She's an excellent doctor. She's kind, caring, smart, and very professional. I have never had a problem with Dr. Pennington. ON THE OTHER HAND: If by some miracle you ever manage to get someone to answer the phone or call you back, good on you. Not happening. No one answers the phone. No one calls you back. Chastises you to not call other departments about your medical needs, yet they leave you with no other options. And let's just be honest; some of those receptionists down there could stand a course in effective communication. The sarcasm and rudeness is unprofessional and unnecessary. At this point I'm looking for an email address, but can't find one.
I had no visit yet my primary Dr been trying to help me find a pain specialist.i have root nerve pain.
Dr. Pennington and her staff are close to impossible to talk to on the phone,, You have several options to leave a message and regardless of what option you chose, no one ever calls you back. I went without my pain meds for 2 weeks and still never heard. And this was after having a teleconference call with Dr. and she said the Rx's would be sent to the pharmacy, The staff is rather stand offish and not friendly. If you want a doctor who takes time to talk with you and ask you if your pain regiment is working and if you want someone to be able to reach by phone with a question or concern,,,,, this would not be the office to chose.
Why does this Dr still have a practice, I wonder if she even knows how her team treats her patients. I will never go to her again
They keep their office door locked which is a violation of the ADA Section 404; VBMC Fire Code 13VAC5-63-245 which is a serious violation. US Department of Justice ADA Compliance Department and VB Fire Marshals Office. An ASTM e84 rated. VA DHP will receive a formal complaint.
Dr. Pennington has an excellent bedside demeanor. She has a listening ear, understands and care about each patient. I wish more doctors would be as Dr. Pennington. I would refer my mom to her.
Arrogance and impunity....As a hearing impaired elderly patient, I need assistance. This office staff is rude and unwilling to allow my caregiver to assist me in my appointment. I pleaded with them that I need assistance and I was told they have an in house Covid Policy and only the patient can attend the appointment. Not to mention that we had been waiting an hour past our appointment time to get this rotten service. Read all these reviews...these people are as hateful as these reviews indicate so don't waste your time here.
Dr. Pennington is an amazing Doctor! She’s compassionate and caring. She manages my pain and has been for years now. Her staff is friendly and helpful. I would recommend her 100 percent and I have. I don’t understand ppl complaining about wait time. It’s a doctors office. These days you’re going to have to wait at most doctors appointments, dmv, bank, store, everywhere pretty much. Ppl need to not be so petty and easy and quick to complain. This doctor is amazing and you would see for yourself when you meet her and her staff
Be afraid....be very very afraid! If you question or ask for an actual examination.... you will get “the letter”. She totally missed an ex-ray result and I made the mistake of calling her out on it. I told her twice what it was, but she ignored me. On top everything that is wrong with my back , you can add scoliosis to it. Her nurse then called and said that I had morphine in my test!! That is a lie and ridiculous. I am allergic to to morphine to begin with and where would I have even got it from? I tried to get the actual results but I couldn’t. Not even from the testing sight itself. As soon as I can find another doctor to help me, I really think that she should be brought before the board. She actually told me that for her to do any more for me or my pain, I needed to develop cancer.
If I could leave “0” stars I would. Staff is rude, dr is rude and she shows no compassion for you as a person or a patient. You wait for hours in waiting room and then get rushed through. I was fired as a pt because my urine came back negative like I wasn’t talking my meds. She accused me of selling my medication!! I was horrified!! I couldn’t make it through the day without them. It was discovered that the lab was in error and the results were corrected. However, she said she still couldn’t believe if the lab was correct. 2nd urine test confirmed I was indeed taking my meds as instructed. She still fired me from her practice. I have never been treated so poorly. In the long run, it was a blessing because I am seeing a much better dr now who truly cares about me and treating my debilitating disease. Please look elsewhere for a your pain management.
Why does her staff feel the need to be rude to patients.? I was surprised when the answering machine said not to leave the same message twice. The next week, when my call was not returned, I understood. I was threatened by a staff member who said if I did not agree that I had failed to answer my phone (I held up my phone to show I hadn't been called) that she would cancel my appointment after I waited over an hour. This is not a good place. No real examinations. Be careful here. No stars
The Doctor & staffs are so PHONY & RUDE. The doctor always believes her staffs & goes by whatever her staffs tells her about every Patients, so your complaints will do no good! They make Patients wait & wait for hours, holly the nurse talks so loud, so rude to people over the phone, slams the phone, and you can hear her talking about Patients informations.. sounds like HIPAA regulations! The point is , they’re BACKSTABBERS / PHONY
Get in pretty quick, like any other Dr.'s Office... There will be times where another patient goes over a bit. But that's OK- because I know when it's my turn, time will be spent with me. Dr. Pennington is very Nice-Professional-A Good Listener, she genuinely seems to Care About her Patients. Always been treated respectfully. Would Highly Recommend her.
I have been very pleased by treatment by Dr. Pennington. There were problems with other pain management doctors in Virginia Beach but absolutely none with her. I am so glad I was referred to her.
She does not care about your condition or your pain. She treats statistics not the patient. This woman is absolutely unbearable as a doctor. Don’t go to her!!

