Dr. Steven J Tang

I have been seeing Dr. Tang for ten plus years, and it was a good office until a few years ago, all front desk staff and support do not care at all about patients, actively make their life as difficult as possible, and are outright rude. HIGHLY recommend finding a different doctor, my entire family used to go here and I was last one who still put up with front desk staff.

Starting by how rude and no bed side manners Dr Steven Tang has, he made us wait 35 mins in the room and did not show up! When we left the room he decided to come out! We did not see him, but the receptionist already charged our co-pay. I asked for a refund and she said that cannot be done. So they are rude, no show to an appointment time that was given by them and on top of it, charging you for no reason! DONT GO TO THAT OFFICE OR TO THAT DOCTOR.

Worse doctor I've ever been to.

I scheduled an annual physical with Dr. Tang at the start of August which was about 2 weeks out. The day before my appointment I got a call from them asking me to call back. When I called back I was told that "unfortunately" Dr. Tang can not see me for Annual physical because he is all booked up. I asked them how that could be since I specifically made the appointment for Annual physical and did that weeks in advance. The rep told me it is "unfortunate" but the system doesn't let them see what kind of appointment I made and that I should have called them after making the appointment anyway. Although I was very frustrated at this because my time was wasted and next appointment offered was 3 months later, I decided to wait it out. A little while later I got a notification from the doctor's office which stated the reason for cancellation as "Patient". As in, I cancelled the appointment. I emailed them back asking why it says patient since I did NOT cancel the appointment but after multiple emails there was no response. They see my messages but choose not to respond. I will be watching my insurance statement to see if they try to claim this to my insurance. What a shame. "Unfortunately" I will be moving to a different primary care doctor with more competent staff that would respect patients under their care. I unfortunately ran 10 minutes late for my appointment today. I was told I would need to reschedule though there were no other patients in the waiting room. I was then told the doctor does not review or discuss lab results he did not order. That is unfortunate. 11/2020 UPDATE: Novant hired a person named Glenn and he is so nice. How refreshing! I added a star!! 08/2020: I want to start off by saying that I LOVE Dr. Tang. We've been seeing him for over 8 years now. But, his front desk staff is so RUDE. The past few visits and calls to the office -- whoever I talk to or encounter is RUDE. Anything I ask, the person has a disgruntled attitude. Terrible staff. Phone calls not returned. No follow through.

I am specifically reviewing Dr Tang. I assume he is knowledgeable, but he does not respect his patients. For background, I just visited his office to request a refill of a prescription to treat an oral infection. The prescribing doctor, not Tang, emphasized an intensive approach. I was to take several doses daily, for 10 days in a row. Even once it seemed healed up, I needed to finish the full 10 days or it would flare up again. I missed 5 days- my fault. I’d need to do the whole treatment again, and didn’t have enough medicine for a full 10 days. My priority was to get to get a refill before the remaining medicine ran out, so that I could resume taking the medicine immediately and not miss any more doses. The original doctor was not available on such short notice, but Dr. Tang was so I made an appointment. Dr Tang told me that because no infection was visible, I must have been misdiagnosed- if there was ever was an infection, it was definitely cured now. My mouth looked healthy, I looked healthy overall, and I wasn’t in pain or “drooling,” so no refill for me. When I persisted, he gave me number of a gastroenterologist and left. All this after he was over 30 minutes late to our appointment. The nurse apologized for him multiple times and said he had been on the phone. He did not take me seriously at all. Evidently, he did not take his fellow physician seriously, either. What a headache! Two days later, after going 72 hours WITHOUT MY REFILL, the infection has of course come back in very VISIBLE, full-blown form. I will be back to show Dr Tang the now-obvious infection, and get that refill. Then I’m done. I’ve now learned that my sibling had a similarly unfortunate experience with Dr Tang, and his dismissive approach to patients. I wish I had known earlier. Please look elsewhere for decent care! Doctor Tang is a very good doctor. He’s thorough, technical, and very smart. He has a good personality. Highly recommend him for anyone seeking a primary care physician.

Great longtime doctor. He’s also a surgeon. And he’s very technical.

Dr Tang is very patient and takes the time to explain the situation and answer questions.

Dr. Tang recently provided me with a referral for a dermatologist in about half the time that it normally takes dealing with my HMO. Thanks to him I had my medical issue looked at and resolved in 3 days instead of 3 months. He has always taken the time to listen patiently and answer all of my questions. He is very friendly and professional. This is the best primary care physician in Gainesville.

Dr Tang is very knowledgeable and takes the time to explain things to you. Plus, the office staff is very nice and helpful.
