Dr. Tara Starr

Wish I could give 100 stars. Dr. Starr performed laser cataract surgery on two of my eyes. I read a book for the first time without glasses since I was 25. I don't need glasses not for near or for distance and my work is in graphics and photography. I have no problem driving at night either. I feel much safer and confident with my new implants. I am glad she gave me all the possible options and explained them with both videos and in person. I was very comfortable with my final decision and the results were great. Very dedicated, available and up to date, both Dr. Starr and her staff.

Dr. Starr and I go a long way. I can't imagine seeing another eye doctor. I began seeing her 15 years ago in Berkeley, then moved out of the area. I drive 2 hours each way to see her, though we have an eye doctor only 10 minutes drive from where I live. I have nothing but the most stellar remarks for Dr. Starr and her staff. Her staff are top graduates from Berkeley. They are professional, polite and caring, a reflection of how Dr. Starr herself treats her patients. I have had two cataract surgeries and a correction of eyelid procedure. All three were painless, and the recovery was without any complications and the results: perfection. Recently I was told that I had beginning of glaucoma and my pressures were rising. She did a 5 minute office procedure and my eye pressures dropped to the normal level. I don't even use drops now. She is my top MD, unquestionably.

Dr. Starr and I go back a long way. She is a remarkable person and an amazing physician and surgeon. I have had two cataract and one eyelid correction surgery by her and they turned perfect. Her staff are polite, professional and caring, a reflection of Dr. Starr herself. They are all top Berkeley and Stanford gradates. I first saw her in Berkeley 15 years ago, then moved out of the area after I retired. A while back, I was diagnosed with glaucoma. I have been driving 2 hours each way each time I see her and it is worth the time. My eye pressure went down to normal after a quick 5 minute laser she did at the office. I know patients who come from other states to see her. I cannot be in better hands.

So I had really droopy lids and a large puffy lower lid after years of smoking ( which I finally quit 10 years ago). Dr. Starr said she would not operate on smokers because of poor results. She also explained to me what a "realistic expectation" was. However I had not been smoking for a while and she agreed. This was a year and a half ago. She was very reasonable. More importantly, she was extremely attentive, answered my many frantic weekend and after hours calls with calmness and insight, and walked me through the healing process. When I look at the mirror, I cannot believe the difference- it is day and night and I don't recognize my old self from before the surgery . So many compliments and after a year, the eyelids look even better and no scars. She went from inside the eyelids and left no scars at all. This was the best thing I did for myself in decades. Dr. Starr is an excellent physician! I have had two eye surgeries done by her and both turned out perfectly. She is compassionate and kind and explains the procedures in detail and in a lay person's language. I felt very comfortable going into the surgery and her follow up care was exemplary. I unhesitatingly recommend Dr. Starr.

She's the worst ophthalmologist that I have ever encountered. She...without my permission inserted a Tear Duct Plug into my eye and never told me. I was traveling and was in excruciating pain. I had to pay out of my own pocket to see another Doctor who removed it. NEVER AGAIN WILL SHE GET NEAR ME.

Dr. Starr has been my eye doctor for several years now, and I love that she is very caring and attentive. Thanks to her diligence and recommendations, we've managed to decrease my extremely high eye pressure (which I've had for years), and I'm grateful for that.

My overall experience with this office has been wonderful. The staff is extremely communicative and was able to fit me into their schedule as they were very flexible. Dr. Starr was extremely kind and incredibly thorough when examining and explaining what was going on with my eyes. I cannot say how grateful I am for the sight given to me after a laser surgery and treatment for glaucoma and cataract by Dr. Starr. Always professional, patient, and responsive to my calls and concerns before and after the procedures she performed. Her office staff is also tops. I had seen three other ophthalmologists two in Lafayette and another in Pinole who completely missed the type of glaucoma I had and didn't know I needed a laser. I saw Dr. Starr several years ago for the first time and she said I needed a laser to alleviate the pressure and that did the job. I needed cataract surgery last year and that was extremely successful. I do not wear any glasses any more, and my eye pressure is normal without the drops. She is absolutely the best eye doctor I have had. Cataract surgery went great. No glasses. Great staff.

She has been my doctor for 10 years. I have had at least three emergencies, two of them over the weekends and she came in on two Sunday morning, opened the office door and treated me as if it were a regular day. Extremely professional and empathetic and expert in her field. I will never go to another ophthalmologist.

I already left a long review for her office in lafayette but since I was seen in both places , I feel compelled to also share my thoughts here about Dr Tara Starr. She performed a double cataract surgery , implanted some amazing tri focal lenses that gave to both my eyes a perfect vision . I am so happy with the result ! I have to add that besides being extremely professional , she is the most sweet and caring doctor I had the pleasure to work with. She even managed my anxiety very well , I always had questions and she was always very generous with her time . Well Tara it is about time I sent another email to let you know that I think of you every morning when I open my eyes. I still have perfect vision. I wish I could give Dr. Starr many more than the maximum of 5 stars for her exceptional skills and knowledge of the field, together with a pleasant, caring persona. Within the past 12 months, I have had cataract removal from both eyes with excellent results and minimal apprehension. My eyesight is now far better than ever before, in fact it is perfect! Being 68 years old, I have seen many doctors in the Bay Area over the years for my own health issues and for my spouse, children, and grandchildren, but Dr. Starr surpasses all others by far in her personal involvement with the patient’s concerns for wellness. As she is very generous with the time and attention given to all in her practice, it is to be expected that her office schedule may not always run like clockwork. Dr. Starr’s reputation speaks volumes. It was obvious on my first visit to her office that she is devoted to her patients and has a passion for her specialty. She performed cataract surgery and replaced my lense in both eyes with a multi-focal lense. I no longer wear contacts or glasses! I was also impressed by her friendly, professional staff. She is the best!