Couldn't seem to understand why i was questioning this. Corona virus doesnt care whether i am a new or established patient. Woman on the phone was over bearing and rude. cut me off 4 times when i tried to speak and finally i told them just to push the appointment the 2 weeks. got a call the next day to tell me they don't tolerate "staff abuse" and refused to see me. my 14 year old was sitting next to me during the first call, nothing was said that would constitute abuse. i guess the office manager that was rescheduling my appointment didnt like that i asked for her to let me finish speaking and when i told her i didnt appreciate the way she was speaking to me. finally told them i dont want to see a doctor that allows her staff to be rude to someone just because they didn't like my questions.

So frustrated with this doctor! There is absolutely no way to get a live person to answer the phone at any time! You get an "office is now closed" recording at any time of day. My husband actually went to her office in the middle of the day because I had left several messages on the 202 extension asking for a call back and never got one. The woman at the front desk said they had never received a message from someone with my name. Funny, after he left, I got a call back. Although, the woman that called me could do nothing for me. "Have a nice day." Dr. Pennington, if you're reading this, you are in no way "managing" my pain! I'm seriously thinking about making an official complaint about you! I agree with a lot of the comments here that you are a very nice lady, but if this is just your staff doing these things and acting this way on their own, then you need to get a grip and take control of your office! OFFICE IS CLOSED - 24/7! Not good for people suffering from chronic pain
Scheduling is a nightmare. They never answer the phone or call you back. The front desk girl is not friendly and treats you like you are bothering her. Your waiting time is always close to two hours! I like the doctor.
Dr. Pennington is the most honest doctor I have ever seen. I was referred by a neurologist in hopes that she could help with my longstanding nerve pain. Dr. Pennington read my notes and said that my case was beyond her capabilities, and I would not be charged for the visit. She was very friendly and compassionate. I regret that I will not be her patient, but I am glad that she didn't give me false hope.
Deserves a ZERO. I have been waiting for this office for over a month. I originally stopped in after getting a referral. I was told they would call me. Two weeks after my insurance approved the visits I called. The lady on the phone said they had not received my referral. A week after that I left an email message and no reply. I just called today ( another week) at 10:30. Nobody answers the phone and a voice message states that they will return the call in 1-3 business days. How this place stays in business is beyond me. If you have a couple of months to wait and don't mind being ignored, then this is the doctor for you. If not, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. Look at the 2.3 star reviews and believe them! I moved and that is the reason I tried to use this office. I called my insurance company and changed the referral. I called that office and I received an appointment that is 6 days away. Now that is service.
Please be careful if you plan to visit this Dr’s office! I’ve been a patient of Dr Pennington for about a year or so and she has always seemed to be a caring Dr but everyone in the office has been very rude to me from the beginning. Ive been taking pain meds for 12 years for back pain. I’ve followed every rule on the paper that I received on my first visit. I recently had to call to change my appointment because I had to be out of town on the day of my appointment and needed to reschedule. When I returned and called again to try to get another appointment, I was told that because I missed my appointment, I owed a fee of $50 because I missed my appointment. When I explained that I had called 2 weeks before the appointment to reschedule because of needing to be out of town, the billing manager, ms Simms said “I have the transcript here and you never said you were canceling the appointment”. I knew at that point exactly what she was trying to do. I am now looking for another Dr.

