I wish I could say I was leaving this review as a current patient but unfortunately Dr Thompson’s office has blocked us from being able to make a single appointment. My son is 13 yrs old and has a shunt. We moved to Savannah almost TWO years ago and have been trying to get in to establish with Dr Thompson ever since. We were told they needed records from previous drs. Understandable. However we were then told that the records we had (past 5 years) were not sufficient and it was “not their job” to request records. So we’ve been stuck in limbo. Now my son needs a major surgery from another surgeon but requires medical clearance from neurosurgery and still we are being blocked from this practice, Even though my son was hospitalized and every test needed for medical clearance was performed BY DR THOMPSON a month ago! So we are left with having to go to Jacksonville to find competent and professional doctors to care for our son who suffers in immense pain every day due to this unprofessional practice! Oh, and don’t get me started on the rudeness of Debbie (take heed to other reviews that confirm this)!

This doc wouldn’t see our son after we moved to SAV for 2 YEARS until we came into the ER. He needed our records to be a patient. Wouldn’t allow us2 bring them. They had to request the records, but… he won’t request records for non-patients. We make sure records are faxed to them & they know they are coming and we need an appointment. We are told records were shredded because we aren’t a patient. Our son finally seen in in ER for shunt adjustment and inpatient for 4 days (the only way he gets patients?). All scans done. Dr Thompson KNOWS our son needs spinal fusion. He knows it’s forthcoming. He has talked to the surgeon. 4 weeks later? Our son’s surgery canceled hours out by neurosurgery because??? “He can’t approve it.” We’ve seen a lot of these guys over the years with our son. Best is in Chattanooga. One of them LITERALLY BLINDED OUR SON FOR LIFE IN ATL! I’d but Thompson BELOW the one in ATL. So… as I said. My advice? Drive to Jacksonville. Thompson should be your last resort.

Dr Thompson has no compassion for our grandson who was scheduled for an orthopedic surgery . With the surgery only days away and the pre op complete, family travel plans made to help, he canceled the surgery of another physician because he, our grandson , had not been seen in Dr Thompson office . Dr Thompson had seen our grandson in the hospital in Savannah one month ago and has done a complete work up . My grandson was not seen by Dr. Thompson’s office because they refused to make an appointment until we provided all of his past medical records from another city where they used to live. His office refuse to request the records they specifically required stating it was not their job. We have provided all the records that we have. His office staff is rude and disrespectful to our family . And my grandson has consulted for the surgery at two other children’s hospital before scheduling here where he lives now. The surgery was to be performed in five days . This is no way to treat a child who has been pre-opt for surgery and emotionally prepared for a major surgery for spinal scoliosis.. even his school has been prepared for him to be out 4 to 6 weeks and is arranging home school teachers as I write this. This is apparently the action of arrogance From the only pediatric neurosurgeon in town and knows it. No doubt he is too busy . I am an anesthesia provider in a rural area and it saddens me to witnessed such behavior from a profession who is to care for children.

Dr. Thompson and his team have been so great with my 1 1/2 year old daughter! I’d recommend him to anyone that has been through the same trauma (car wreck) my daughter was. He really took all the precautions and told me everything I needed to know to help her recover.

I had no problem with Dr Thompson. I absolutely have no use for his staff and I pray that God sends me someone who has great staff and a great Dr. I am human and should be treated as such.

My daughter has been seeing Dr Thompson for a little over a year for her Chiari. He performed her Chiari surgery last year and although there were a few unforseen complications, he has done an amazing job with her!! Hospital staff praised over his work and bragged that Dr Thompson goes as far as parting and braiding his patients hair himself to ensure he doesn't have to shave much hair. Her incision was done perfectly, giving her a very clean *beautiful* scar. He even checked on my daughter on her first night after surgery at 3 am! He calls Dallas his unique rare case but continues to strive to get to the bottom of her issues so she can have chance at a normal life! at every appointment! Bedside manner was awesome and he gave us comfort knowing we aren't alone in this! I will never allow anyone but Dr Thompson to touch my daughter's head! Dr. Thompson has handled cases for two of our children. Most recently, our daughter was diagnosed with a Chiari Malformation. He not only was knowledgeable BEYOND our expectations, but compassionate and genuine with his bedside manner. Yes, sometimes the waits may be longer, but for his skill and compassion, the wait is absolutely worth it.

Dr. Thompson took excellent care of me. His staff was always friendly and very helpful.

