Dr. King performed knee replacement surgery on my left knee in December 2012 and replacement on my right knee on 4/27/22. On the 12/12 surgery, I was on the golf course in 7 weeks. As I am now in my fourth week of recovery from the recent surgery, I am looking forward to teeing it up in six weeks! Great doc and great staff.

I had total knee replacement surgery on April 13,2022. The results were excellent. Dr. King & his staff educate & inform you about the procedure. His office will schedule laboratory testing & a medical clearance visit with your Primary Care Doctor. Home Physical Therapy will contact you prior to surgery. The CPM machine will be delivered the day before the surgery. Preoperative medication will be prescript & information is given about what to expect your first four days at home & your medication schedule. Portsmouth Regional Hospital offers a Joint Replacement Pre-Operative Class. It is online due to Covid. The dedication & hard work of the team enables the patient to reach her best potential. Physical Therapy is important as you continue to recover from the total knee replacement. Susan Kline

I had a total knee replacement in Jan/22 I could not be happier with the outcome. I'm way ahead of my rehab/range of motion which is 120/climbing stairs. My PT person in RI was very impressed with the surgery as well as there was very little swelling. I would highly recommend Dr.King. His staff was excellent and always responded to my questions My surgery was at at 6:30am & I was up walking around by 11:00am and had me walking & climbing stairs. I was on my way back home to RI around noon the same day. They sent me home with a CPM/machine. The CPM does work with the range of motion. The AVATAR same day surgery worked for me.

I had a total knee replacement done by Dr. King in February, 2022. I am amazed at how quickly I am healing. At 3 weeks post-op I am able to do stairs normally and walk as much as I'd like although PT will continue until everything is perfect. Dr. King and his entire team have been wonderful to me as everything is explained very clearly, any and all questions are answered, and every team member is totally focused on my full recovery. I highly recommend Dr. King for joint replacement. He is the best!

Dr. King performed a total knee replacement for me and I couldn't be happier with the experience or the result. I am 66 years old. I had a valgus knee where my leg angled off 30% outward (it's now straight). After researching possible orthopedic surgeons, I narrowed it down to Dr. King and one other. I went to the other doctor first and, even though that doctor performs 250 knee replacements a year, decided mine was too complex for him and he declined to do mine. I then went to see Dr. King and am glad I did. He said they could replace the knee and straighten my leg. He expressed no hesitation. Dr. King does day surgery. Thus, I was at the hospital from about 10 a.m. to about 6 pm and then home. At the hospital, I was walking around hours after surgery (with a walker) and even trained on climbing stairs. 3 wks post surgery, I walk 1-2 miles per day without a cane and can drive. Excellent results. Can't recommend Dr. King highly enough. Be sure to use the CPM machine he recommends.

