About Dr. Uma G Devi
Reviews for Dr. Uma G Devi
I used to go to Dr. Devi from middle school through high school. I am in my mid twenties now and am finally writing this review. I had a horrible experience with her. She is not warm, friendly, compassionate, or empathetic. It seemed like I was a burden to her. She pushed medication on me, and as a young teenager I didn't know the right questions to ask, so I just went along with it. She prescribed strong medications without explanation, especially of the side effects. It was horrible. Some of the medications made me gain a lot of weight, made me lethargic , and more. People around me began to tell me that i was acting like a zombie. My Senior year of highschool, i told her I was depressed and i didn't know why, i just couldn't come out of the darkness i was in. She said that didn't make sense. She kept asking me why i was depressed, she wanted to know the reason. She told me that people don't just get depressed for no reason. She made me feel like something was wrong with me for feeling this way without having an exact explanation. That was the last straw for me. I stood up in the middle of the session and left. I never went back and she never contacted me again. It was truly weird and I'm really surprised she has any positive reviews at all.
Our family has seen Dr. Devi for many years. She was very gentle in application of medicine. She was very flexible and responsive to feedback on medicines that were working or not working. Her staff has always followed up with us. She has always shown compassion not just to her patients from my family but to the rest of the family as well. She recognizes that her patients live in ecosystems are family and school and work and is interested in how all of these interact to best serve her patients. I am grateful that we found her. How she works really works with my family. I see other reviews that are a little bit negative. And I would like to remind all readers that different people look for different things and a provider. What One person loves another person might hate. But if you are looking for a psychiatrist for your children or for yourself please consider Dr. Davy and what she has to offer. She may be the right match for you. You might want something different. And it’s OK if you have to try out multiple doctors before you find the right one for you and your needs. we have always felt heard and cared for at this office and I am grateful for her service to multiple family members. From experience it seems this doctor does not care much about her patients, and just wants to sign a prescription pad. Don't expect anything past the 15 min time slot, and don't expect an ounce of compassion from this person. I cannot give 0 or negative stars... I was told out of the blue that she would not be seeing me anymore without any reason or referral. I moved recently but have been going to appointment via video chat. I was given a 30 day refill for my meds and was told goodbye. Again no reason just I need to see someone local and goodbye. I wasn't even told this by the doctor but by the office staff. I'm looking into filling a lawsuit because of this. If you want to go to someone that will abandon you for no reason and without a referral to another doctor go here.
Been seeing her for almost three years and she never knew what medicine to give me. Every visit was a new dose or a different medication. Every few months she’d diagnose me with something new. This happened for three years. I am truly disappointed that I’ve wasted 3 years of my life with no improvement, just more confusion. She’s very clueless and scatterbrained. Don’t waste your time because they will make sure you do waste your time. Been seeing her for almost three years and she never knew what medicine to give me. It may seem odd to be rating Dr Devi after so many years since she was my psychiatrist, but I am now in graduate school studying psychology and the memories of the time when she was my Dr have resurfaced. When I was 15, Dr Devi quickly diagnosed me with having Bi Polar. She did not speak to me much about what was going on with me internally, instead referring to my parents. I then was prescribed to Lithum for the following 3-4 years. I am not Bi Polar, an have brought this up with other therapists and psychiatrists since- all who are completely confused as to what I was diagnosed this. Those years transition out of high school to bring out in the work, learning how to be an adult are a haze to me. I constantly fell asleep in class as a result, gained 15 Ibs, deep depression set is, and I could barely remember anything. This took a massive toll on me, and as a result, caused more trauma and fear of doctors. The fact that I was still a minor and Dr Devi so quickly prescribed a heavy drug like this is unethical. She didn’t take the time to properly assess me, and caused much more harm than good. I worry about other children and teenagers she has treated in this way. Since that time, I have remained in therapy. I am 33 years old and in my mid twenties, through working with an ethics therapist and psychiatrist, the realization came that I had PTSD from early childhood. It took me awhile to ever see a psychiatrist again after the experience with her. I suggest you be careful when consulting with her, understand her full evaluation of the presenting symptoms, the side effects and ask questions if you’re uneasy about the recommended medication. Too many psychiatrists take advantages of clients for the sake of profit- either not spending suffice my time to assess in order to increase client intake and make money from the pharmaceutical industry. I should also add- when a psychiatrist makes a diagnosis and you are using insurance- the diagnosis is the only way insurance companies will accept and profit. That diagnosis stays on your medical record forever. As a result of Dr Devi’s negligence, this will always be part of my history. It may seem odd to be rating Dr Devi after so many years since she was my psychiatrist, but I am now in graduate school studying psychology and the memories of the time when she was my Dr have resurfaced. … More

Dr. Devi has been medicating me for my anxitey now for 3 years. She usually spends about 15-20 min. each appt. with me. She has always been fine around me, not sure why others are negative saying she doesn't smile or is rude. I'm very pleased with her as my Psych.