If I could give a zero I would! I came to doctor Thompson in February of 2021 and had extreme back and leg pain. He said it was from Chiari Malformation and that I needed brain surgery! I followed his advice and now in December of 2021 I’m still in a extreme pain in my back and leg… after my surgery he released me from his practice and said I was healed after I complained multiple times about being hurt still. After he performed surgery on my my brain was swollen and I had fluid on my brain and he said it would go away. Still in December my brain is swollen and his office will not help me rush my images to the new doctor who is trying to find out what’s wrong with me. Once I stated how unhappy I was with my results this front desk lady Debbie become very mean and nasty not understanding that I just had major life changing surgery and was still not any better. They are nice until they convince you to do what they want you to do nasty when you aren’t happy with the outcome. Doctor Thompson wouldn’t even speak to me or give me another appointment to discuss my concerns… I’m very disappointed because he knew how scared I was in the first place to even get the surgery and promised me I’d be better I still have the cyst in my neck as well. Dr willard Thompson. he is awesome he did surgery on me 2 years ago and it went wonderfully I was so nervous and he was awesome the way he took the time more than once to explain to me the procedure until I completely understood it and understood what it would be like after the surgery and what would possibly happen if I didn't have the procedure done but not pushing me in anyway just to make the money. Dr. Thompson and his staff are wonderful and amazing. They are so caring. My daughter has been seen him since 2018. He has always be straight forward with us about everything that has been going on with our daughter. I couldnt ask for a better Dr then Dr Thompson. We love him. And he saved my daughter life.

Dr. Thompson preformed two surgeries last year for my then two year old son for Chiari Malformation of the brain. It was terrifying to go though. He and his staff were amazing and the walked us through the process each time. My two year old never knew a day without a headache. Since the second surgery my son is the happiest he has ever been. The staff, especially Renee, is so unprofessional I didn’t want to see the doctor I didn’t look at the reviews before attempting to book an appointment here. However, I’m not surprised that he’s currently rated at a 3.9 prior to this review....I believe this negative experience could have been avoided if I had looked at what others said. I gave this place a second chance, even after Renee was rude over the phone, the first time I called June 3, 2020. After walking in June 4,2020 and experiencing the front desk person, I will be going elsewhere. I’m disappointed because I was referred here. A phenomenally gifted surgeon. Once the surgery was complete, everything seemed it was back to normal. They even put 2 braids in my hair to keep it out of the way and minimal hair loss. I would not want anyone else operating on my brain. I am blessed to have him to help me.

I had a tumor removed in July ,and I had the best Dr thank you again Dr. thompson,I was blessed that my ent suggested you ,,I was suppose to be in the hospital around 4 days but I did so well I got out on two had some pain but nothing to bad ,thanks again Dr Thompson and im looking forward to visiting you soon to see about you taking care of my back and neck .I will defiantly and glady tell anyone of they need a great neurologist your the man they want to see.thanks again so much...and by the way I didn't have any problems with Debbie or any of the staff they were all nice . Dr Thompson preformed an urgent surgery on me at the drop of a dime to prevent further damage. I'm happy to say bc of this surgery I am walking and peeing on my own! He made me feel comfortable and confident for surgery. His PA and the whole Neuro floor at the hospital did amazing treating me. Thank you!

