Dr. Sunil N Lalla

Dr. Lalla has been my Internist/Pulmonologist for 5 years. He has always spent time discussing my health issues and care at my appointments. He is an excellent listener and always has options to offer me. I would still be on oxygen full time if Dr. Lalla had not given me various breathing exercises to do at home to help my lungs. He followed my care closely when I was recently in the hospital. I recommend him to anyone looking for an Internist or Pulmonologist that cares and believes in giving patients choices to improve their health - the way healthcare used to be!

Was referred to Dr Lalla by our retiring family Dr ..am very trusting of his knowledge as we have heard from many people the most wonderful stories of how he saved their lives.. he is caring, knowledgeable and puts you at ease with his thorough physician skills. HealthPark Hospital, 3 west, physician in charge. Very poor supervision of nurses attending the patient. -Refused to consider any plan of care other than, hospice - and/or injected morphine and fentanyl. -Removed all patient stats monitoring devices. Encourage other patients/families to request another physician.

So I was sent here for a general medical exam. I’d never gone here before, and I have crippling mental health issues including agoraphobia. This was the first doctor I’d been to in two years (besides virtual). When we got there, we got into an elevator and went to a waiting room on the second floor. The waiting room was a bit small but clean, and not overly crowded. First things first, the building is a tad old, and it’s not exactly a modern facility HOWEVER the staff make up for that. The lady at the desk was immediately pleasant to us, and Nicky is a gem. A literal gem. As someone who can’t leave my house without debilitating panic attacks, she put me at ease quit a bit. Obviously I was still struggling. But she’s hilariously funny, very warm and welcoming and just great. After I saw her, I saw a nurse who was very pleasant, and did the exam thoroughly and professionally. The atmosphere here felt very calm and welcoming. The staff are great and I truly don’t understand any negative comments about them. I think the atmosphere of the place alone makes it great for anyone who may have severe anxieties and panic disorders. If you are going to them for any sort of evaluation for disability, just know they’re a really welcoming place with great staff that are incredibly friendly and accommodating to people who may have anxieties. I’d give them a 4.5 if I could.

I have been seeing Dr. Lalla for over 2 years now. I have been hospitalized multiple times with lung issues. Dr. Lalla has saved my life when we thought I would not pull thru. He has searched for and given me answers when no one else would. Dr. Lalla continues to work with me and my illness making great strides to a full recovery/meaningful life. I have had other pulmonologists in the past and Dr. Lalla is the only pulmonologist I found who has taken the time to listen to me and research my disease himself because little is known about it. When my husband needed help the most for my condition as I was not responsive, he was able to contact Dr. Lalla on a personal level and was able to hold a personable or more human conversation than with any other Dr. in his experience.

Dr. Lalla is an excellent pulmonologist. He is attentive and knowledgeable. I’ve taken both of my parents to their appointments with him and am always impressed. When a certain treatment doesn’t seem to be working, he researches and offers another, always trying to tweak treatments and improve their health. He made regular visits to my dad when he was admitted to the hospital, which comforted and helped us as a family understand what was going on. His office is clean and tidy.

Several years of office problems and endless waiting for return calls or just failure of office or Dr to use local pharmacy when specifically requested. Thursday in his office I get no exam, no stethoscope exam just told to get a external Covid test at a testing site. After external confirmation of Covid late Friday afternoon I get notice he sent script to mail order pharmacy. I ended up in ER where I got an X-ray, full exam, vitals monitoring. Got a script filled locally for Covid and sent home. As of now, Tuesday afternoon, I still haven’t received the mail order script and wouldn’t have even begun treatment if I waited. This is so typical and I am so done with this Dr.

This place so terrible. You need waiting 30/40 minutes only for get a B12…. Is ridiculous how the secretary organizing time. The office no respect people time. I never back here again. The office empty and I need waiting ????????????????

HealthPark Hospital, Fort Myers, July and August, 2019. Dr Lala took over medical care in July on the 5th floor and in August/September on 3rd west. The admissions were directly from the emergency department, (ER was amazing care, thanks).

Absolutely zero bed side manner. Admitted my mother for respiratory failure to unexpectedly find out she had stage 4 lung cancer. Entire other story there how we had absolutely no idea. Dr. Lalla explained to us the situation and was pressuring us to ultimately accept it and just pull the plug. Let me clarify that yes my mother required an extremely high level of supplied air through a nasal cannula. Other than that she was perfectly fine. Could talk, eat, laugh, cry, stand up watch TV...Dr. Lalla wanted us to send her to hospice which denied her bc they couldn't supply the necessary air supply. He repeatedly pressured us to just wrap it up and let her go. I honestly wouldn't know how good a doctor he is because our time was limited with him, but WOW Absolutely zero bed side manner. The worst medical office in Lee county, maybe in all of Florida. Takes them 15 minutes to pick up the phone, 2 hours behind on appointments. If you don’t have long to live, don’t waste time at this place, you may die before seeing the doctor.

