Horrible. He didn't care for my mom issues at all. He didn't even listen to my mom's problems. He just said if she want a surgery, come to me

Dr. Soo's experience, skill and bedside manner are professional and second to none.

Horrible. Truth be told. He didn't care for my issues at all. Used profanity to me in front of staff member 9 months of his neglect. I have major issues. Possible coccyx fracture, big ruptured disk. L3-4. Went to another doc this week. What a difference. Due yourself a favor avoid this man. He also has a bad reputation with doctors east of Providence hospital Northeast as well. Because he didn't include sacral,coccyx end on mri I get to go thru MRI again next week.

Dr. Soo was amazing. He listened to my concerns and treated me with compassion and care. From first appointment to surgery and finally on the way to recovery was less than 30 days. After 9 years 4 previous surgeons denying to do surgery do to my age, multiple spinal injections, physical therapy, and a cane I can say I've never felt better. I had L5-S1 spinal fusion. Dr. Soo called to check on me through recovery and I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Soo is dedicated and devoted. He is the best at what he does and is extremely knowledgeable about neurosurgery. He even found the cancer on my face! Thank you Dr. Soo for everything you have done for me! I highly recommend you to everyone!

Dr. Soo is such an amazing neurosurgeon. I injured myself as a young man in the military and I’ve had a long history of dealing with neurosurgeons. If it were not for his skills and compassion I don’t know where I would be, most likely in a wheelchair. Trust is huge for me and to to give a doctor 100% of my trust not easy. Dr. Soo has treated me for 10 years and I have 100% confident in his skills. His compassion for his patience is unparalleled to others. I’ve directed people to his office was very positive outcomes. His qualifications and intellect are not worn on his sleeve with arrogance but rather compassion. I trust this doctor with my life and the outcome of any surgical intervention 100%!

My step father was told years ago (by other doctors)that spine surgery wouldn't help him and he would be on pain meds forever. Dr. Teck Soo fused 1 level in the lumbar spine about 8 years ago. He's been pain free in that area since. He quit his years of oxy use cold turkey. Those were some great results. Thank you Dr. Soo.

My pain was diagnosed as back related and physical therapy was prescribed. After numerous sessions, there was only short term relief which disappeared when I did any strenuous exercise. I fortunately found Dr. Soo and was diagnosed as having an SI joint problem, in need of surgery to fuse the joint. I was concerned about the the extent of rehab and recovery time. Dr. Soo told me that with his proprietary technique, I would walk out of the hospital the same day and only had to minimize stress on the joint for 3 months and the fusion would be complete in 6 months. Dr. Soo performed a spinal fusion on me in 2019, at the time he said I would need an additional surgery on my SI joint. Here we are in 2022 and I am more than over due for that surgery. I enjoy Dr. Soo and I trust him and his team implicitly. Others I have known who have had spinal surgery have had to return for additional surgery to correct issues within just a couple of years. This is not the case with Dr. Soo. I would recommend him and his team to everyone. My one issue is that I had a lot of questions when I met with him and I didn’t get to ask any of them. He seems to have one foot out the door as soon as he walks in. I wish I had more time with him to answer my questions and show me my X-rays and explain the issue. On one of the forms I signed I agreed that part of the patient’s job is to ask questions and be involved in the process. Still, I wouldn’t trust my spine with anyone else. He has a proven track record and the self confidence to get the job done. Also, I wish he would perform surgery at the Novi location. My aftercare care at Southfield left a lot to be desired but I will go where he is at. Dr. Soo and his team are the best! I had spinal fusion in 2019 and at that time he said I would need an additional surgery on my SI Joint. Well, it’s 2022 and that time has come. Dr. Soo and his team are the best out there. I wouldn’t trust my spine to anyone else. I would have liked to ask some questions but he was already out the door. Oh well, I have all the confidence in the world in him and I enjoy him and he has a great sense of humor. He has a proven track record and the confidence. He is not going to coddle you but he will do right by you.

