Gold standard treatment in every respect. Office staff is friendly and efficient. Dr. Kariya is very patient and responsive. His years of experience show. He listens to me and achieves maximum results with the safest interventions.

Dr. Kariya has such a fine work ethic: he listens, asks clarifying questions, gives thoughtful analyses, and even sends a thorough summary notes to the patient portal. I am blessed to have such a physician.

I called to make an appointment to see Dr Kariya, the receptionist who answer the phone to was rude, impolite, lack of knowledge and understanding. I am wondering who hires such an irresponsible people for important job.

Dr. Kariya is extremely rude and unprofessional, giving diagnosis not asked for. I had been having medical issues and several of my doctors—including him—were brought into the discussion. When I saw him he walked in the room and said “The only thing wrong with you is that you’re addicted to Klonopin.” Then he turned around and walked out the door. I just canceled my appointment I had with him in a few days. He needs to stick to pulmonology with his Harvard degree and stop dabbling in the field of psychiatry. He had no idea what he was talking about. I have never had any type of physician talk to me or treat me with such disregard and disrespect. That was 6 months ago. I will never forget the shock I felt. From other reviews it seems he thinks he’s also a psychiatrist. If there was the option no stars that’s what he would have received from me. Takes times to review symptoms and concerns. Works with you for treatment plan. Very thorough and competent

Believe all the other negative reviews! He is extremely rude, condescending and arrogant. The first thing he asked when he walked in was if I am related to another patient and said the patient’s full name. He then said “oops I probably shouldn’t say other patients names.” Duh! Violation of HIPPA! He then asked very bizarre and inappropriate questions and his exam was inappropriate and gross as well. I am sure there are many other patients with stories like mine. He needs to be put into retired.

Office staff were great, friendly, pleasant. Dr. Kariya has great personality, inviting setting he listened, ran test, very upfront and honest, I highly recommend him.

Dr. Kariya is exceptional in his knowledge of Pulmonary issues. He has extensive experience as a Pulmonologist and a Critical Care Medical Doctor. He save my life in 2018. I continue to ghave him as my Pulmonologist.

Spent 10 minutes talking about himself and then cut the appointment off when I was explaining my symptoms because he claims to only have 15 minutes per patient. Then, falsely charged me a missed appointment fee and refused to take it off the bill.

My first visit I had the breathing test with nurse practitioner Belinda and she told me that I had COPD (moderate) I had an MRI on on my chest came back good. I went today and had a more extensive breathing test with a respiratory therapist (Solomon) who was so awesome and not rushing me like the first visit. Low and behold I do not have COPD and my lungs are fine. I am truly upset because this diagnosis is on my medical record and now I have to fight to get it off. Very disappointed and Dr. Kariya did not apologize for the error and was very nonchalant about the whole ordeal

