Excellent high quality service. Dr. Haleo is thorough; takes time to explain everything he’s doing and talks you through results. I highly recommend him.

I have experienced a lot of growth and improvement that I have been able to recognize. I began the therapy sessions due to my decision to go to graduate school. My first year was challenging due to many headaches and the inability to keep up with my reading and written reports due to eye fatigue. I also struggled driving home safely from my night classes on the interstate. I made the decision to restart therapy due to a previous experience with vision and light therapy. I was diagnosed with Irlen Syndrome at a young age, and so the therapies really transformed my learning and social practices in the past. I was willing to try again with Dr. Haleo and I am once again pleased with the results. I look forward to finishing my degree and beginning my editing career now that I have more control over my visual faculties. Even driving has become less of a burden. Typically, I avoid going to new or unfamiliar places by myself, especially if it means having to drive home after dark. I have a 20 minute commute from my house to my job, but I instead take a route that is 39 minutes because it avoids the highway and is more familiar to me. I no longer need to double my commute. I even began working as a DoorDash driver during the pandemic when work was lost. I never would have considered this before due to the requirement of driving to unfamiliar places. During one of my deliveries, my GPS lost signal. I was able to recall the left and right turns I’d made getting to the proper address in order to get myself back home. Again, this is something I have never been able to do before. For context, when I was in high school, I would often call my mom in tears and in a panic because I’d made a wrong turn somewhere and ended up in Rockhill, SC trying to leave my school in Monroe, NC to get home in Stallings, NC. This type of mistake happened all throughout my undergrad career as well. To say I have improved is an understatement. I highly recommend Dr. Haleo for anyone struggling with vision disorders or anything similar. I look forward to walking into a classroom and not having to just take the first seat by the door because I can’t see the room that I’ve entered and I don’t want to look stupid wandering around and bumping into everything. I can leave class and run to the restroom when needed without fear of not finding my way back to the room. I can go to Target without having to look for the product online first, not for convenience purposes, but because in the past, without knowing the proper aisle ahead of time, it would take me an hour to find where I needed to be. This would usually result in frustration and a return home empty-handed, which my bank account always thanked me for, but my anxiety did not. I encourage anyone seeking help to contact Dr. Haleo and the Vision Therapy Center of Charlotte to take the necessary step of improvement. You owe it to yourself. Finding Dr. Haleo two years ago changed our lives. He treated me for divergence insufficiency that was debilitating to the point where I could hardly work or finish my MA. I've now graduated and look forward to teaching, happy and healthy, and even going further in academics someday. But that's not the only success story. We actually went to VT Center of Charlotte for my son. We knew something was off, and it didn't look like any of the typical vision problems I knew to look for. Turned out that he was seeing in double. Convergence insufficiency that was causing his brain to suppress vision in one eye in order to compensate, AND suppress his hearing. My sweet boy had become stressed, acting out and complaining of pain and we didn't know what to do. With support glasses from Dr. Haleo our son could SEE legos in 3D for the first time, and he could continue learning while we started therapy. His double vision is now permanently GONE, and with only a few more visits his reading, tracking, focusing and visualization will be back up to his age if not better. Having Dr Haleo work with my son through the vision therapy program was an extremely beneficial experience. He knew how to reach him with his manner, and has been instrumental with helping my son's confidence and ability to process his vision. I don't know what we would have done without him. We aren't out of the woods yet, it will take time, but if your child suffers from dyslexia and is having trouble reading, I'll bet he can help. Wow. Dr. Haleo was amazing. He covered and checked for so many details concerning my double vision and had answers and a plan that will help. I tried 4 other eye doctors before seeing him and none of them could help and even misdiagnosed. I can't believe other eye doctors don't check all the things he checked. Dr. Haleo was very personable and very thorough. He listened to everything I had to say and then related each symptom I mentioned back to his testing and examination strategies. Within the first five minutes, he noticed an issue I had forgotten to mention, and he explained to me how we would go about resolving that issue. He remained encouraging throughout the process and spent the entire session time with me—there was no waiting in the lobby, or waiting in one room while he processed results in another. He patiently answered all my questions while describing each test and why it was important. Dr. Haleo was recommended by my daughter’s stepmother and father when she had a MRI that detected a mild issue. We scheduled an exam with him to ensure there was no pressure behind her eyes. He was so wonderful and did such a thorough exam and then met with us two days later with a case presentation. He took the time to demonstrate his findings so we could understand her diagnosis and “see what she sees”. He explained everything in a way that was easy for us to understand and make an educated decision regarding her treatment plan. Out $1585 for an exam to find out my son needs vision therapy. We thought this fee would cover more than just the exam and consult but we missed the fine print. Unfortunately after paying called many other vision therapist. All other vision therapist in the area charge a fraction of