This all started around July of 2021, I was about 20 weeks pregnant with my second child. This pain, I've never experienced anything like it before, sharp, stabbing, numbness and tingling nerve pain that started at my neck and back that went down my left arm. I've delt with this pain the rest of my pregnancy because there is literally nothing anyone can do because I was pregnant. There we're nights I would cry myself to sleep, I missed work because the pain was so bad, I wasn't eating properly because of the pain as well. My primary doctor, bless his heart and his wonderful team of doctors worked tirelessly to help find a solution after I gave birth to my amazing son Cody born 12/5/21. I finally at this point am able to figure out what is going on and what was causing all of this horrible pain that I was experiencing. I get an EMG done, no nerve damage thank God. Then I have to do an MRI then I get a personal phone call from my primary doctor telling me to go to the ER immediately! Long story short after 3 biopsys and 3 trips to 3 different Beaumont hospitals they find a tumor on my spine my T1 vertebrae the tumor is not cancer so now we have to figure out which doctor is going to be the best person for the job, who is going to be able and willing somebody that has done this before. My doctor tells me to look up doctor Teck Soo, he tells me this is the guy that is going to be able to do the surgery and have great results. I mean when I say this doctor is so brilliant and very caring for his patients. I've never met anyone so confident in his ability to get this surgery done and do it so well. I have no pain! He got the whole tumor out which come to find out after a 7 hour surgery was wrapped around my spine. I just want to say thank you doctor Teck Soo and to the whole Ascension Providence surgical team and hospital staff for everything. I feel amazing I still have numbness, weakness and tingling in my left hand which Dr. Teck Soo said will take time to completely heal but other than that I feel great. I've had many injuries over my life (auto, sports, work, home ect.) Which has led to multiple spine surgeries. Dr. Soo has performed a Lumbar Fusion, right SI Joint Fusion, and just recently a C4 thru C7 neck fusion on me. I can't thank him enough for fixing these issues and giving me a the ability to have a good quality of life moving forward. He has an unprecedented skill and a genuine care for a positive outcome for his patients. When examining you, he fully explains what problems he has found and how he can help you. Dr. Soo not only explains the recovery process but also how best to move forward with work and life to minimize future problems and moving forward with a positive mental approach. Dr Soo is a great Dr. Specializing in severe cases with great outcomes. I would recommend him to anyone who needs surgery, or who has had failed previous surgeries with little or no help or continued success. I had three previous back surgeries with very little success. Dr Soo has improved on my quality of life tremendously. My only drawback to my surgery was, the pain meds were not effective medications directly after the surgery. I highly recommend Dr Soo

I went to see dr soo March 28, 2022 I have several collapsed disks in my lower back L4,5,S1 dealing with the pain since the pandemic can’t feel below the knees down . Dr.Soo used analogies that made me feel like he thought I was lying about the pain because I could still walk… Dr. soo told me he couldn’t help me because my surgery would only be a 50/50 odds and he liked better odds than that .. gave me know other options or solutions to deal with my pain or back issue. My husband asked about a chiropractor Dr. Soo said you can try that monbo jumbo if you want but again didn’t offer any other alternatives. Dr. Soo devastated me! He gave me absolutely No hope just said I can’t help you Period! How is that compassionate? My disks just going to grow back?? As a dr I would think alternatives , solutions , options would be in the curriculum as a dr especially a specialist giving No hope to a patient at the age of 55 could be beyond repair for most ! This review/referral is LONG overdue.... My name is Dale Long (65 years old), and I was lucky, and blessed, to be a patient to Dr. Teck Mun Soo. In late June of 2020, I was involved in a golf cart accident. My Lumbar 1 vertebra was 65% crushed. Emergency spine surgery was done on July 1, 2020. I was up walking (gingerly and slowly) the next day! The "good doctor" had fused my Thoracic 12, L1, and & L2 vertebrae with bone cement and 2 rods and 4 screws. It been over 17 months since my accident, and I am back in the gym, playing golf, bowling, and doing things without any issues. In December of 2021, and at the doctor's recommendation, the hardware was removed from my spine. He performed that surgery, as well. I am recovering nicely, and would STRONGLY recommend him to anyone who is looking to have any type of spine surgery done. I call him my "Miracle Man", and as stated above was LUCKY and BLESSED to have him do my surgeries.

Dr. Soo completed my Cervical Spine Fusion in 2006, he is an Excellent Surgeon. He also has a wonderful sense of humor, which helps to relieve patients anxiety about their health situation!!