If I could give a zero- I would. From a former employee: they will take their time, withhold information, give expired injections, and belittle their help right in front of anyone. If you have any opinions on your own health they will talk over you and gaslight you. If you ask for paperwork they will not complete it unless you pay for it (school forms, etc). Refuse to complete action plans or school forms without a second appointment or because “they don’t get paid for that” or “don’t find it necessary”. Withhold results until you can come in and pay your copayment, etc- and wait times are at least two weeks out. Will overbook and then not see the patients (his PAs will). The manager will not call you back and she always makes the employees deflect direct calls. Your prescriptions will not be corrected- they will be written on a sticky note, handed off/ thrown away, and the employee is prompted to tell the patient (I’ll get it fixed for you) and hang up. If you’re waiting for oxygen- good luck. They don’t have enough workers or properly trained help to send out your orders. When a call comes in to correct an order the manager tells the employee to “take a message” and forgets. They have new employees every other month due to the extreme overwork, over booking, and complete disregard for their employees. (They also withhold your last paycheck) …The list goes on. There’s no compassion and they don’t honor the code, patients, or employees. It’s a shame they’re allowed to ruin lives the way they do. If I could give a zero- I would. I cannot say enough good about Dr. Lalla. I have been very ill for over 14 years with severe lung disease. I have been to multiple Drs. to find a diagnosis and treatment. After being sent to a Michigan University to try to "Rule Out" different possibilities, with no definitive answers concluded; they just settled on the closest possibility and began to treat me for Rheumatoid Arthritis of the lungs. The visit lasted more than 4 hours, when it should have been less than and hour. A CT scan was ordered for the blood clot in left-arm. It has been 11 days since the scan and there has been no follow-up by the doctor. Swelling in left arm persists. Have contacted the office multiple times for information and have never received the courtesy of a returned call. This office is very unprofessional.

every single staff member is extremely ignorant. even when I asked to speak to a higher up team member to get my grandmothers appt, debbie hung up on me. all I needed was a follow up appointment with Dr. Lalla. ALSO they made us pay $175 out of pocket and didn't even try to bill her insurance! I do NOT recommend this office.

I had a horrible experience with this physician.

Horrible. I was a first time patient because I saw he had five stars under his name. All I can say is that the nurse, just before she left, said “I hope I never see you again.”

Failed to see patient had internal bleeding. Failed to manage patients pain even though he should have because patient was under palliative care. Patient suffered in pain for weeks. Horrible bed side manner, no empathy for family members. Did not take anytime to explain patients condition. Walked away from POA without any explanation of why he felt patient had no qualify of life. Never told POA that patient would never walk again, was told he would go to rehabilitation. In 18 days time I had not seen the doctor and I was there 6-9 hours a day. Had to request to see him. Told daughter in front of patient he had no quality of life. Doctor went to see patient in the evenings when he was usually sleeping but awake during the day.

I was discharged and cleared by my surgeon at 5:30 AM Dr. Lalla didn’t show up for 8 hours after to speak with me, which he didn’t even have too. I sat around in the hospital for zero reason costing me my day, and now the insurance company will waste money on wasted time. I would not recommend him for any practice.

I have been trying for over 3 weeks too get A simple form filled out showing I have changed Dr. For my pharmacy so I can get my Rxs. So far No Luck with office help & no. No way to talk to Dr. Unless you catch him on the street what A shame.

2 1/2 hr. wasted trip. No social distancing. Couldn't find our schedule. Staff was very rude. And the list goes on.

Dr. Lalla either chooses or is challenged to effectively communicate in person and is totally absent on his required office Updox portal. All communications are assigned to discourteous, verbally challenged, unprofessional and incompetent Office Staff. Annie, Dr. Lalla’s PA is an excellent communicator and seasoned PA but her effectiveness is diminished if a task or request is dependent upon Office Staff. My repeated experience is a great call and action plan with Annie, PA but no follow through because the Office Staff or Office Manager (Debbie) fails to complete simple requests like an Order for a Chest X-ray or bloodwork. When you call to inquire, you are inevitably forced to act as go-between or facilitator to make the authorized action plan happen - you can either message the portal and get no response or have guaranteed, unpleasant discourse with rude and under qualified Office Staff. This environment is not conducive to receiving quality healthcare.

