A good competent doc he confidently broke down my concerns and explained my knee discomfort

The Dr is terrific. We took an early appointment so we did not have to wait too long to get to see doctor. Pleasant and efficient staff!

After long enduring painful knees, I visited Dr. Nicholas for an assessment and recommendation. While knee replacement is probably impending for this 70 year old sports enthusiast body, in the meantime Dr. Nicholas recommended knee shots to increase my limited mobility and reduce soreness. I still can’t dunk a basketball, but I feel like a fifty year old again. My sister recommended that I see Dr. Nicholas and I couldn’t be happier that I took her advice.

It was very easy to sign in for this tele visit. I just needed to speak to Dr. Nicholas, not necessary for an office visit. So this service is very convenient for both the doctor and the patient. My next appointment will be an office visit.

A long wait Very busy waiting room

Dr Nicholas could care less about managing my pain. I called the office and left him secure messages a week ago, still waiting for a response. Meanwhile I’m in excruciating pain, it’s nerve pain so ibuprofen or naproxen won’t touch it. I’m missing work and having trouble sleeping. I’m not sure what the point of messaging is if no one gets back to you. Would not recommend him. Plus he’s only in Manhattan on Tuesdays. He was literally the only dr taking new patients that takes my insurance.

Dr. Nicholas spent time explaining my varied issues and how we can deal with them. He has always been there for me over a span of more than 16 years. He is an excellent doctor, empathetic, caring, and has somehow maintained a sense of humor in dealing with me and the things I shouldn’t do that cause issues. He also is a listener and responds quickly to questions on my portal. I am grateful he is still my doctor.

Very busy office; at same time, very efficient. Easy to make appointment and was seen on next business day. So far, so good.

Dr. Nicholas is the most admired physician I’ve ever encountered. He is accommodating, very accomplished, top’s in his field of sports medicine and orthopedics. I was able to secure an appointment quickly and didn’t have to wait long. Best cortisone shot I’ve had over the years; no pain. His bedside manner is perfect.

My experience with Dr. Nicholas was not good. I went to him with a painful hip, thinking I might need surgery. He took x-rays and told me I had osteoarthritis. He did not recommend surgery immediately but prescribed 6 weeks of physical therapy. I did this but it did not help. I then returned and he took x-rays and said I would need a hip replacement. He did no physical examination, barely spent 10 minutes with me, gave me no explanation of what type of surgery it would be. He just told me to "schedule the surgery with my assistant." I got the impression he had zero concern about my situation and just wanted to operate. His office is like a factory: schedule the operation and dollar it up. He spent about 20 minutes TOTAL time for two visits. I decided to get a second opinion and went the the Hospital for Special Surgeries. The doctor looked at the x-rays and told me I did NOT have osteoarthritis after all. The hip bones were not even rubbing against each other. He thought I probably had bursitis and recommended an injection of anti-inflammatory medicine and told me to see how it went. I have now been totally out of pain now for more than six weeks, walking without any discomfort. I may need another injection at some point, but I avoided an unnecessary surgery for a condition I did not have. Dr. Nicholas could not even READ the x-ray correctly! I realize others may have had a good experience with Dr. Nicholas, but I would urge anyone seeing him to get a second opinion before letting him cut you. Dr. Nicholas and NY Orthopedics completely surpassed my expectations. The doctor and his staff are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. Dr. Nicholas was able to diagnose a very complicated knee issue and create an effective treatment plan. I highly recommend this group.

Had Docter Nick over 27 years. I had Acl and rotator cuff surgery in early 90's my knee and shoulder is still going strong.

Five star, first class, A+, would describe my experience with Dr. Nicholas and his team. My procedure was a left knee arthroscopy. Dr. Nicholas, Dr Joseph, Dr Christopher Riegler (anesthesiologist) and Karen (prep) were informative, comforting and supportive. Every detail was perfect in process right down to kind Rebecca “Ricky” whom walked me out after my pristine experience. The level of attention to detail was second to none, the experience felt like the highest level of care that could be imaginable and as I was coming out of recovery, I witnessed the then entering patients in prep, receiving the exact same level of kindness, patience and excellence. The Dr is terrific. The office staff scheduled the appointments too close to each other. I had an 8:15 appointment and did not see the Dr until 8:50.

Very good, diagnostic issues quickly and proscribed treatment.

Entire practice is excellent including staff.. I am a long term patient from broken ribs to cracked patella. Always know I get the best care.

I explained my issue, Dr Nicholas listened and recommended an X-ray. He then proscribed some physical therapy and a follow up in a few months to reevaluate. He was extremely professional and helpful.

Dr. Stephen J. Nicholas is expert in his field. I have had at least 3 surgeries, including hip replacement and rotator cuff, treatment for spinal stenosis and sciatica, severe back pain, as well as other joint pain and problems, through NY Orthopedics. Dr. Stephen Nicholas has a superb team of highly skilled professionals for all your orthopedic ailments. They are compassionate, knowledgeable and proficient beyond my best expectations! I prefer NY Orthopedics over HSS and any other such practices in NYC. After more than 10 years of being treated by Dr. Nicholas, I can attest that he and the practitioners in his employ are, by far, the best of the best, the creme de la creme of orthopedic specialists. I have had both hips and my right knee replaced in 20 months. Dr. Nicholas is an excellent Surgeon. I highly recommend him. The entire staff is supportive, generous and works really well together. I have transformed my health having these surgeries and have been recovering beautifully. I am so grateful to Dr Nicholas!

I am very pleased with Dr Nicholas’s extensive rebuilding of my shoulder. Scheduling of appt was quick as well as surgery appt.Well treated by staff. Dr Nicholas personable and experienced. 6/1/18 surgery no problems still.

20 days postoperative patellar autograft ACL repair and I’m way ahead of PT schedule. If you are in the Tri-State area and in need of a top-notch Orthopaedic surgeon, I would personally recommend Dr. Nicholas. He repaired my distal biceps repair 12/17/18 and ACL+meniscus 3/8/19. He and his staff (PA’s Rocco & George, and scheduler Andrea) are wonderful. Based on the strength rec I saw him out of my PPO network - he’s that good (I’ve had hx of 2x rotator shoulder repair - not my first rodeo).

Dr. Nicholas immediately left me with the impression I didn’t deserve much of his time. He performed a total knee replacement, and from the beginning there were problems and the pain never left.. I kept going back, and he blamed me for not doing strength exercises. My physical therapist said he wasn’t being honest, because I had full use of it and biked. It was never good, so I went to another doc who said the replacement was installed loose. I’m still in pain, and now I have to do it again

Dr. Nicholas performed a left knee ACL reconstruction surgery for me in March 2001. After the surgery , I was trying to shower that evening balancing myself in the shower, trying not to put any weight on my left leg. My wife knocked on the door and said Dr. Nicholas was on the phone. Perfect timing. Dr. Nicholas explained it was healthy to try to put weight on the leg as soon as possible. Recent test studies showed you recover faster. How is that for caring for your patients? I recommend him.