"AMAZING"! If I had to describe Dr. Soo in one word Amazing would be it. I'm 64 and hurt my lower back when I was 21, off and on it would hurt. My family doctor wanted to prescribe pain meds but I was also told to try a Chiropractor so I did both and never got relief. Later in life they did facet injection and then cortisone which did offer relief but only for awhile. A couple years ago, summer "19" I was in an accident that created a whole new issue with my back, the Si joint. So now I have the old injury and the new one and was constantly in pain. I saw two doctor's, one a family doctor and another was a pain management doctor. Both told me to avoid surgery at all costs not to mention non doctors (friends & family) telling me the same thing, avoid surgery! I'm the one that was living in constant pain so I asked my fiancé if she could get a recommendation as she is an RN and also an director at one of the larger hospital in SE MI. She gave me Dr. Soo's name so I looked him up and made an appointment. He has a very efficient and friendly office staff was the first thing I noticed. I found Dr. Soo to be a very kind man and tells it like it is but very thorough so when he says he'll fix you, he means it. I had an L5, L4 & S1 fusion and that was successful however I still needed an Si fusion from the new injury, that was out patient surgery. I am now 1 month out of the Si surgery and I'm very excited about being fully healed because I'm already almost pain free and probably would be 100 % pain free if I listened to Dr. Soo and rested more but x-rays show I'm healing fine. I had a microdiscectomy at L4/5 recently. After 6 months of terrible pain I felt immediate relief right after surgery. 4 weeks later I am feeling good! Would highly recommend Dr. Soo! He made me feel very comfortable and he did a wonderful job. I would definitely see him again for any other spine issues in the future. Great sense of humor too which I loved! Dr. Soo is God gifted. A blessing to anyone considering surgery. I had an S-1 , L-5 spinal fusion on May 7th 2021. I wish I would have been introduced to Dr. Soo earlier. It would have saved years of needless procedures and pain. It will be a sad day , the day that he retires !

Dr. Soo is very skilled surgeon. I had spinal fusion surgery performed 5 weeks ago. Surgery is always a scary journey but Dr. Soo was very compassionate and answered all my questions and concerns pre surgery as well as post surgery. He is very passionate about his work and the outcome of the surgeries for his patients. He is up front and doesn’t sugar coat any of the details. My surgery was successful and has improved my quality of life even in the short period of time. I can stand tall and the pain, numbness and burning has all left. So happy to have seen Dr. Soo. I have degenerative disc disease and experienced a 2 month bout of pain and numbness from my neck down my right arm. Even though I have seen significant improvement, I was told by another doctor that I needed a Foraminotomy asap or I would lose function in both arms due to my nerve dying due to being pinched and that there are no other options. I came to Dr. Soo for a 2nd opinion and he assured me that I in fact do NOT need surgery, my nerve is not dying, and since I'm seeing such improvement with pain there was really no need for me to have even seen a neurosurgeon. He then explained to me what to look for if the pain comes back and at what point I need to come see him again for intervention if necessary. Thank God ????. Had I listened to that other doctor I would have unnecessarily undergone cervical spine surgery at 39 years old. Scary thought. In October 2005 Mr Soo gave me a C3/C4 and C4/C5 Fusion with 2 Titatunm disks, plate and screws and it was the biggest mistake of be my life it still hurts everyday and he scared me for life. After the surgery he even laughed and said my scar was big because I was so fat. Look at the X-ray does this look right. The first time I saw him about my pain/issue in less then 5 minutes he said my problem was "I had too many ribs" ??? I went to another Dr after a expensive set of x-rays and he said that was crazy. Because Mr Soo was the only in the Care Choice system he was the only Neurosurgeon in plan i could at that time I had to go back to him. One more note, on my first after surgery followup visit he took this X-ray and as I was leaving the exam room I saw it and asked if that was me, he said yes so I took out my phone and took a picture. He then started to give a hard time about taking a picture "why do you need that". I have shown this to many Dr's and they always shake thier heads and then go into Dr code, I see nothing. After 2 months it was still a mess and all he would do it give me more and more pain pills. Then his office would not call me back after many many calls. Do yourself a favor and let go of your negative thoughts about back surgery. Dr. Soo is best on the planet. After undergoing 6 back surgeries by 3 different surgeons across the U.S., finally I found Dr Soo. He actually fixed what several others just plained failed at.