It is hard to reach anyone in the office by phone. They do not return your calls. I have been trying to reach them as well as the pharmacy and the insurance copy since April 2nd to get prior authorization for my pain meds. It dont make any since to run an office the way they do....highly upset and disappointed.

I think that her and her staff are just nasty, bitter, straight men hating, b*s. She cut my husband off after his 1st visit. So what if he took pain meds from some months ago to relieve his severe back and arthritis pain. Thats why he came to you, genius. Even on the dam bottle it says to discard after a year. Tracy and her b* of a staff all know theyre not the Dr & staff of the "Pennington Womens Pain Ctr" So until they are, they need to check their dam attitudes & govern themselves accordingly

I have been a patient of Dr. Pennington’s since April of 2018, Her staff has always been very sweet to me, and Dr. Pennington is always kind and professional. She asks questions, and listens as well! Sometimes they are very busy, but always let me know if I am going to have to wait a bit. Pain management is not an exact science; sometimes $&@? happens and becomes emergent! They do their best to accommodate everybody!
I think that this doctor and her staff hates men. Because they basically dismissed my husband after his first visit. For taking medicine that he was prescribed a few months back. And medicine that wasn't even considered a narcotic. That he took sparingly. As he had no other way of controlling his pain. My husband and I both adore Dr. Pennington. He goes in with me every time because I have Parkinson's and Dementia......he remembers conversations with her that I occasionally have problems remembering. I'm not sure how long she has been my pain management specialist, but I THINK it has been three or four years. I am fussy and critical about my doctors, but she has exceeded all my expectations. I have ruptured discs in my lower back, for which I take mild meds and TENS unit. I use a back brace.
I love Dr. Pennington!! She is so nice and personable!! In fact, her whole staff is awesome, just like she is!! She takes good care of her patients and helps take the pain away!!

I am looking forward to meeting her,,I have had 2 drs in a row tell me to transfer to her,, So i am, also they graciously called me back when they were closed in 5 minutes after i left a message, for i wanted to see if i could move my appt up! Yes,, she said, i will be meeting her next week and will keep you posted,, I cant wait,, ps. if you have dr dean at evms for pain management,, run !!!

Since Jan 2016 has been my pain mgmt specialist. Wonderful personality,a person first, then the doctor title second. Light yrs ahead of my first PMS. It maybe be hectic in the office, but consider how many patients being treated. Always listens to my needs or next steps. Provide guidance. This is what I need from a doctor, who has become a friend and confidant. Her office is no worse than trying to get through the gate keepers at other doctors offices. But,her nurse does return calls. 5 stars..
Totally unorganized unable to handle amount of patients she has. Word of advice make sure your name is written on your sample for drug screening don't it leave your hand without your name. I am 47 and I've NEVER seen such incompetentcy at any Dr's practice. Please do yourself a favor and a lot of frustration find another dr. My average wait time was ALWAYS more than an hour sometimes almost 2. Too many patients not enough competent help. BE WARNED

I have to say that I've been to different pain mgmt Drs as I have a lot of chronic conditions I have to say that she is the first pain mgmt doctor that I have ran across that is even willing to halfway listen to what is going on with me and to try to get my pain under control. I've been in the medical field for over 22 yrs I have to say in my opinion she cares about her patients. I wish she would take more time with me as a patient to listen to my other issues and concerns about my pain.

Awful. I despise this woman. Shes doesn't care about her patients. She doesn't let you finish a sentence and she walks out of the room when her patients get distraught. What kind of doctor high tails it out of the room when her patient is stressed and overwhelmed and starts to cry? She didn't take the time to have a conversation with me with out interrupting every word i said. She then sends in her nurse to deal with me who is just as cold as she is. What if I was suicidal? Double books too.
Very POOR, I am a RN and know the difference between good and ridiculous. NEVER return phone calls. Wait WEEKS to try and get an appointment, even when it is a medical emergency. Promise to help with severe spinal pain,cleared by my insurance and kept delaying the shots,requested by 3 of my other Dr. By a demand letter.VERY POOR Dr. I am also reporting her to the Professional Board of medicine in Richmond Virginia. Total grief and stress. If this is what you want..by all means go to her.
