Fractured my shoulder in a ski accident. Went to Dr. O’Brien as a follow up from my North Conway hospital visit. First visit was ok, just went over hospital results. I asked him for an MRI. In the mean time I was to start PT (a bit premature, hasn’t been even a week since accident ) My follow up was to go over MRI results , fortunately I was able to see the results of my MRI prior to my visit. Dr. O’Brien came in, said my MRI results looked good and there were no tears. I was surprised he said that as the MRI said I had three tears, my rotator cuff, my bicep and my labrum. (Clearly he did not read the results). I told him I had read the results and saw there were tears. He quickly looked the results up on the computer screen and said “that is normal and they would not do surgery”, said to continue PT, no follow up appointment. My PT asked to look at the MRI results, only to point out that there was a second break as well as all the tears. Going for a second opinion. So disappointed

I would not let Dr. Obrien clean my kitty litter. He operated on my shoulder about 3 yrs ago, it is worse now than before the surgery. He acted as if there was nothing wrong with my shoulder, actually asked me if he did not do the surgery would I go somewhere else and I said yes he scheduled me for later that week big mistake on my part

In short, knowledgeable and honest. If he needs further data he will get it, e.g. a complex unusual fracture (will consult with the best in the world to make sure he is not biased and his and others opinions are all taken into account for a final call). REALLY cares about his patients and works hard to make sure you are well taken care of. I am extremely impressed of his lack of ego and only goal of providing the best for his patients.

Don't hesitate. Excellent PA also! My 5th total joint replacement, am at 120o with shoulder in PT. Apts. on time, quick & through. They take excellent care of patients. MGH Danvers is convenient & just a CATA Bus ride away if you don't have a car.

Dr.Obrien was great. Knew exactly the treatment plan for my shoulder, quick and efficient, every one on his care team was great sympathetic and knowledgeable.

Fantastic Surgeon. Performed should replacement surgery for me. Spent time explaining procedure and made me feel confident about the surgery and his ability and experience.

Dr. O’Brien is an incredible doctor, he has helped me three times, He is kind, courteous and very knowledgeable in his work. I would definitely recommend him to anyone. I admire him as an outstanding doctor, and with his head nurse at his side they make a fabulous team. Thank you, both, for your help and care.

I was referred to Dr. O’Brien after breaking a chunk of bone off my humerus in a motocross racing accident. I was in severe discomfort as the loose, jagged bone fragment was wedged up in an area it had no business being in. No matter how I positioned my body I was in agony. Dr. O’Brien was able to squeeze me in the same day I contacted his office. He then was able to schedule me for surgery within 72 hours. I was extremely impressed with his knowledge of shoulder injuries and his candid responses and explanations about the different surgical options available for my particular situation. Also very evident was the passion he has for his job and for helping his patients. I felt completely comfortable and confident in his abilities after our initial consultation. Surgery went extremely well and my discomfort post-op was minimal. Most impressive to me was the absence of significant swelling after a major surgical procedure. That alone showed me the precision with which he operates.

I had just gotten into a very bad car collision a week ago so I'm very scared about my foot. I came in to try to make an appointment with the receptionist at New England Ortho. I'm talking about the older lady with the glasses and short hair at the front. She did nothing but make me feel worse and feel like I wasn't going to be able to receive any help for my foot. Making me feel horrible about my health insurance and everything. I was soooo willing to put it all on my health insurance anyways and pay just because my foot hurts so badly. Thank god she's not a doctor cause her bed side is terrible. I ended up going to Sports Medicine North about my foot and they literally took me in THAT HOUR, gave me all my required x-rays and a boot. ALL WITHIN 2 HOURS. I would never reccomend coming here (New England) if you're looking for a good experience with your ortho. I'm sure their doctor is fine but from the looks of the patient waiting room, and how dead quiet it was compared to the constant flow of ongoing patients at Sports Medicine, New England is just not a good pick. Highly skilled Drs at this practice. Dr. O'brien did a fantastic fix on my shoulder. As a bonus he has a great sense of humor.

Dr. O'Brien is one of the most caring, knowledgeable doctors that I have ever seen. Having had a fall , resulting in a fractured shoulder, he immediately made me feel at ease with his calming demeanor and knowledge. His goal is for the perfect treatment plan for a speedy recovery and back to normal activities. Dr. O'Brien is one of the best doctors that I have ever seen. Years ago having had bilateral elbow fractures and numerous surgeries on both arms no doctor I have ever seen compares to Dr. O'Brien. His extensive knowledge of elbows and shoulders and treatment plan far exceeds any of your expectations. Most importantly, his caring, calmness bedside manner assures you that you are in the best of care and trust his judgment totally. I am so fortunate to have met him and thank God everyday for putting my care in his hands. Thank you Dr. O'Brien!

Very intense and Dr Todd spent valuable time with me explaining all my options. He actually called me at home to suggest I think about an MRI, which I have done and have decided to go ahead with it.

Great experience with a fabulous outcome. Staff is friendly. I had a shoulder replacement ten days ago. I can’t believe how I feel. I got two other opinions and I do grateful I went with Dr O’Brien. Thank you thank you

I'm in week 11 after some rotator cuff repair and I'm so excited to be feeling this good. During my last PT visit my range of motion was better than expected and my pain level is drastically better than before surgery. I believe the secret to my success is first of all choosing the right surgeon. But after that and nearly as important is following post op instructions thru PT and rehab, while protecting the repair as much as possible.

Dr Archibald and Dr O'Brien are the BEST!

Not sure I should post this as it could increase Dr. O’Brien’s rating/clientele, making it harder for me to see him if needed, but I’ll be mature about this. And honest. My PT recommended Dr. O’Brien when I partially tore my rotator cuff. After thoughtful consultation with Dr. O’Brien (and then fully tearing the cuff) it was time for surgery. Dr. O’Brien is respectful, kind, thorough, very smart, responsive, and has a wonderful sense of humor. He and his entire team were a pleasure to work with.

I have never met such a kind and compassionate doctor. I was sincerely impressed with his attentive bedside manner and was very pleased with actually finding a doctor that listens to what you have to say.

Nice down to earth Dr, kind of tells you how it is for what the Dr See's..My only problem is he told me to pick up a report of what he found after the progression of an injury i had a year before..And was not there after i made a special trip out of my way...Not a big deal, but still have not got what i needed yet with out making another trip back to see him...Great Dr, very easy to talk to..

I am a Physician Assistant and have assisted Dr. O'Brien in the operating room. He is a perfectionist and treats his patients like family. He would be the first Orthopedic Surgeon I would call if I had an issue, especially in the upper extremity. GREAT DOCTOR!!! I sent my Husband to him.

I had my shoulder replaced by Dr O'Brien a year ago. Prior to that if I went sailing for an afternoon it would hurt something awful. I went to PT and they gave me complete range of motion, as good as new. I skied 79 days last winter and I attribute that to giving me my strength back and developing the muscles again. I sailed this summer holding the main sheet and pushing and pulling the tiller with no pain. It is as good as new and a miracle.

Not sure why anybody would have anything bad to say about Dr. O'Brien ... He has always been sympathetic, and knowledgeable with everything I've had to deal with ... I would highly recommend him !!!

He botched my wife's knee surgery and she had to have it again by a much better doctor two months later. A lawyer claimed we had no malpractice case unfortunately since there's a high instance of failure with these surgeries. He's also an arrogant jerk when you ask him questions. Avoid this quack at all costs!!
