Dr. Shields got me straight with my vicious hives, he didn’t beat around the bush. .I’m very grateful I went to his office

From the moment I saw Dr Shield- completely panicked that my 1 year old had an allergic reaction to peanut butter- he was so very calming. He spent his time making sure to run all of the needed tests as well as explaining in detail everything that was being done and why. He was patient and clear. I never felt rushed and I also felt like he listened and answered all of my questions. Over the course of a year, I would occasionally message him with questions I had. He was always very quick to answer my question. In one instance I asked about a re-test for my son and he gave me his professional advise but also said he would do it if I'd like. I had 100% trust in my sons care with him so I waited on that test until he recommended to do so. His office staff was wonderful every time I interacted with anyone. They showed patience and kindness to my son who is under 2 and loud and busy. Coming from a mother dealing with a first time serious allergy with her son- I felt I was in the best hands with Dr. Shield and his staff. I would absolutely recommend him to any adults or children that need to see an allergy specialist. Dr. Shield is very unprofessional and I do not recommend his services.

Save yourself months or even years of frustration and find another allergist--even if it means driving out of town. Dr. Shield is a fine doctor, but most of your time will be spent engaging with his office staff. And that's where the issues lie. In addition to seeming entirely disinterested, they routinely don't call back when they say they will, don't inform patients of critical lab results, forget to cancel appointments when asked (and then bill for a no show), and overall display an alarming lack of professionalism. Allergies and immune issues are no joke, and require conscientious care. Something that, I'm sad to say, we've found entirely absent over numerous years from his office. I see Dr Shields to help me manage my immune issues. He is empathetic and takes time to educate me on my condition while letting me chose the route we take to tackle my unique condition. I appreciate that he lets me make those decisions, especially since I prefer to stay away from medications and use more holistic and homeopathic options. He listens and is patient when I have lots of questions. It is very clear that he came into this industry with a passion for helping people and improving their quality of lives. Very grateful for him and his years of experience that he brings to Hampton Roads. No clinic is perfect and one patient can really put an entire office behind schedule for the entire day. Dr. Shield is very thorough and has done an amazing job! I had recurring sinus infections that he got to the root of and I feel so much better after seeing him for a few months. 100% recommend!

You can tell he cares about his patients. He is a great listener. He is very thorough. He is also very efficient. The online portal makes things very easy and his staff is on top of their game. Dr. Shield is as good of a doctor as you will find. If you are looking for a allergy doc in the Hampton Roads area, he’s your guy!

I experienced very debilitating allergy & Asthma related illnesses for years to include acute bronchitis numerous times a year for decades. I finally made an appointment with Dr. Sheild and he tested me for allergies and prescribed allergy shots which have been nothing short of a miracle. Now 2 years plus I have been playing golf during the peak allergy seasons and taking less medication to include less frequent allergy shots. I am steadily improving all pulmonary functions and can’t thank him adequately for having changed my appreciation for life’s good times.

Great Visit. Staff got me in on time and told me what would be going on. They ran couple tests. Doctor Shield came in and explained what everything meant. Got everything taken care of in a timely manner. Enjoyed talking with Dr. Shield and his staff. Feel very confident in the info they provided.

Very friendly, he listens and understands. Very pleased with care received.

Dr. Shield, I believe to be a good man, but his office manager has given me the run around for close to 7 months now. She has lied, mislead me and given me false information. My concern is that Dr. Shield has no idea what she is doing. In the end, I am contacting the AMA, have spoken to my attorney and searching for an allergist with an honest office manager.

Dr. Shield is great and has my child on the right track but some of the staff seem very disconnected. They have little to no customer service skills come off as uninterested and rude. I called to reschedule an appointment due to a work matter and was told "why cant you make it, the appointment is for 5pm". Maybe in a perfect world everyone's work day ends at 4pm but not mine. I was appalled at the rudeness. And now on top of that, I have to wait 2 months for a new appointment. Dr. Shield is amazing but this is ridiculous. On my first visit, I was maybe 50% satisfied. I thought it was a poor first impression. Dr. Shield came highly recommended to me so it was a big disappointment in the type of service I received. The staff then and continues to show no interest in the patient and have no clue about customer service or services provided in the office. I didn't get the results of some tests until many months later, but promised I would have them days after the tests. On my first visit, I was maybe 50% satisfied. Dr. Shield was the first doctor we met with (in a three year span!) that truly focused on our daughter's immune deficiency and helped our family get her the care she needed and deserved. He has been an excellent partner and resource for our daughter's care and was open to listening to our questions and ideas about different options and paths we'd considered. We happily travel over an hour to see him for her care and will continue to do so!

We were referred to Dr. Shield by my children's primary care pediatrician. Dr. Shield and his staff were kind, courteous, and prompt. He answered all of our questions & concerns. I would recommend him to anyone in the area looking for an allergy specialist. A++

I have multiple issues and was ill for 3 months and on 4 different antibiotics. I was referred to Dr Shield by my dermatologist. He did a blood work up and found my immunity was very low which explains my constant recurring illnesses ( sinus, respiratory, flu, etc.) I have celiac disease and Barrettes Esophagus, among other issues and to have him find out a REASON that I can't seem to get completely well AND offer an answer on how to fix it was INCREDIBLE!!! This was in just 2 appointments!

My son had severe allergies beginning at 5 years old. He began going to see Dr. Shield soon after and it was suggested he get allergy shots for 5 years. He's 10 now and all done with his shots - he's allergy free! We are happy with the entire experience.

This was my 4 year old daughter's first visit here. They came highly recommended. We sat in the back room for over an hour before finally going back out, getting the copay refunded and leaving. After an hour, I realized that I would never be coming back, so I saw no point in waiting. Terrible first impression.
