Dr. Volney Sheen

I have been a patient of Dr Sheen’s for over 17 years. With nagging and nagging requests to put in a VNS against my willingness to get one, he decided the best route was for me to see a psychologist to try and work out my psychological issues and then we can come bac and address the VNS. This after several attempts, over 7-10 years of trying to ram it in my chest and cut my throat….No mention of maybe try a new diet, exercise, sleeping patterns, sugar intake, on and on… Do not leave it in the hands of one person to claim you are sick and they have the fix without asking someone else first. Especially when they keep asking and asking and asking and then tell you you’re crazy for not doing it. You might actually think there was a bonus in it for him…weird. I give one star because I have to give any.

My spouse saw him for quite a while due to a variety of symptoms. They ended up having imaging done which FOUND Chiari Malformation and they were never told about this finding. Dr. Sheen did not help my spouse but instead told them their weight was only to blame, not the part of their brain leaking out of their head. You cannot lose weight when you are in severe pain and experiencing spasms and continue to receive no help. The diagnosis of the Chiari Malformation has helped my spouse understand their symptoms and manage them better. We only learned about this diagnosis after a car accident exacerbated their symptoms and required further imaging. Also, the Chiari Malformation was measured wrong and was actually larger than marked.

I was very impressed by Dr. Sheen's meticulous physical exam, analysis of the data, and his ability to clearly explain his findings. Top-flight!

Unless it's very obvious, he will not sit and try to work through finding the root through a problem. He listens, but never well and often waits for an answer to come to him instead of seeking one out. I sought out a second neurologist from the encouragement of my physical therapist, family, and company registered nurses and instantly saw a difference in what a neurologist should be like and what a neurologist shouldn't.

I saw Dr. Sheen for the first time yesterday. I have dealt with a variety of medical issues so I have seen many doctors over the years. My overall experience was excellent! Dr. Sheen reviewed my MRI's and medical records, listened to my symptoms, asked a lot of questions and conducted some simple in office tests. He carefully took everything into consideration while developing a comprehensive treatment plan. He truly cares about his patients.

This neurologist was the only Dr. that got it right. He diagnosed me properly.

I had a pleasant experience with Dr. Sheen. He was very thorough with my diagnostic interview and insisted on several followup appointments to monitor my progress after making his diagnosis and prescribing medication for it. After hearing, and trusting, the description of my symptoms he, after multiple health professionals had believed were panic attacks, diagnosed me with epilepsy and prescribed an anti-epileptic. While he was somewhat curt at times, after a few visits it seemed more like a result of a focus on gathering details of episodes than a focus on patient comfort rather than a lack of interest in it as he warmed up over time. Ever since I started the medication he prescribed, I've been symptom free and have tolerated it well.

Poor diagnostic skills. Calling all my symptoms subjective. Was diagnosed by another neurologist.