On September 3, 2003, my husband suffered a near fatal car accident. He initially was taken to Botsford Hospital, but later transferred to Providence Hospital in Southfield due to extensive orthopedic-neurological injuries. Dr Soo, along with Dr Peter Bono performed 2 spinal surgeries. The first lastly approximately 12 hours and the second surgery lastly about 10 hours. To say the least this was a very serious and complicated surgery and my husband nearly died. His injuries were catastrophic. I have been at every appointment with my sister for her spinal fusion which was very involved about seven years ago. Dr. Teck Soo explained things carefully, took very good care of her, even came up into in the hospital room when something was bothering her and he found out that she was allergic to the tape and took care of it immediately. The follow up in his office was outstanding. She has had no problem with that over the last seven or so years. Now she needs a second surgery, we have met with him, gone through the process of therapeutic blocks that insurance demands. She will need an SI joint Fusion. The assistant in the office to care of all of the paperwork, got your scheduled as efficiently as possible. We hope this surgery will go just as smoothly as the first. Dr. Teck M. Soo saved my back. I am forever greatful for his expertise, I had a failed lamenectomy by another doctor and at one point couldn't even put pants on. My left leg was almost dead weight. Dr. Teck M. Soo fused my spine and I feel 10 years younger with the ability and mobility I have regained. God bless you sir!

Dr. Soo is really great. I have been his patient since 1999.. I had three different procedures performed by him. In 2000 when my first procedure was done I had a fast recovery and minimal pain from having LP shunt. Then in 2010 I fractured spine and had a spinal fusion done I was up and back walking and moving aroundmintg later. The very last time was August of 2021 and I couldn't see out of my left eye and terrible migraines with pain in my right arm and right side of my neck. When he came into my room the morning of my surgery, I had started completely losing my sight and he stated to me he could not promise me anything because it was very risky procedure. I said to him Itrust you with my life. After the surgery my sight has been fully restored and no more headaches. II could not thank him enough. He is hands down thy best. I am so very grateful for Dr. Soo! He is so very kind, caring and so very skilled. He removed a huge cyst from my spine. Prior to surgery I was unable to walk and I was in excruciating pain. First off I want to say Dr. Soo was so right and right now I feel and can move so much better than a year a go. Now the story - kinda long Last Oct I started falling - over all about 5 or so times before I was able to get surgery. The falls seemed to be from my left leg "giving out" and having no strength or feeling. I started PT right away and went to see Dr. Soo. He was able to diagnose it quickly but had to get verification via 2 joint injections into the SI joint. Needless to say the injections gave the appropriate reaction and surgery was scheduled for Feb 2021. I need to stop here and note that I was put on Norco in Oct and was on it throughout the surgery and recovery. This will become very important soon. I had my surgery and was in the WORST PAIN I have ever been in. It took 2 days post op recovery before I could leave the hospital and then the long road of pain and pills began at home. At my 3 Month Apt with Dr. Soo I brought up this concern and was kinda a jerk about it. Dr. Soo talked with me in a kind and professional manner. He explained to me that being on the Opioids so long my brain had changed and did not experience "pain" as i had before. I took this to heart and did some research on my own. At the end of the day I got off the Opioids and my pain dramatically decreased over a month. It was still a hard road but I let my emotions get in the way and was very unkind to Dr. Soo. He did the right thing and I want to thank him for the help he gave me to get back to my life. Bruce

Posting for my mom! This is my 6th surgery… but the first by Dr Soo. I walked out with no pain and he performed a complicated surgery to repair broken rods and took such care that 1 1/2 years later everything is holding up great!

