Dr. Thomas C Mcgee

Anyone with the autoimmune condition Lupus should not see Dr McGee. I was disappointed to be referred to him to treat my condition. I am from a different state and moved to Mobile to be with family. I've had Lupus for over 20 years. This is the first doctor who has questioned that I have pain from Lupus ie joint, bone, muscle pain. I've been treated for Lupus in my clavicle before and he said he's "never heard of that". As if it was make believe... In office, he said he'd refill my prescription for Tramodol. I called his office and his nurse says "He doesn't treat pain".... I had to change doctors which is a bit of a hassle. If I didn't have pain, Lupus wouldn't bother me and I wouldn't need to see a doctor! He's not upfront, so it's good he's not anyone's surgeon. ????

I write this review with great disappointment. I am truly baffled in the quality of care and lack of concern. Context: I've been experiencing chronic health issues from a young age, in the 1 1/2 years it has escalated to a severe point leading to 2 different hospitalizations. I'm on antibiotics every month or every other month due to some kind of infection. I have neurological issues/damage, chronic joint pain and gut issues among other things. I have seen dozens of doctors and healthcare professionals who all agree it's immune system related. For added context I am an autistic 23-year-old female with dyed hair. I have 15 different issues with my blood work, 4 related to my ANA factors. 1: I have issues with anxiety and communication, so I have a very detailed written medical history, symptom log, medication list and medication records, as well as copies of all my lab results. I do this so I can effectively communicate everything that's going on so my doctors can make the best decisions. Mcgee seemed to just skim over it and not actually take the time to read it, he confirmed this to me when he suggested that a recent course of Bactum was a possible cause of my neurological symptoms. This is physically not possible as I had been experiencing symptoms years before taking this course. I tried to correct him on this, but he ignored me. The appointment was very short (about 10 minutes), he only ordered a lupus panel. I can't help but feel that another doctor would've taken their time and ordered more tests. 2: My quality of life has drastically decreased over the past year and a half, I am unable to work full time, I am on antibiotics 8-10 times a year, I am always in pain, I can't exercise anymore and that used to be a huge part of my life. My parents who are in their 60s are more physically able than I am, asking my mom to open a jar for me or help me move something is horrible. Dr. Mcgee seemed completely unphased by this, showed no sympathy, no treatment plan, no care plan, not even a get better. He acted as if I was wasting his time. I saw no genuine level of concern. At one point he said "if this is the right path" referring to rheumatology related, every other doctor/ medical professional (double digits) agreed that this was likely immune system related. This part of the appointment was honestly the most baffling, I can't tell if he disregarded my patient history, and past doctors or if he didn't listen or read it. 3: He Showed a complete lack of concern for my health and quality of life, and financial situation. The lupus panel was listed to my insurance company as "investigative" not medically necessary, so I've been saddled with a lab bill that's over $1600. The only reason I saw Dr. Mcgee in the first place was due to it being deemed medically necessary by my other doctors. I am confused how he could disagree on this, is a deteriorating health, quality of life and opinions of other medical professional mean nothing to him? I am debilitated from my health, I was in the hospital for 4 days, I've got no savings left, I can't work full time, I already have a disability, how can anyone know this and saddle someone with a $1600 bill for something deemed medically necessary by literal everyone else? 4: I was told that my follow up appointment would be over the phone, this never happened before in 10 years of doctors visits. They scheduled a to call, but I never received a call. At around 4 pm I called them since the office was closing soon. I never spoke with him instead, I spoke with the front desk person who told me that my lupus panel was negative, no surprise, there's over 200 different connective tissue diseases. I asked what was next and she said she didn't know. 5: No access to labs results allowed, I question the legality of this. 6: I don't understand why my quality of care was so poor, with so many positive reviews, it feels like my experience is unique, and I can't help but wonder if it is because I'm young, autistic or female. I wouldn't even suggest it if the average review wasn't so high.

One of the most understandable and caring doctors I have. Amazing staff and nurses. Absolutely love this office and doctor.