the cost. After pointing this out Vision Therapy of Charlotte was unwilling to work with us on cost reduction. Out $1585 for an exam to find out my son needs vision therapy. Dr. Steve is the only doctor after 3 and half years of dealing with my symptoms to take the time, in front of me, and thoroughly not only examine but go through every single possible scenario that could cause it. Then one by one rule them out. To boot, Dr. Steve took it upon himself to emphatically explain the needs to my PCP, who in turn told me that Dr. Steve was really good and must care due to the amount of effort put in. Undiagnosed strabismus (from 5th grade until I was in my 50s) led to reading problems. My field-of-vision would go blank/white for multiple seconds at random times. I could not judge distances (stairs or ladders) or walk long distances in a straight line. I developed coping mechanisms that resembled those of a partially blind person. I stopped public keyboard performance. My ophthalmologist prescribed prisms in my glasses. When surgery was described as my alternative to changing lenses every 3-to-6 months and between morning and evening, I found Dr. Haleo. Dr. Haleo returned my inquiry call after office hours. He was compassionate and confident that we could avoid surgery. He spent over 90 minutes during that call, screening for head-injuries since my childhood. He invited me to his office to plan therapy in a fixed price visit. He asked me to document accident-history prior to that visit. At my planning visit I observed Dr. Haleo’s rapport with young children and adults. Dr. Haleo explained the relevance of his many years of experience, quoted a fixed price for my therapy, and gave me confidence that my vision would improve. Dr. Haleo explained that he did not process Medicare, and that he could not guarantee that my supplemental carrier would pay any charges. We started multiple treatments each week for over three months. Improvement led to reducing the prism in my glasses. I was treated with respect and courtesy and always was informed in advance of any charges. Toward the end of my therapy, my bifocals caused discomfort when I started a trip. I took them off, and did not use them for the next 550 miles. I now have 20/20 distance vision with no glasses and use reading glasses for close work. I feel fortunate to have had the benefit of Dr. Haleo’s experience, personal attention, kindness, compassion, and extensive, relevant expertise – and learning something new at every session. Dr. Haleo never left a question unanswered, and he encouraged me always to be fully informed. I view Dr. Haleo as completely trustworthy and exceptionally suited for the cases that he treats. Anyone who has “white-outs”, computer/reading headaches, clumsy reaching for objects, or stop-action framing of on-coming objects may benefit from Dr. Haleo’s experience. Lower-priced practitioners may exist, but I cannot imagine anyone being any better – if as good – at diagnosing and customizing therapy. Dr. Haleo closely monitored every therapy session. I have known Dr. Haleo for many years and respect and admire his expertise and absolute dedication to helping me have as good eyesight as possible. His charges are fair, announced, justified, and explained as to what they would cover. Dr Haleo has made such a difference in the lives of both of my sons and our family overall. Dr Haleo not only drastically improved our sons’ visual processing, he improved their self-esteem. My kids blossomed under his care. And along the way, he taught me so much about how to relate to what my sons were experiencing and how to parent through it. He involved me in their care so I could do more at home and accelerate their progress. He was so experienced and knew exactly how to customize his approach, not only based on their unique needs but also based on their personalities and learning styles. I know the therapy isn’t cheap, but he is honest and candid from the very beginning. He charged exactly what he said he would and he went out of his way to address issues with our insurance, even without me asking him. You will never regret the investment when you see the difference he can make...you truly get what you pay for! You may think it’s better to go elsewhere where there is more staff, but you will find your kids being treated by someone who can follow the instructions of a doctor but can’t have the judgement to adjust as they go based on what is going on in session. Dr. Haleo would read the situation and he’d know if the plan he had outlined needed to be adjusted. If he heard something from the boys about a particular school topic that they were struggling with, he would find a way to integrate that into the therapy that day. He set the direction based on the highest priority. You will find this invaluable. On top of that, it is so rare to find a doctor who is not only professional and capable, but who is emotionally invested in the growth and success of your child. I've been a patient of Dr Haleo for years. His professional demeanor and in-depth analysis has provided me with the best eye experience I've ever had. I've worn contacts for years but none that have been specifically designed for the shape of my eyes. His thorough examination and thoughtful understanding of my discomfort issues solved the problems I was having. He is not the cheapest eye doctor in town, but in my opinion, clearly one of the best. When it comes to my vision, why would I want to pinch pennies. If you're looking for that, you should go to a discount vision center. My daughter, Natalia, started with Dr. Haleo on the first day of school. By the time October rolled around her vision had improved from 20/40 to 20/20. She still has issues but that is a huge improvement in such a short amount of time. Natalia loves Dr. Haleo. He does well in having her do the exercises that are needed while keeping her entertained enough that she doesn’t realize she is working hard. The initial exam was three hours long and he was very energetic and kept a running dialog with my daughter so that it seemed quite a shorter bit of time than what it really was. The girl is a wiggle worm and the exam was entertaining for her so that the time flew by. It was an in depth exam and I can