My husband was assigned Dr Lalla during an emergency at Gulf Coast Medical center. Not knowing any other pulmonologist in our area we decided to continue with follow up. I was shocked when we went to his office and was assaulted with a whole host of offensiveness . This is a pulmnologist's office and you would expect clean, pleasant air, as well as a clean waiting area. The staff is pleasant enough but after 5 months of requesting pulmonary rehab with no results we finally changed doctors. So many things were ignored by the doctor and no matter which location, you had to continually call to get any results. There were no hand sanitizers or sinks for hand washing in the exam rooms and just a bad place for anyone with lung/breathing issues. I got to see the Dr once. The other times it was the PA and I asked questions about test and CT and sleep study and could get no answers. I have had a terrible cough for 9 weeks and not getting better. I just want some answers. I’m not getting them. The wait in the waiting room is long with a short office visit. I hope I see the dr next time but who knows. I’m still coughing and need breathing treatments every 4. My ribs hurt my head and neck hurt when I cough and I’m getting a hernia. All from 9 weeks of coughing 24/7 very hard. The only thing they say is Bronchitis so am I going to have to cough 24/7 with every 4 hour breathing treatments for shortness of breath. I tell them I sit at 84 some days and they say at the office it’s fine as long as it’s above ....I don’t need o2. My chest is heavy and I get palpitations. No one listens. I got to see the Dr once. Dr Lalla and his staff are the BEST

Office Manager was VERY rude during call regarding my husband’s hospital follow up appointment. The office refused to see him after an ER visit. I was advised that I was being transferred to billing for payment arrangements and then Debbie the office manager stated that she was was overriding the decision for payment arrangements. The office then lied stating that the doctor was called to the hospital for an emergency after my husband was able to borrow money for his hospital follow up.

Sincere and genuine concern for patients.

This doctor was a referral and saw my wife once and his PA once. My wife is on maintainer medication and not one prescription has his office ordered from the first visit (one year). His office is the worst. They ordered the wrong meds and refuses to correct the Rx. Even being her doctor she was referred out because he is booked until 2021. Terrible office staff also. .

I had a cardiac arrest and was, assigned Dr Lalla, he spent less than 5 minutes with you when I had a follow up appointment neither him or his assistant even knew why was there never even looked at my records and charged me, 135 for doing nothing. Less than 2 months later I was hospitalized for pneumonia He still never took the time to look at my records and see that I coded twice and had to revived twice. 4 days in the hospital and barely saw him less than 5 minutes just to listen to my lungs. Bill was almost 800 for nothing. The 4 day he asked me why I was still there and the nurse told him he never released me so he covered his but by saying I needed more x-rays and breathing treatments which should have been started the first day not the last night. He's rude.

Excellent doctor, very kind and considerate in helping you with what ever medical issue you may have. His knowledge is outstanding in all fields, you can ask him any question and he will help you fine the correct solution and path you need to improve your health.

I have been a patient of Dr. Lalla since 2012 and find him to be an exceptionally caring person who is always looking for new methods to help me with my COPD. I feel very comfortable with him, and find his concern to be better than I have ever experienced with any other doctor. I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of his special field.

My wife and I have been patients of Dr. Lalla's for 15+ years and have received excellent care. I see him for pulmonary issues and as a family physician. He takes time answering any questions or concerns in an easy to understand manner. We find him to be a caring and proactive doctor and highly recommend him.

Truly a great physician. He always puts patients first. I worked very well with Dr. Lalla when I was CAO of his hospital.

My fathee and husband have been receiving exceptional care from Dr. Lalla for over 10 years. He is tireless with razor sharp diagnostic, procedural and critical Care Management skills. Recently my mother had elective surgery, and developed a life threatening complication requiring the immediate placement of a chest tube. I requested Dr Lalla be paged and, although my mother was not his patient, he arrived within minutes and skillfully placed the needed chest tube, saving her life. Amen

They have good therapy

I went to Dr. Lalla today with issues regarding my time spent at Ground Zero (the World Trade Center). His staff is extremely friendly. Dr. Lalla and his P.A. are thorough, and took their time reviewing my medical issues. Dr. Lalla ordered more tests and made me feel very comfortable. He is warm and caring.

My 85yr old Mother was in Gulf Coast with severe flu. She has COPD also. Saw Dr. Lalla and was sent home with nebulizer and medications to put in it. Only problem it has been 6 days and only RX received was for medication to but in nebulizer!! Home health said they only set up physical therapy. And we should hear from Dr Lalla. Or maybe we can buy a nebulizer? I found out we cannot! Need RX for one! Six days of more discomfort. Why? Called office and waiting for SOMEONE to write RX.

Extremely satisfied with Dr Lalla's care. He is friendly and tries to help in whatever way he can. His listens to his patients where other won't. His staff is very helpful and they go out of their way for you. Its almost like you are family. Very respectful and awesome practice. Some people may not like to wait but as good food takes time to cook,great health care can take sometime also.Patience is the key!