Dr.Kariya didnt tell my father to get a CT chest scan for likely returned cancer diagnosis, though this was the recommendation in a related CT report held by Dr. Kariya. Two years were lost. Though stage 4 by this time, my father survived another two, living a vibrant life. While the Dept of Health sent an Advisory Letter, one would think his license should have been pulled. Lots of pulmonologists in Montgomery County, go to an ethical one. Dr. Kariya was extremely rude to me. He immediately judged me for the way I look and I believe he thought I was only there because I wanted drugs. I am a 19 year old man with long hair and a fan of heavy metal music so I was sporting a shirt of a band I listen to. I could see when Dr. Kariya talked to me he had a look on his face like he didn’t believe anything I was saying. I told him I was having trouble breathing when I had coughing spells and his tone of voice made it sound like he was suspicious when he was asking further questions. Throughout the examination he made comments along the lines of how it must be hard to breathe if I was “stoned”. I am not a drug user and I felt that he was making an assumption of me based on my age and appearance. Dr. Kariya finally confirmed my suspicion when he said to me “you seem like a nice young man, I guess looks can be deceiving”. I have NEVER heard such blatant RUDENESS come out of a doctors mouth. My mother came to the appointment with me because she was concerned for my health. He told her to leave the room and one point and said to me “now is there anything you want to tell me while your mom is out of the room”, he obviously was not going to hide this suspicion. I overall just got the feeling that he thought I was some drug addict looking for a fix and my mother was some dumb woman believing everything her son told her. I understand the suspicion but being so rude and obvious about it? Really? You are supposed to be a professional pulmonologist from Harvard! Dr Kariya quickly ate his words when my chest X-ray came back healthy, he came in the room and said to me “want to see what a healthy chest looks like?”. It quickly became clear that he realized the error in his judgement when he was very nice towards the end, wishing me luck in college. Dr. Kariya is also very arrogant, he went out of his way to throw in that he was a Harvard graduate during our conversation by trying to make a joke about superman, he just had to throw it in there. I didn’t think much of this but as I was leaving when he told me that he was “very popular” and I would have to make another appointment in advance and would most likely have to wait six weeks I realized how cocky he really was. I understand doctors have waiting lists but my goodness he couldn’t have come off more full of himself. After my treatment solely from Dr. Kariya, as the rest of his staff was fabulous, I highly recommend searching for other pulmonologists if you were considering him. He has been a g-dsend to our family for both my mother and my father. Almost everywhere they go when they list Dr. Kariya on their forms the doctor remarks at how wonderful a pulmonologist he is. Wonderful.

Very impressed with Dr Kariya, smart, comprehensive, easy to talk with, took time to explain everything, answered all questions, reviewed all tests and explained options. I found office staff to be helpful and organized, no wait time in office, and they were able to find me an appointment within a week of my call. I highly recommend Dr Kariya! Dr. Kariya, informed me about some worrisome scans as soon as he received the results, a few weeks before my visit. I like to know with a quick call or message ahead of time and not wait for weeks or days before my visit. I really appreciate the consideration given by Dr. Kariya to the patient’s state of mind.

Dr. Kariya cares more about feel good, virtue signalling trips to Haiti than his own long term patients. He will prescribe psych meds over actually implementing new treatments for patients. Pulomonary patients needs nutrition and calories but this doctor has never made that a priority. Just a real poor excuse for a Doctor. Lazy where it really matters. Worst place ever! Never go here, first of all made the appointment for April 26th, two days before the appt front desk lady called me to change it because the dr was not going to be there, she changed it to may the 5th at 3:15. When I got there for my appt at 3, they said that my appt was may the 1st not the 5th, very rude, telling me that I have to pay a no show fee of $75 dollars, I am surprised because I had it in my calendar and I was there, why I was going to be there if I didn't have an appt? Hello!! While I was there the front desk lady changed 3 appointments in less than 15 minutes, they are a big mess, the office had a weird smell, I suffer from asthma and I'm pregnant, they didn't want to see me or rescheduled my appt until I pay the $75 dollars... $75 dollars for a no show fee??? A model physician. He cares about his patients and works hard for them. He is learned and does not talk down to patients.

As a physician, who happens to be one Dr. Kariya's patient, I'm extremely impressed by his compassion, attentiveness, fund of knowledge, and common sense. It is rare to find all that in any single healthcare provider. My interactions with his staff have been similarly positive. I consider myself fortunate to have Dr. Kariya and his office staff as a resource. Office Manager is a confused in competent bafoone! Office is unorganized. Front offive staff lazy and rude!

I highly recommend Dr. Kariya. He's very thorough and takes time to go through test results with the patient. I had several scans and an x-ray, and nobody discussed them with me when I was in the hospital--not even the pulmonologist AT the hospital. Dr. Kariya walked me through the scans and had me do additional tests. My questions were answered without me being treated like the village idiot. I like how Dr. Kariya engages the patient. Excellent bedside manner (SO RARE). I highly recommend Dr. Kariya. He's very thorough and takes time to go through test results with the patient.