I was 44 years old. It was April 2011when I hurt my back. I had 24/7 severe sciatica that went from my butt to my feet and Spinal Canal Stenosis. I had a failed surgery at Genesys. I was told by neurosurgeons at both Beaumont and Henry Ford that there was nothing they could do for me. After almost 3 years mostly bed ridden and on high levels of pain and nerve pills, I met Dr. Soo. Right from my initial appointment I knew he was different, special. He had a great demeaner and "Bed side manner" as well as a good sense of humor. He treated me and my wife with real empathy and concern for my situation . He said he believed he could fix me if i was willing to endure some test first. I was willing to try almost anything at this point. So I was relieved and excited to have a a Neurosurgeon of Dr. Soos caliber take interest in my case. He scheduled me for surgery on March 18th 2014. It was scheduled for 4 hours but lasted 7 hours. Dr. Soo said I had lots of scar tissue and he took his time removing it to be careful not to do more harm and to make sure he got all of it. To give me a better chance of getting back to my normal self. I now walk 3 miles 4 times a week. I am active and enjoy life and I am able to do it all with virtually no pain meds other than Tylenol or Aleve for inflamation . I owe all of this to Dr Soo. I was close to taking matters into my own hands. I wasn't living and no one seemed able or willing to help me. Dr. Soo did what others wouldn't or couldn't do. He gave me my life back. I had a spinal fusion of my L4, L5 and S1. I was told I would be out of commission for at the very least 6 weeks and would be in a lot of pain when I came out of surgery. Dr. Soo was AMAZING!! He had my pain completely under control. I went home from the hospital the next day and was driving in 4 weeks. I absolutely LOVE Dr. Soo. He did an amazing job on me. TL,DR; Avoid at all costs, staff and doctor's attention to detail is woeful at best, and their administrative incompetencies will likely see you billed for services that should be covered. Full: I was referred to Dr. Soo for a herniated disc at the end of July. I scheduled a virtual appointment for 8/3. I proceeded to discuss the symptoms and injury with the check-in nurse/staff (exhaustive list of symptoms were provided, specifically to symptoms NOT present before the injury, and also symptoms that severely impact my daily life which will be referred to as symptom x and symptom y). I was placed on hold for 10min, then spoke w/Dr. Soo's personal assistant and went over the exact same information that was provided to the previous nurse. Dr. Soo's assistant did not ask any follow up questions regarding my symptoms. I was placed on hold for almost an hour before speaking w/Dr. Soo. He advised he would need to see an MRI before diagnosing further. He did not address a single symptom that I brought up. I attempted to ask further about those symptoms which are impacting my daily life, he referred back to the need to see an MRI. I had less than five minutes with Dr. Soo and spent $50 to learn I needed a MRI. I was advised that I could seek an MRI at any location I chose, but it was recommended that I get it at Ascension's Novi campus due to their being on the same imaging and records network, etc... I was contacted by their (Ascension's) staff August 9 to schedule an MRI and they confirmed it was coming from Dr. Soo's office. The earliest available they had was August 20. I booked it and called my insurance company to ensure it was covered. They advised as long as the requesting doctor called in the order and provided the records (including symptoms x and y which I reported to the insurance company), it would be covered and I didn't have anything to worry about. The MRI was completed 8/20. Dr. Soo's office called on 8/21 advising me that he didn't feel that surgery was necessary. Great news, and happy to have a direction for recovery. I asked, "what does he think about symptom x and symptom y?" Dr. Soo's representative asked, "are these new symptoms?" I replied, "no, I reported these 3 times during my appt, and this is the 4th time I am telling you about these symptoms." The representative advised they would have Dr. Soo re-evaluate those symptoms and imaging and provide an update the next week. I received a call from Dr. Soo's office the following week. They advised Dr. Soo didn't think symptom x was related to this injury. I asked about symptom y, and they didn't recall that one. 5th time these were reported to Dr. Soo. 8/24, I received a letter from Cigna advising me that my MRI was not covered, and provided a list of reasons. 1 & 2, stated, "1) Imaging may be supported if you have severe pain going down your leg(s) with loss of function. Your records do not show that this applies to you. 2) Imaging may be supported if you have significant loss of function at home or at work." Symptoms x and y both directly apply to 1 and 2, and are currently still affecting me to a significant degree. It may be Dr. Soo's opinion that these were not related to the disc herniation, but they were reported multiple times to him and his staff, and should have been included in the notes sent to the MRI agent. The company which reviewed it advised that the order was not called in until 8/19, and that symptoms x and y were not included in the records. A p2p between Cigna's review board and Dr. Soo was scheduled for 9/10. I received an update from Cigna that the results of the peer-to-peer indicate the denial was correct, and that this is my fault, despite copious amounts of evidence provided to the insurance company and Dr. Soo's office. My assumption is their lack of record keeping and note taking is the reason this was denied. Dr. Soo's office was told about symptoms x and y no fewer than six times total, and I'm paying for their incompetence. Dr. Soo was outstanding both in terms of his surgical skills and compassion for his patients. After years of experiencing severe sciatic pain, he performed a double fusion procedure on my back that relieved me entirely of my discomfort. My only regret is that I did not meet Dr. Soo sooner.

