if you don't speak English don't go here they do not provide a translator or any type of help for patients who do not speak the language. I WOULD GIVE IT NO STARS!!!

Most condescending, dismissive dr. I have seen, and I have seen some Terrible doctors. He listened to none of my concerns, had no plan for care, continued referring to one single test that "didn't show enough" and saying how long he has been doing this for. Spoke to me as if I was a child who had no idea how a body worked, let alone how my own pain, trauma, and failed treatments that I have tried were within my cognitive grasp. I will be looking for another neurosurgeon to speak with for certain. If you want a doctor that listens to you, do NOT go here.

This was honestly the worst doctor's appointment I've ever had. First - getting scheduled was a nightmare, resulting in months-long delay. When calling to confirm, they shifted the appointment time last-minute. When I arrived, the woman behind the front desk was not wearing a mask (despite COVID-19 advisory), and hurried to put one on as I came in. I should have walked out, at that point - but having waited months for a consult, I was desperate. I was the only person in the office, and had pre-filled my forms, but was kept waiting until my original appointment time. When Dr Mampalam called me back, he was wearing a visibly dirty lab coat, and appeared to have uncrumpled his mask from a pocket. He rapid-fired basic questions (which I had already answered on the intake forms), without asking why I was actually visiting. He performed basic reflex tests, without inquiring as to impairments, symptoms, or level of pain. When I attempted to share information regarding the reason for my visit, he continuously interrupted. Without any acknowledgement or follow-up questions, he told me that (according to his review of exactly one MRI), I am not a candidate for treatment - despite 8 years of documentation indicating otherwise. He recommended only physical therapy and narcotics (which are actually not advised for nerve pain). He was extremely rude and dismissive. When I asked him to confirm that this was his best advice - narcotics or physical therapy - he interrupted to tell me "most people would consider this good news" (as if I should be grateful) and then ended the visit. Overall, I spent less than 9 minutes in his presence - less than one minute for every month I waited for a consultation! - and this was far too long. Dr Mampalam obviously doesn't care about his patients or their health. **Update** I also received a bill for $340 for this visit, of less than ten minutes, with no treatment offered or usable advice given. Dr. Mampalam did my back surgery in 2000 and it was a total success. He has a terrible bedside manner but is an excellent surgeon. I'll take professional excellence over personal shortcomings anytime. If you want someone to hold your hand and be nice and sweet to you, he's not your guy. If you want someone who can perform a successful delicate surgery well, he's your guy. I"d go to him again in a heartbeat if I needed to. This was the worst Dr visit I've ever had. Staff were not wearing masks when I entered (despite COVID-19). The Dr looked like he pulled his mask from his pocket - and was wearing a dirty lab coat. He asked no questions about the reason for my visit, symptoms, pain, or impairment - simply performed a reflex test and told me I was "fine" and "should consider it good news" that he doesn't recommend surgery. He recommended physical therapy and narcotics (despite 8 years of non-response to physical therapy, facet joint ablation, and diagnosis of bulging discs, nerve damage, and a spinal tumor. Also, narcotics don't treat nerve pain!). He was extremely rude and dismissive. The entire appointment (after months of waiting for a consult) lasted less then 9 minutes. Completely awful.

Doesn't care about a patient if he doesn't get the profit from them! I swear California doctor's don't care!!

I think overall I've had a very good experience. Explanation of my problem. What needs to happen to correct the issue. The staff are all very friendly, willingness to help get other needed visits like physical therapy, etc.

this was the WORST DR I’ve ever seen. No care in his heart, wouldn’t even look me in the eyes when talking to me, put words in my mouth. Didn’t want to do further investigation to see what the problem is or help to seek treatment. I can go on and on. If you want more from me, just ask privately through email. But HIGHLY RECOMMEND you search for another Back Surgeon for your needs, I wouldn’t trust him with a scalpel. Saw Dr Mampalam for a UNUM disability eval. He never asked me to describe the problem I was having. Just went straight to his nerve evaluation. I have had a ruptured disc and had three surgeries for that, but my current problem is my back with only occasional nerve pain. There was no thought given to my severe back pain and how it prevents me from working. Only the evaluation of nerve signals. His conclusion, no nerve signal issue, therefore no problem, your ready for full time work. I tried to tell him about the fact the stress causes my back to tighten up and leads to muscle spasms which can be severe if I don't stop working. He didn't even acknowledge my words. Dr. Mampalam trimmed the discs in my lower back about 20 years ago, and I have not had any issues since (with that part of my anatomy, anyway). Great surgeon!
