Dr. Thomas John Cartolano

Dr. Cartolano is one of the best Trauma Surgeons I know.

I was taken to the emergency room at Christ on March 8 of this year due to a gunshot wound. Dr. Cartolano was my surgeon. During the time he assessed the wound. He made comments suggesting I shouldn't have been in the area where the shooting took place, and then accused me of buying drugs in said area. Also implying I was heavily self medicated because I said I was in no pain when he asked me of my pain scale. I left that day with the bullet still inside of me because I felt like he was degrading my integrity and I didn't want a surgeon who thought I was a dope addict operating on me. I made other appointments at the trauma center for it to be taken out. The day of my surgery, in the middle of my operation He walked in the room, without knocking, and his first statement again was and I quote, "well I told you you shouldnt have been in the city buying drugs" I sat up in utter disbelief. And told him he has no right to make assumptions like that, including the ones he made at the emergency room a month prior. He continued by ignoring what I said and stated the police told him what had happened, which is not true. I asked him to leave the room because at that point I felt uncomfortable and he refused stating he was the supervising surgeon and needed to be theres, which again I felt to be a lie becaUse before he walked in they had already started the procedure. no where on the police report does it involve drugs or anything of the sort. My fiance and two other doctors (the ones actually doing the operation) were in the room. I completely feel like my confidentiality rights were violated and felt completely degraded. This is not how doctors should treat their patients I have the right to be respected. Had he just come into the room to supervise, as he stated he was there for, there would of been no problem. But under no circumstances should he throw assumptions like that around During a visit unless it was just me and him there. I hope this is taken seriously because this is someone people trust with their lives, unless he has facts on the situation he shouldn't be tainting the minds of other doctor and my fiance with a biased assumption. I would like to be contacted back with even just an apology from dr cartolano or that the situation will be handled. I shouldn't have to defend my integrity at a follow up visit. Dr Cartolano violated my confidentiality rights and degraded my integrity. Made false assumptions with no facts, and accused me of being on heavy drugs during my emergency room visit and follow up visit. WORST EXPEIRENCE EVER. RUDE. UNPROFESSIONAL.