Dr. Tara Starr embodies all the qualities of a great physician: Dr. Starr is highly skilled, compassionate and caring, reassuring, attentive and responsive to her patients’ needs and concerns, and, again, highly skilled. She has saved my eyesight. I cannot say enough good things about her!!!

Worst eye doctor experience I've ever had. They lost my prescription, couldn't find it for weeks. Finally they found it, ordered my lenses and I was told it would come in three weeks. After three months of calling them and trying to track down my glasses they told me there was a mix up and they wouldn't be coming. I still get a bill in the mail and when I call to pay they can't find my file and I need to find my bill tell THEM the amount and call back. I highly recommend you DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. I have the privilege to be Dr.Starr's patient and so does my husband. It is an experience that I want to share with everybody .If you have any eye problems or you need to have improvements on your face, please ,don't think twice. Dr.Starr treated my wrinkles with volume lift shots (juvederm).She is so excellent and caring Doctor that I don't find enough words to describe her talent and knowledge.She is willing to help and spends a great deal of time listening to her patients. When my sister came to visit me the first thing she told me was that I looked as if I had come from a two week vacation at a fancy Resort but that was not the answer. When I told her, she was amazed at how fresh my face looked.I always tell everybody that my magic 'wand' is called Dr.Starr. She also has very nice people who work for her and her whole team makes one feel 'at home'. Dr.Starr treated my husbands's cataracts.He is very happy with his results, the surgery was a success.He never felt any pain or discomfort during the operation or after, when he got home.His eyes are healing very well and the only thing he has to do is to go to her offie for follow-up. Dr. Starr is a great doctor! She was able to help me with my eye problem. She has a lot of nice frames and she even gave me a free pair of glasses. She's very nice and accomodating as well as her office staffs. Highly recommended!

Dr. Starr performed cataract surgery in both eyes last month, a couple weeks apart. I was very near sighted, wearing glasses since age 8. She inserted a special lens that also corrected my astigmatism. I have 20/20 vision at distance and near in one eye and 20/15 ( better than 20/20) in the other eye. The surgery was done at Aspen Surgery Center in Walnut Creek which was also very pleasant and smooth. I had heard great things about Dr. Starr as a surgeon, but now, I am the living proof. Very attentive and addressed all my questions before the procedure. It all went smoothly. Very professional and caring. Highly recommend. I received a phone call from Dr. Starr a few hours after my eyelid surgery for drooping eyelids. Though I had no pain, it was great to know that the doctor was concerned about me and called me personally after a whole day of doing surgeries. One week later all the bruising was gone. A month after the surgery, all the swelling is also gone and I am told I look about twenty years younger! She was very meticulous and talented. I have tremendous confidence under her care. She went above and beyond to take care of my undiagnosed glacoma with very little notice. After an ER visit I was told to follow up with an ophthalmologist. Her office got me in the same day I called and when she discovered the high pressure in my eye she immediately performed laser eye surgery. Her dedication is very apparent.

I have been a patient of Dr. Starr's for five or more years. Dr. Starr is a highly skilled physician and has a caring, compassionate, wonderful rapport with her patients. She's the best!

Dr. Starr performed cataract surgery on both eyes, inserting Toric lenses, which transformed my distance vision and cured my astigmatism. She is an excellent surgeon, very warm and caring. The surgeries took place at the Aspen Surgery Center at John Muir Hospital, also highly recommended.

I have been a patient of Dr.Starr for a couple of years now and I never felt so well taken care of. Dr.Starr is a very thorough professional and beyond dedicated to her patients. She has done some treatments on my face such as volume lift.She did that twice and in both visits I have felt very comfortable at her office and my face looks now 10 years younger. Dr. Starr did laser cataract surgery on both my cataracts in May. I had astigmatism and I am a PA at a local ER. I had painless surgery, had my astigmatism reversed and thanks to her skills and my special implant, I can see distance, near and can do all my work without glasses. I have nothing, but deepest respect for her.

Dr. Starr was a lifesaver for me. She and her staff were very professional and knowledgeable, as well as comforting during all of my visits. I had been suffering with severe nerve damage near my right eye, and Dr. Starr was very familiar with my condition. She put my mind at ease, and my cataract surgery was completely painless. After the surgery, I realized that at least half of my nerve pain was gone. Dr. Starr also recommended a great neurology doctor for me to see.

Dr Tara Starr misdiagnosed my eye condition and her billing department is incompetent I am very disappointed and dissatisfied with her services and I feel her license should not be renewed

My cataract surgery was made more complicated by my age (72) and glaucoma. I wanted to find a surgeon who had lots of experience with this combination, and I was fortunate to find Dr. Starr. Dr. Starr was very detailed in her examination and took significant time to explain the surgery and my options. The surgery was quick and easy, with no pain or discomfort whatsoever. I was awake through the entire procedure. My vision is now perfect. A great experience!