appreciate the time and care that he put into examining Natalia to find out what her issues are. I knew going in I was going to have to pay out of pocket because vision therapy just isn’t covered by insurance. The amount that was quoted for the consultation and eye exam for Natalia was the exact price that I paid. Once the consultation was over we went back and talked about options on the best way to get the therapy that she needed. To Whom It May Concern Subject: Eye Care Provided by Dr. Steven L. Haleo My wife, Irene, had a serious stroke during a surgical operation. After the stroke, she had limited use of her left side, particularly her arm and leg, and her eye sight was severely affected by the stroke. She had extensive physical and occupational therapy to help with her mobility. She went to an eye specialist for her eye sight. After extensive testing by technicians, the eye specialist gave her little hope of improving her current condition. She was very disappointed and frustrated with the results of this experience. Then one of her physical therapists recommended that she contact Dr. Haleo. Unlike her experience with the eye specialist, Dr. Haleo personally performed extensive testing and evaluation. Dr. Haleo was very professional and caring in his evaluation and assessment. He was very open and honest about the cost of his services and his plan of treatment. He was very forthright and did not promise improvement, but he offered a course of treatment that would only be continued if real progress was being made. After almost a year of treatment and therapy, Irene has made significant progress. She can now see better and with more detail than she could before being treated by Dr. Haleo. She can read 90% better than before. She can read the moving information banners at the bottom of the TV screen which she could not do before. For the past 3 years, each member of our family has received great care and services from Dr. Haleo. The initial examination (over 3 hours I believe) is very thorough; It revealed more information than any of us had ever received from a prior eye exam. From there, Dr. Haleo set about addressing care appropriate to each of our needs. We have received prescriptions for eyeglasses, sport glasses, contact lenses, care for lid and corneal issues, and vision therapy for both of our teens. His treatment approach is unlike any we have ever experienced; he pays attention to every detail. I have been a patient of Dr. Haleo's for almost 6 months now, and can't thank him enough for the strides he has helped me make! I had a concussion 12 years ago which lead to post concussive syndrome. As my body adapted and made compensations over the years, it became less noticeable, but I continued to get headaches with reading, computer work, shifting my focus, motion sickness, getting thrown off balance when looking up, not feeling right with focusing, etc. I've been to multiple doctors over the years for the headaches, and even did Vestibular Therapy. As a healthcare professional myself who has a vast knowledge base on concussions, I was relieved when I filled out an inquiry and Dr. Haleo personally called me to talk for about an hour see if he thought he would be able to help me before automatically setting up an appointment. We set up a comprehensive evaluation for later that week, which was very thorough and very well done. Not only did Dr. Haleo explain everything that he was screening for, and how I performed on the individual tests, he also explained the "why" behind everything. I'm currently doing vision therapy with Dr. Haleo, and have noticed significant changes in my everyday life. I no longer get headaches when reading or doing computer work. I no longer lose my place when shifting my focus, nor do I get headaches or feel thrown off/not right. Most amazingly, I recently got back from a trip to Disney World and was able to instantly reorient myself when the Space Mission LAUNCH and the Tea Cups rides stopped! Dr. Haleo always took the time to explain to me exactly what they worked on each session and why they were doing everything. He really helped me to understand the challenges my son was facing and at the end of it all, fixed the problem. Dr. Haleo doesn't have a secretary or assistant, which I LOVED. Complicated visions issues that began with head injuries in my youth. Further complicating the issues was damage to my optics nerves related to a reaction to medication. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Haleo and he clearly explained his evaluation and treatment plan beginning with a very clear verbal explanation of his charges for both the evaluatation and treatment plan and he provided printed confirmation. After agreeing to his program he did an extensive evaluation of my vision. We then scheduled a meeting to evaluate the results, he suggested I bring my wife which I did. I was shocked at the results and we agreed to begin therapy which lasted nearly a year to correct the many issues. The results were outstanding and changed my life. My grandson was evaluated and treated 2 years ago for vision issues that were affecting his ability to copy and comprehend what was being written on the smart board or regular board in school. He had two major concussions in the past, that we believed had affected his visual abilities. My husband had received vision therapy here, that had dramatically improved his vision over the course of the year he was in treatment, and we had our grandson treated here also. He was able to show tremendous improvement at the end of the therapy that lasted almost a year. Dr. Haleo spends time testing and organizing each persons therapy plan. The cost for the course of therapy is thoroughly explained and written out for your review prior to agreeing to treatment. BEWARE. This Doctor charged me $1,500 for initial consultation and afterwards proceeded to tell me that in order to receive his services I had to pay another $9,000 in full before treatment could begin. Would not let me pay monthly or as I went along with treatment, as he claimed his office didn't have a "billing department" to process payments. Would not even give me prescription for eye glasses or contacts after consultation and wanted me to get them through him. HA