Dr. King encourages his patients to use a CPM (continuous passive motion machine) on your leg starting at the hospital and then for two weeks at home. 16 hours per day. The cost of the machine rental was about $170 per week plus a one time charge from the rental company for a throw away pad. My insurance did not cover the expense but I encourage you not to skip the machine. Dr. King advised that if I did everything he asked for two weeks, I would be pretty good in two weeks. I found, contrary to my expectations, that I could easily sleep while the CPM machine exercised my leg from minus 5 degrees to 120 degrees in slow 2 min. cycles. Thus, 8 of the 16 hours can be overnight while sleeping. I spread the other 8 hrs out over the day with a plan to read as the machine operated but often fell asleep even after having had 8 or more hrs of sleep. In addition to the machine, Dr. King prescribes in home PT followed by about 6 wks of out patient PT. In between, the PT gave me exercises to do. I took 2 full weeks off from work and religiously followed all the doctor's instructions, used the CPM machine 16 hrs a day, did my PT. So, here's my personal experience. Your experience may be different. I had no pain the day of surgery. Some mild pain the day after the surgery (maybe a high of 4 out of 10) that was easily controlled with pain meds. That was the last day I felt any real pain (other than during PT). I sometimes would have what I would call soreness or awareness that my knee was recovering. Sometimes if I twisted my leg in the wrong way, I would feel a second of pain but that would immediately stop. By the 2nd day post surgery, I stopped using Oxi and took ibuprofen, aspirin, Tylenol, Tramadol, and vitamin C. After a week, I dropped the Tramadol and only use Tylenol as needed. I am (3 weeks post surgery) continuing to take the ibuprofen (but not consistently) and aspirin (as anti-blood-clotting). At home, I used a walker for the 1st day or 2 and for getting to the bathroom at night in the dark. The in home PT, then taught me to use a cane and I used that pretty exclusively about 4-5 days post surgery. Soon thereafter, I stopped using the cane. At 3 weeks out, I am now easily walking 1 to 2 miles per day and I can safely drive. I don't feel any pain walking but then will put some ice on my knee in the evening to make sure the knee doesn't swell too much. Yesterday, at PT my range of motion was measured at 130 degrees and the PT was confident I would get to 135. My wife and I are going to buy electric bikes this weekend and start biking (with combination of self-propulsion with electric assist as needed. Dr. King and his team (and it is a team of people that get you through this) were all wonderful and know what they are doing. I highly recommend him/them. He is both skillful and personable as were everyone I've worked with. My progress is ahead of other people I've known who have gone through knee replacement surgery with other doctors. In fact, my mobility was better a few days after surgery than some of my friends at 4-6 weeks. Again, everyone's experience may be different but this is mine. If you want a knee replacement, Dr. King of Po

Dr. King performed a total knee replacement for me. The surgery was something I had expected for many years, but I was still surprised at how smoothly it went. I was walking within hours of the surgery, and my recovery has been rapid. It was unusual having surgery during the pandemic, but Dr. King's team did a fantastic job. While I certainly hope I never have to have this sort of surgery again, if needed I would absolutely return to Dr. King.

Total knee replacement on January 20th. I have 130 degree range of motion within 3 weeks, and have had little need for opioid painkillers! Couldn't be happier with the surgery and at this point, the results. Recommend Dr. King without reservation!

i had two total knee replacements by Dr King. One in Feb of 2019 and 5 weeks later. This was the best thing I ever did, having my knees replaced and using Dr King. From the very beginning he and his staff were so caring. The hospital staff that he uses all the time were over the top caring and concerned. My knees are great, I am back hiking and biking again and doing the things I have not been able to do. I was 70 at the time of surgery with no health issues prior. I feel my good outcome was because i used Dr King compared to my friends outcome.

I had two knee replacements in the spring of 2020. The Doctor and his staff explained all parts of my surgery so there were no surprises. After surgery I had in home care that eased my transition into recovery. If I had a problem or a question they were only a phone call away I would highly recommend Dr King and his staff to anyone.

I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. King as a surgeon to go to if you are in need of a knee replacement. My recovery time was well beyond expectations, based on feedback from a couple of different physical therapists and also friends who had undergone a similar surgery with a different surgeon. I obtained full range of motion within just a few weeks and just six weeks after surgery I am able to easily walk a couple of miles. The CPM machine that Dr. King uses, as well as the regime for pain management are both cutting edge. I highly recommend consultation with Dr. King prior to scheduling surgery with any other surgeon.

I had a total knee replacement on March 9th and went home the same day. The pain management that he prescribed was quite effective. From pre-op to post-op, I felt that I was hand held the whole way, from his office staff to his surgical team, his physician assistants and physical therapist. I can’t say enough about Dr. King. He has perfected quite a system over the years.

Dr King and his team are dedicated to perfecting their skills and your outcome. They are constantly reviewing and tweaking their procedures, always improving. And it pays off for us patients! Dr. King had replaced my right knee 7 years ago and he replaced my left knee 3 weeks ago. The changes in the procedure and my results are stunning. Changes to anesthesia, pain control, immediate PT have all put me way ahead of the curve in comparison to my previous experience. I'm able to do things at 3 weeks that took 2 months to achieve last time. I drive from Lakes Region NH to Portsmouth to work with this team....because they are that good.

