITZ,may be may be renown for orthopedic surgery for the knee and below i am here to tell you he has magic in his hands.I had two total hip replacement within three months and with each operation begin to be normal.today i am almost totally pain free . I am now walking with a cane no longer needing to rely on a walker i am looking forward to not needing any assistance in the near future.i can only hope that once doctor fitz is finished creating orthopedic magical moments he will want to teach his techniques to the world and become the professor of orthopedics.
I'm a 68 year old woman, born with bad knees, chronic problems my whole life, discouraged from surgery by two surgeons near where I live saying I would show no improvement. Dr. Fitz changed my life. He gave me back my life. His gentle reassurance and confidence, not only that he could help but make custom replacements that truly corrected major problem. Both done, one month apart. Exceptional results within a month of each. I would give Dr. Fitz, his staff, Brighams, 100 stars if I could.
I had my left knee replacement in 2019 and my right knee replacement this July. I highly recommend Dr Fitz. After decades of living with pain, finally my quality of life is so much better.
I had my total left knee replacement by Dr. Fitz 2 years ago and my right knee was done on 7/20/20. I couldn't have wished for better outcomes. Grateful to have such a highly skilled surgeon.

Seven years and my Conformis TKR is great. Thanks Doc.
All went well with both knees being replaced up and about with in weeks of both surgeries and excise therpey very happy with results
I just had surgery this morning, total knee replacement; and I feel great this afternoon. I will keep you updated on my recovery.
Dr. Wolfgang Fitz is an outstanding surgeon . He performed a left knee replacement eight years ago and just a month ago replaced my left hip. I am a 70 plus age male. Both operations were outstanding successes. My knee had deteriorated over a decade to a point that I could not walk to my mailbox without significant pain. I had run multiple marathons in years past. I had waited way too long to have it replaced. I conducted detailed research and sought opinions from three very well respected Boston based surgeons. One told my wife and I the knee was catastrophic and walking would require over a year of rehab. Dr Fitz's discussion was clear and detailed. He indicated that I would receive a custom knee, and most recently, a custom hip replacement engineered precisely for me. It was so clear that he was an accomplished surgeon but also had engineering expertise, I believe, a key component to a successful replacement. The results speak for themselves. Rapid recovery, and minimal pain. I was walking after both my knee surgery and hip much sooner than anticipated. Both feel great. I would be doing an injustice if I didn't mention the wonderful treatment that I received from Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital and staff. I cannot begin to describe how professional and thorough Dr. Fitz is, from pre-surgery to post surgery. I am walking normally now, after total replacement on both knees, one 3 months ago, the other, six months ago. It's a life changer, for sure. Can't wait to get on the tennis court.
I had my right knee done on 1/06/2020 its now been 3 months Im continuing my PT as instructed through the program - which is very informative and helpful. Im lining myself up to have the left knee done next year the whole staff is phenomenal I would not hesitate to recommend DR.Fitz and the staff
I had been a patient of Dr. Fitz for a number years leading up to my left TKR in November, 2019. From the beginning I was grateful to have a surgeon who would not perform surgery until I was ready. Now that the surgery has been done, I can honestly say I have had complete trust in Dr. Fitz and his whole team. They have answered every question and comforted every fear. Dr. Fitz is brilliant surgeon. I feel grateful to have been in his care; so much so, my right TKR is in April, 2020.
I wish I had Dr. Fitz for my first knee replacement. However, he did a partial and successful revision on it and then later replaced my other knee. Superb surgeon with a great bedside manner, terrific protocols all resulting in a solid recovery for me. I have referred several friends to him.

