Dr. William A. Athens JR.

Dr. Athens is one of the kindest people I've met. He treats patients like people. He is approachable, he answers questions, he explains everything so the patient knows their options and the risks/rewards of each one. He never "talks down" to a patient.He actually cares about his patients! His staff is organized and efficient. They do a great job of supporting the doctor and his patients. They know how to deal with all kinds of paperwork from multiple entities. And to top it all off his office is fully mobility handicapped accessible, complete with automatic doors to enter and barrier free halls and exam rooms. Note: you will have to wait in his office. This Doctor is fantastic! He ga e me a new knee that you can barely see scar in 2015, back surgery in 2018 no more pain and new hip Oct 2020 so I can walk beaches and enjoy winter in Florida NO PAIN. His staff is very efficient & friendly. I will go no where else!

If ZERO had been an option I would've used it! I just went for my first appointment with Dr. Athens and was treated so horrible by the office manager Liz that I left in tears. She seemed to be on a Mission to belittle and humiliate me in front of the entire office and waiting room. I drove in from Southfield for my appointment and unfortunately there was an accident along the way so due to traffic I was running late. I tried several times to call the office to let them know but kept receiving their voicemail. I understand they have a schedule to keep and I was almost 15 minutes late but the way this woman spoke to me was incredibly unprofessional, disrespectful and rude. After waiting several weeks for an appointment I would have been willing to wait to see the doctor so the next appointment wasn't delayed due to my tardiness but the way Liz belittled and humiliated me had me so upset that I honestly just wanted out of there. Dr Athens may be a good Doctor but I will never know because I will never step foot in that office again and I would NEVER refer anyone I know to ever go to such an unfriendly place!! Fast and friendly

Dr. Athens is a physician who takes his time and answers all questions! Confident he can resolve my knee pain I went in for today. In 2011 he fixed my rt. wrist that I had fractured. No problems with that. Office staff very nice and so is Dr. Athens!!

Doctor Athens is one of the best! My entire family has seen him and we are all very much pleased with our outcomes.

Excellent Surgeon. Two times 2001 & 2014. Right shoulder, than left rotary cuff repairs. Won't do surgery if you don't need it. 2015 went back for knee problem, (didn't know he does knees), other surgeon want to do surgery. Dr. Athens said, if it's feeling better, don't do surgery. Knee healed.

Dr Athens has always been a great Orthopedic Dr for us. Great manner in office. Very assuring. Always explains thoroughly. I’ve had both kneeees replaced, my husband both th hips and it has w worked great.

Went a while back told I needed to pay a 700 dollar deductible. It had already been paid so my insurance company delt with that. Given a referral for an MRI. Never got to my MRI and forgot because the pain was gone again. Started back up so I asked about about it. They told me that I would have to come back in. Wouldn't give me a reason. Office manager finally called me and gave me some insight. When I told her that was the kind of insight I was looking for she preceded to tell me I should go somewhere else since I seemed unhappy with their practice. After that she hung up on me while I was in mid sentence. Was I upset with the run around, yes. Did I sound irritated. Probably. Dr Athens is really nice. He asked questions, listens and doesn't rush or dismiss you. He clearly knows what he is talking about and can relate to patients of all ages. Very pleased with my choice of orthopedists.

Had a total shoulder replacement by Dr. Athens Nov. 2016. Surgeries are never fun but couldn't have asked for a better outcome. Very happy with results. I would recommend this Doc to anyone!

In 2001, Dr. Athens doggedly pursued the cause of my wife's extreme back pain that no one could figure out, and which had left her in a wheel chair. Dr. Athens listened intently to everything she said, and was very reassuring. Not only did he figure out the problem, but the surgery he performed has left her with no back problems ever since. Two days ago, on July 20th, 2016, Dr. Athens replaced my right hip. Today, I am writing this review from home, after taking a brief walk outside!!!

Had a terrible experience with him. Had a bad surgery, Had to have a manipulation. Never had good range with surgery. Had to have the same knee re done 2 years later. Still was never done right. Then went back to see him he steered me in a different direction. Blamed me for the messy situation. Accused me of injuring myself. Then blamed it on spinal stenosis. Very unprofessional. Would never recommend him..