Disagrees on medical urgency of multiple other doctors, and not concerned with quality of life. I am honestly baffled.

Best doctor ever!

Doctor McGee and his staff are fantastic

Dr McGee is one of the kindest and most professional doctors I have ever known. His staff is also very caring. Dr McGee goes over and above in caring for his patients. Highly recommend!

Dr McGee is a great Doctor. Always comes in with a smile and ready to listen. Staff is always very nice.

I have wanted to go back to Dr. McGee as my primary for years and it was just recently possible because of insurance and I was so very happy. He is very thorough and doesn’t treat you like you’re on an assembly line.

I was referred to him by my primary doctor. During the visit he was nice but very poor communicator. Does not take the time to explain his diagnosis. His after visit notes for me was just some boiler plate that essentially didn't say anything. Frustrating!

Dr Tom McGee has been my primary doctor for over 3 years and was my dad’s doctor before me. He has helped me understand and live with several health issues. He was also my husband’s doctor and helped us both with his cancer diagnosis twice. I really can’t say how much his support has meant in my life.

Dr. McGee is one of the best doctors I’ve ever been to. He really cares if you are hurting. He listens well and addresses concerns without rushing you.

Dr. McGee is very compassionate, caring and listens to all your concerns. He is not too proud to refer you to someone that could help answer questions, if he doesn't know the answer. You will not be disappointed in your visit with Dr. McGee.

Dr.Tom MaGee is Amazing. He is Courteous, Brilliant, Caring, Professional and a Great Diagnostician.I had 75% vision loss in one of my eyes suddenly. He was very determined to find out what had happened and also how to treat it. He did both and my vision has greatly been restored. I would recommend Dr. MaGee to everyone. ????

No. First visit, spent 15 minutes with me, and told me the diagnosis I’ve had for years is wrong. No further instructions, no treatment plan. Just no.

First visit, spent 5 minutes with me, checked nothing, had me go to the lab to get blood drawn, had to come in for a second visit checked nothing, just to told me the test said negative. Told me the diagnosis I’ve had for years is wrong, I asked did he look at my records and old labs with positive tests from my old doctor, he said no but there was nothing wrong with me and my old doctor was wrong, my joints were so inflamed that day I could barely walk and I had a fever. No further instructions, no treatment plan, told me he didn’t need to see me anymoore. Wasted $100 in copays. Just horrible. The office staff were friendly and helpful. Dr Mcgee was very nice. He listened to me and explained what my problem was. He was very helpful . this was a good experience. Thank you Dr Mcgee.

this doctor is not certified to treat fibromyalgia patients from what they said . I have both d.d.d and fibromyalgia looking for a more qualified doctor. I had one that was certified at both but he had to change practice for his sons health insurance benefit. It was nice having a doctor that knows how to help his patients. Apparently not all do. Update after going to this doctor I found that although doctors may not be certified for fibromyalgia this one was very helpful in relief of pain from the fibromyalgia and I will be returning to see him and would refer anyone with fibromyalgia pain to see him. this doctor is not certified to treat fibromyalgia patients from what they said . Dr. McGee ,Donna and staff are very thorough, kind and gracious to my wife. She has seen them for over five years.

Dr. Mcgee is a very caring compasionate doctor. He takes the time to listen to you and any problems or questions you have. Through his help my RA has been in remission for over 7 years. I am pleased with his whole staff. They are excellent. I would recommend him to anyone who needs a rheumatologist.

Dr. McGee is the best doctor that I've ever used. I started seeing him in 1992 when I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis at only 31 years old. He takes time with his patients, not just for medical diagnosis but to also have a better understanding of the lifestyle and how he treatments will allow you to maintain that lifestyle.

I have been seeing Dr. Mc Gee since 2005 . He diagnosed my Fibromyalgia and able to get me regulated with the right medications and physical therapy that I have been able to continue in my activities today . He also helped with my Osteoarthritis.