I had a TKR done in August 2019. Dr. Fitz is a very skilled surgeon and I had an uncomplicated recovery. Scheduling with his office was the most frustrating experience I've even had with a medical provider. I first contacted his office to schedule a new patient appointment in November 2018, and made an appointment for March of 2019. A few weeks before that appointment my appointment was rescheduled by his office for May 31. Three days before that appointment it was canceled and I was offered an appointment for July 18th. I was furious and insisted on speaking with a supervisor who was able to give me an appointment for June 7th. I had a similar experience with my 2 month post-op appointment with Dr. Fitz - canceled 2 days before it was to take place. I am grateful Dr. Fitz didn't reschedule my surgery appointment and the staff at the Faulkner Hospital were outstanding. But his scheduling staff were unsympathetic and often unhelpful.
Straight forward and honest. I highly recommend Dr. Fitz. Prior to my surgery I ran into others who did have TKR surgery or they knew someone who had TKR and they all talked very highly of Dr. Fitz. I felt very confident in my decision to have Dr. Fitz perform my surgery because of his straight forward and honest assessment of my condition and expectations having the surgery. I followed his post surgery plan pretty much to the letter and feel my personal progress will exceed my own expectations of having surgery. Prior to surgery I struggled to get around, today.......I don't think about it. I'm seven months on my right knee, three months on my left.....life is good! Thank you Dr. Fitz......Thank you.
Excellent orthodpedic surgeon.
Dr. Fitz was great. I had a TKR in October 2017 and could not be more pleased with the results. Initially, I was in more pain than expected so he was seeing me frequently to check on it, then it just mysteriously disappeared! Since then it's been excellent. I do not like to kneel on it, but that is pretty much the rule with TKRs from what I hear. The only time it has any discomfort at all is if I really overdo. He is great with his patients, as is his assistant, Kelly.
Had a TKR. Kept calling the office & also my PT telling them about horrific pain. Totally ignored us. I ended in the ER to find I had a fractured hip., surgery on the hip, rehab, in home pt , out patient pt. Never followed up with me to find out why I did not return, he did major surgery. He has absolutely no bedside manner. His asst. Kelly same thing. If they had only ordered an xray it would have saved me so much pain and suffering. I still have pain in my knee. That surgery set me so behind as I have MS.
Dr. Wolfie Fitz is likely the most talented knee replacement surgeon on the planet. His novel, inventive, and extraordinary, minimally invasive total knee replacement, (TKR), procedure has revolutionized the TKR protocol and has disrupted for the better, the prior practice of this procedure. I speak from direct experience having agonized over options and recovery periods until I got a second opinion, (fifth opinion consultation actually, but they call them all second opinions in the vernacular of the medical tradecraft...), from Dr. Fitz. He assured me that the recovery period after the surgery would be reduced due to the minimally invasive nature of the procedure, which minimizes: epidermal incision requirements and associated blood loss; and musculoskeletal disruption, (well they do saw off chunks of three major bones, the tibia, femur, and patella, so that's pretty disruptive...). I awoke from the procedure in considerable, but manageable, pain, and was surprised when they got me out of bed to bear weight and walk on the repaired leg the same day! I was back at work the next week, and nearly pain free two weeks post-op. Another miracle of modern medicine and this doc is the master. Practices at the Brigham and Women's in Boston, teaches his craft at Harvard, German precision bio-carpentry at its finest!! Highly recommended to all! It took almost three months to finally meet the good Dr and I am not sorry for the wait. In the interest of expediting my surgery that I knew was eminent before my appt, he suggested I consider one of his colleagues perform the surgery. I trust in his expertise and will wait for his schedule to open .
He replaced my left knee 5 years ago. Excellent results. Now it just feels like a regular old real knee. I wouldn’t know it was plastic and titanium by the way it feels. His post-op instructions about what I shouldn’t do with the new knee were too vague for me, though, because I’m an active person. Overall satisfied, though, and would go back if and when the right knee gives out/up.

Dr. Fitz gave me my life back. He is a professional and explains everything he will be doing. I walked a few hours after having a total knee replaced. I thank you for all you have done for me. Two new knees in 16 months. I cannot wait to fuller recover to get back to a normal life.
I would not recommend. There is a level of gross incompetence with this practice. I had a terrible experience with Dr. Fitz, his office and the hospital that ended up costing me thousands of dollars. All this was because none of the above bothered to submit prior authorization to my insurance company. BEWARE

Recently I had both knees replaced within a nine week period by Dr. Fitz and I can't say enough about how professional he and his staff was to me both in the pre-op and post-op phases. Dr. Fitz is an excellent orthopedic surgeon who truly cares for his patients. He stays abreast of any latest methods/technology that will help his patients recover from major surgery with the least amount of pain.