Dr. King was performed two total knee replacements on me in the last seven weeks. I couldn't be more pleased with the results! Based on others that I have seen at PT, Dr. King's process and Rapid Recovery is the only way to go. I'm weeks, if not months, ahead of others who have had the same surgery. I'm three weeks post surgery of the second knee and have full range of motion in both, with zero pain and getting close to jogging again. I also need to give a shout out to his entire team and office staff who made the entire process really easy and added a bunch of support throughout the journey. Five stars to all!!!

Dr King has replaced both my right knee and my left knee - 5 1/2 years apart - it's amazing the progress that has been made in those 5 1/2 years! The Avatar program is the BEST ! I arrived at the hospital for my left knee surgery at 5:30am and was home by 5:30pM - minimal meds - great aggressive PT and I am now only 5 weeks out and doing extremely well - I walk normal although a little slow - can do stairs and have my straightening to almost zero and my bend at 123 ! I am very pleased and highly recommend this practice.

Overall, Dr. King's preparation, performance, and demeanor were highly excellent. After visiting several surgeons and non-surgical orthopedists regarding my spent knee, I came to Dr. King who with his assistants gave clear explanations of procedures and answered my questions patiently, politely, and personably. The prep, surgery, and recovery went very smoothy with very little pain, and I was back to full-time work within a few weeks. Three specific features of Dr. King's approach are invaluable: 1. Using minimal addictive opiates; instead his staff create a pain relief schedule using ibuprofen, aspirin, and acetaminophen that really works. (Have a partner help you do the meds on schedule.) 2. Shorten stay in hospital. I had a spinal and within hours of completion of the surgery, I walked up and down stairs with the assistance and instruction of Occupational Therapists. 3. Dr. King sent me home soon after on the same day with a machine that flexed the knee constantly.Use it!!!

Great...he and his staff were helpful answering questions and making me very comfortable! I recovered from knee surgery quickly and attribute it to the quality of their work and the CPM equipment! The only bad experience I had was with the spinal block...very painful. I also found the detox from the drugs stronger than I expected but it only lasted a morning!

I recently had a Total Hip Replacement-right done by Dr. King and his team at Portsmouth Hospital. I am now 3 weeks post surgery and everything is great! I was part of his Avatar program, where the surgery was done in the morning and I was home later that day, and the whole program/process was just amazing. I would highly recommend Dr. King and his whole team (Kathy, Dustin, and others) to anyone experiencing hip pain or issues, their professionalism is second to none, and the results speaks for itself!

I had visited a couple of surgeons before opting for Dr. King and it was the best move ever. I was so impressed with the whole team he has, front and back office, nurses, PT's and the surgical team. I was up and around the same day. No extra pain meds needed. I was very informed during the whole process. Thank you so much everyone.

Dr. King and his Team are are an extremely skilled and compassionate group of medical professionals. I've had three joint replacements done by them (one hip in 2005 and and both knees (2018 and 2019). They quickly and effectively addressed any questions and/or concerns I had. I followed their protocols for pain management and PT and have had excellent results. I can now golf without knee pain and without having to wear a knee brace. 5 stars aren't enough to describe how great they are!

I was in a lot of pain in both of my knees since I no longer had any cartilage left. I had several cortizone shots and a series of 3 shots that were supposed to give me some relief. My Dr. at the time wanted me to wait 10 years to get replacements. People, even strangers saw that I was having a hard time walking and getting by day to day. Several people mentioned Dr. King to me. My husband and I set up an appointment to meet with him. After speaking with him both of us walked out of his office and knew he was going to be the one to give me new knees. I had me right knee replaced in 2017 and just had my left replaced in January 2019. Both experiences were great for me. The staff was good and helpful, the PT (in home and out patient) was great, and being able to come home right after surgery was the best recovery I could have had. I am so happy with the outcome so far and that I am relieved of the constant pain I was in. I have and would definitely recommend Dr. King to others.

I had a knee replacement performed by Dr. King. The experience has been amazing. Dr. King and his entire staff took all the time needed to explain everything and answer all my questions. His protocol of performing as an outpatient meant I was in my own bed the same day which was great. Working with the CPM machine has given me amazing early results. Absolutely recommend him.
