I have been seeing Dr. Powers for at least 3 - 4 years. I am not big on writing reviews, and in most cases visiting a psychiatrist is not something meant to be put out in the public domain. However, the fact that I can write about this is no doubt directly related to the help he has provided. He is an older man, with an old school Analyst approach to therapy, with a touch of religious faith that I found as a bit of a turn off at first. He truly wants to understand you, the patient, first before prescribing a bunch of drugs that only serve to mask a real problem. Personally, I never knew how deeply my abuse as a child had impacted my entire adult life until we slowly opened doors that had nothing but fear, guilt and anxiety behind them, issues I had blocked out and buried in the darkest parts of my mind. Since I travel a lot for work, I will call his wonderful office manager at the beginning of a week when I am home and she will call me if there is a cancellation so I get to see him as regularly as my job permits. Dr. Powers is very knowledgeable about psychotropic medications. He is very friendly & we relate well.

Called to get an appointment with Dr. Powers back in November and couldn't get anything until January. When my wife's uncle passed away, I called to reschedule and was told I could not because of the cancellation. To refuse to see a patient over a cancellation due to a death in the family is ridiculous. Will have to look for a new doctor and wait a few more weeks to be seen. Very disappointing. Had a surgery and should of returned to work within 2 weeks. Never happens. The day of discharge no one looked at my incision. I ended up with 2 spinal fluid leaks, rare type of meningitis and then hydrocephalus all from October to February with 5 different surgeries and then I had to go to rehab for 2 1/2 weeks. This was 3 1/2 years ago. Since then I've had an unsteady gait, dizziness, neuropathy and 2 more VP shunt placements this year cause of the same type of meningitis by another surgeon.