She prescribed a medication for me that ended up causing some serious anxiety issues. When I brought it up to her at the next session, she flat out denied that the medication had any side effects, then prescribed me an anti-anxiety medication to take with the medication that caused the issue. I've stopped taking both medications because they did more harm than good and I've been taking a different medication that I've taken for years without any major issues. When I told her that I didn't want to take that first medication anymore she kept trying to talk me out of quitting despite me telling her about several occasions when none of the effects that the medication had had on me had been what was originally intended.
An incompetent psychiatrist that doesn’t understand the scientific basis of depression. If you believe that you could potentially be diagnosed with clinical depression, or any variation of depression, please seek a different medical professional. After many years of going to school, it was shared that she asked why someone could experience depression amidst the absence of depressing things happening. The basis of education surrounding mental health in a medical setting describes a chemical imbalance that could or could not be affected by extrinsic factors. The constant of depression, though, is a chemical imbalance. And patients should not feel badgered or blamed in any session with a psychiatrist, therapist, or counselor. It seems to me that Uma does not have the character or intellectual ability to carry out the duties of the title held. Dr Devi is fantastic! I suffered from anxiety and depression & no other Psychiatrist could give me the right meds that actually worked. But Dr Devi took the time to help me. Her expertise with depression and anxiety clearly helped me to get relief from the depths of hell I was experiencing. We had a DNA test for medications which indicated the medications I can benefit from. It even helped my primary Dr with establishing the correct medications that would benefit me. She is amazing! I have never felt any better in my entire life. Her staff is exceptional, always kind & understanding. I highly recommend Dr Devi as an exceptional Psychiatrist. I can now enjoy my life!???? I have been going to see Dr. Devi for almost a decade now to manage my bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, and anxiety. She and her staff are not only knowledgeable and effective in their jobs, they are accommodating and caring to a fault. Sonny and Dr. Devi have always made sure that no matter what my personal situation was, that my continuity of care was top priority. When my condition changed, Dr. Devi worked with me to get the right meds. I can't recommend her enough.
Dr. Devi genuinely cares about what's going on and makes several notes as the visit progresses. She's never distracted and seems to remember details no matter how many months/years it's been. I recommend her.
I cannot understand some of these negative reviews. Dr. Devi has been helpful, caring, and accommodating. She listens to my problems, and yes, sometimes she is harsh, but for my own good. She helps me see my self-destructive patterns. She took me as an adult patient because no one else would under my financial situation. Sonny is the nicest and best front office person I have ever met and a huge asset to her office. The lady who works with Sonny is cold and ditsy with patients.
It's interesting to read reviews. Some describe Dr. Devi as rude and/or uninterested. IMO, counseling is not one sided. In other words, the mind frame or mental state of the patient could view the session poorly, but could it be that the patient isn't giving the relationship a chance. Doctors need to analyze before they can devise a treatment plan. I find Dr. Devi to be caring even if not obvious at first. She doesn't smile, that's her, but she has helped me and I've seen her for several years.
I saw Dr. Devi for a while about 9 years ago or so. To this day, she is the worst mental health professional I have ever had. She was not welcoming and didn't seem to actually care about my problems. More often than not, I left my sessions with her in tears. I also once confessed something to her, only after receiving her reassurance that she could not and would not tell my mother... 5 minutes later when my mother joined us, Dr. Devi immediately shared what I had said. No respect for her clients
I made an appointment in the middle of a nervous breakdown, memory was not working right, & the place I wrote down the name of the doctor and the time was unreachable. I googled for hours to try and cancel since I got one sooner. I couldnt figure it out who it was I had made an appointment with. I eventually get a call saying I was supposed to tell them more in advance and tell the person at the desk what happened and he interrupts me saying "I think its about being responsible" & hung up rudely

Dr Devi has always been kind and thoughtful. She's helped me with my anxiety. She's very flexible with time and billing. She's very dedicated to her patients. Other patients seem to like her a lot, too. She can be firm, but it's either in her patients' best interest or she's not willing to let someone take advantage.

Dr. Devi has been instrumental in helping my daughter overcome many obstacles. Her appointment availability on Saturday morning is very convenient if we cannot make a weekday appointment due to school. Sonny is very helpful and kind.
I didn't feel at all comfortable talking to her. She was rude, and really harsh and didn't smile even once. Didn't feel welcome there.
She was late. She was condescending and was rude. She was too direct. She was insensitive. She didn't show any compassion. I felt like a specimen being deeply analyzed. She is terrible.