Dr Soo performed a microdiscectomy on me. I walked into the hospital in excruciating pain and walked out with very little. I was off all pain meds within a few days after surgery. I highly recommend him.

Dr Mark Kachadurian of Associate in Neurology saw my mri result of my neck.Called Dr Soo right away surgery was plan for the morning. I was told to head southfield e.r right away. I have been a patient of Dr. Soo, starting in 2016 to 2021. I have always found that Dr. Soo, is friendly, has a sense of humor, is very proffessional and will answer your questions directly, and honestly. Dr. Soo does not sugar coat his answers, he can be very blunt. For example. When he last saw me he said I had gotten Fat. Was I offend? No way. Dr.Soo, only cares about me and my health. His comments was the motivation I needed to loose 40 pounds. I broke my tail bone in Oct. 2020. Dr Soo told me he could remove the tail bone and make me a doberman! I found that so funny. I knew he was joking. I've told many of my friends this joke. When Doc told me he'd make me a doberman I LAUGHED I told him not to crop my ears. I never thought Dr. Soo was demeaning or offensive by calling me a dog! Perhaps some people should learn to take a joke. In my opinion Doc Soo, is the very best Doctor and Surgeon I have every had. He deserves 10 stars.

Sacroiliac fusion 12/29/2020

I just had a second back surgery in July and returned to Dr Soo to perform it. He was SO helpful in the direction I needed to go. He explained everything before hand and took time afterwards to discuss, answer questions and recommend. Dr Soo is kind and considerate and truly wants to help you. I would strongly recommend Dr Soo to anyone needing back surgery.

Dr. Soo is an exceptional surgeon and human being. First of all, unlike many surgeons, Dr. Soo does not encourage surgery unless the patient absolutely requires it. He only promises realistic results, which he delivers. His bedside manner has been noted, but I find him direct and honest. I knew exactly what to anticipate regarding the procedure and outcome of surgery!!! I prefer my doctors to be direct and honest. He was available to me 24/7. Further, Dr. Soo is a terrific human being. He works hard and donates a good portion of his income to worthy causes. I always found him to be concerned and caring!!!

I highly recommend Dr. Soo, and have referred many people to him-As an RN, I was at a point where I had extreme difficulty performing my job due to increased pain. This is my second surgery by Dr. Soo, the first one went perfect, that was 13 Months ago. I had fallen and hurt my spine and my hip. I was in bed like 20 to 22 hours a day for six weeks, Praying for healing, and that it was the weather making me hurt so much. I was in North Carolina I had to get to Michigan to see Dr.Soo, The only doctor I will let operate on My back. Dr. SOO had to remove the disc in between L1 and L2, replaced it with a spacer and put in pins and screws on L1 and L2 and attach it to my pins and screws On L3, L4, L5 and sacrum. He does great work, I was on my feet the day of surgery and I went home from the hospital the day after surgery. It’s hard to find a good Doctor who will operate on ME after I’ve had five other back surgeries and 2 stimulator surgeries. I was very excited for my wife to see Teck Soo, as I heard from quite a few people that he was great. What we did not expect was: him telling my wife he didn’t know where her pain was coming from, offering no solutions, and then telling her she would probably die of a drug over dose in 10 years. My wife is 31 and an absolute control freak. She makes sure to take much less then prescribed and refuses to go up in the dose even before seeing him, she has been consistent for 2 years in that. Her PM&R doctor even tell her she’s months behind in filling scripts and shouldn’t put herself in pain but she refuses. My wife is on Tramadol which she take 2.5 pills a day out of the 8 she is prescribed. His bedside manner could not be any worse. He then said not bad for someone whose 2nd language is English.. we ignored the rest so we could get the hell out of there. I am 29 year old male, Have been having extreme low back pain for about 10 years. I went to see Doc. Soo, he was great start to finish. He is honest and a straight shooter. Will do whatever it takes to help you the most.i went in and had emergency back surgery fusion from s1 L3. I’m 4 months post opp and never had a shooting pain yet.