Dr.Thompson done my daughter Christina's spinal surgery when she was 8yrs old. Alot of doctors said she wouldn't ever walk again. But he told me to think positive. 15&half hours surgery was finished. I cried more tears in them 15+ hours than I had my entire life. He was amazing to her & to me as a mom. I have never got to thank him for all he did. And yes she walks & has 2 kids. Christina wants to meet him cause I have told her how amazing he was.. she can't remember who he is & I will take her to meet him cause she wants to thank Dr.Thompson also. Christina was one of his 1st patients after he got his office in Savannah. So yes she is 21 fixing to be 22 in July & because of him my daughter walks.. o & God. Thanks Dr.Thompson for all u did. The office person Debbi has the worst customer service ive ever seen, I was not a Person just a number She gave us the run a round for four days, until we had to get a new referral. I have two bludgeoning disk, and the pain is unbearable, but she said she is busy and have not had a chance to ser whats available, and again told mr she will call back later or tomorrow, i ask wht was the likley hood of me geeting in soon she said maybe the 12th or 14th this is totally unacceptably i cant even walk loner than two min, or use the bath room. I would give NO stars if I could. Worst medical experience I've ever had! Our 5 month old has plagiocephaly. Now, I'm the type of mom who wants to do all I can to prevent having to do anything invasive such as surgery or medical devices. We went to PT for 3 months to correct his Torticollis but the plagiocephaly hadn't changed one bit. So to the advice of both our pediatrician and our physical therapist, we were referred to Hanger Orthotics to get a helmet. Got setup and ordered the helmet. 3 days after, our pediatrician called and told us that we should prob go see a neurosurgeon to rule out surgery and that they would be the best people to get us a letter of medical equipment necessity for our insurance. Kinda the wrong order of doing things, but what could we do at that point. So we called and made an appt. with Dr. Thompson's office. Debbie at the front desk told us that the doctor would be on call the day of our appt, but she got us in quick which I was grateful for. And I understand what on call means, but I figure if anything came of it, we would be told. We arrived for our 9:30am appointment. We waited. After awhile, a nurse practitioner came in to talk to us. She was very kind and polite. She got us over to X-Ray (which you had to walk across the parking to - very awkward as we were instructed to leave all of our stuff in the exam room and we walked with our little in our arms outside). The nurse practitioner said once we got the X-ray that Dr. Thompson would be in shortly to review it with us. Once we are done, "go back to the front office and they will escort you back to the exam room". Ok cool. Done - went to front office. We were told someone would be right with us. We waited. After 10 mins, I asked the front desk and they said they are coming. Another 15 mins. Meanwhile all my son's diapers and bottles are in the back of the building and we can't get to it. I asked a third time and then finally someone came and profusely apologized that they'd forgotten about us. Got back to the room. At this point, it has been 2 hours since our original appointment time and we so happened to have our helmet fitting appointment at 11am (which we told them) that we were going to miss. Another 10 mins. later, Debbie the lady at the front desk came in to tell us that the doctor is not here yet and suggested we go to lunch and come back. This was the 1st time anyone has even told us that the doctor was not even there! She said she didn't know when he would be there because he was called to the hospital and that she already explained to me that he was "on call and that he might not be here". I understood that but NO ONE TOLD US from the get go! There was no communication and no transparency. Then Debbie had the audacity to blame me and take no responsibility for the lack of care. So we left and went to our other appt. 45 mins late. We got our son's helmet fitted, got lunch and returned back to Dr. Thompson's office. Here's the WORST PART! When Dr. Thompson came into the exam room, he was tactless and insensitive. As instructed by Hanger, our son was wearing his helmet. I could see when Dr. Thompson came in, he was upset that our son was wearing it. During the appointment, he made me feel uncomfortable. He shamed me as a parent. He told me that my son has macrocephaly and that he'd never recommend a helmet for a kid like that. But he didn't just say it. He said it in a way that belittled and condescended. I have never even heard the word "macrocephaly". He didn't even explain it. He just assumed I would know what he was talking about. Said that it is a "contraindication". again don't know that word. Told me he spent all AM giving bad news to parents that their kid had brain tumors and that our son was perfect and that I'm "HARMING him" by the helmet. Told me he wouldn't see our son if he was wearing a helmet. Our option was we could come back in 6 weeks to see if his growth chart was turning a curve to rule out something else. But it was more of an ultimatum. I would NOT recommend this place. I left his office in tears! I would give NO stars if I could. Worst medical experience I've ever had! Him and his staff are amazing he worked on my brain 3 times and had an amazing after math. He saved my life. I definitely recommend him!!!!!

The Nurse or office manager here is one of the rudest people I have ever come in contact with dealing with the public. I Upon first contacting the office, this "lady" abruptly cut me off to tell me that my son had to have a CT-Scan in order to get in the see the neurosurgeon. I had no idea where to start, so she suggested I call my Primary Care Physician. It took over a month to get a in to see the PCP, another 8 days to get a pre-certification from Medicaid; an additional week to get an appointment to get a CT-Scan; and, a couple more days for the referral to the neurosurgeon. Well, after finally working through all of that...afterwards, she informed me that she would ask the Dr what he wanted to do and call me back. Two days later, she called to inform me that a CT Scan wouldnt do and Dr Thompson wants an MRI. She then denied ever talking to me about the CT Scan and said that I made the decision to get one on my own. Wow! The doctors who employ these office managers that treat their customers with no respect or compassion are not doing themselves any favors. I am at a loss right now. My son is disabled and is awaiting entry into a special training school in Warm Springs...not sure if he will even be able to do with the amount of time it has taken to complete the application... Our son was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation when he was 4, we were terrified about brain surgery; we were referred to Dr. Thompson. He is amazing and so is all of his staff; He takes his time and is so understanding. My son had decompression surgery by Dr. Thompson, my son has almost white blonde hair and I was worried about the scarring but Dr. Thompson did a phenomenal job, if you can say a scar is pretty, I would say my sons is, it's perfect! We love Dr. Thompson and highly recommend him to anyone! Our son was diagnosed with Craniosynostosis at 2 months old. We were referred to Dr Thompson. He and his staff have been excellent. Our son had skull surgery at 3 months old and we could not have chosen a better surgeon for our situation. He was able to answer every question we had (about 2 pages worth) and actually encouraged us to ask questions. Knowing he was in Dr Thompson's hands put us as ease as much as we could be knowing our son needed surgery. We never felt that our son was "just" a patient. I would highly recommend Dr Thompson! Great communication with patient. Very caring, listened, and explained things very well. Neck fusion surgery went very well, and I am glad I had chosen Dr Thompson to be my Dr. Staff and Dr. were very supportive before, and after surgery.

My daughter was sent to Dr. Thompson last year for Chiari Malformations. He was so nice and patient with her and me with all my questions. He made my child feel comfortable.
