About Dr. Stephen Howard Mandy
Reviews for Dr. Stephen Howard Mandy
Dr. Mandy is a terrible doctor, and I deeply wish I had never gone to him. In short, he is a condescending egoist who not only lacks any modicum of bedside manner, but is a dinosaur grossly devoid of adequate and current knowledge of the medicine he practices. Initially, I selected Dr. Mandy primarily for convenience. I needed to undergo Accutane treatment, which requires monthly follow-ups; his office is located only 5 minutes away from my home. At our first visit, I found him curmudgeonly and rudely terse, even to his PA. I also found it a bit unsettling that he was completely ignorant of the fact that one should take Accutane with food (Accutane is a lipophilic drug best absorbed when taken with a high-fat meal; in fact, it is well known that failure to do so may lead to inadequate bioavailability/drug absorption levels). Despite these red flags, I stuck with him out of convenience. I just wanted to start Accutane without having to drive a far distance on a monthly basis. Over the next several months, I continued to see Dr. Mandy every month for my Accutane treatment. His rudeness continued, with a healthy dose of condescension, to boot; think trying to ask a question and, before even completing your thought, being abruptly cut off and replied to with utter annoyance. However, I needed the Accutane, so I kept seeing Dr. Mandy. Towards the end of my Accutane course, I discussed scar treatment options with Dr. Mandy. He recommended silicon injections and laser resurfacing. I very, very unfortunately heeded his advice and underwent the silicon injections. All he told me about them was that they were effective (wrong), safe (wrong), and permanent. I was a bit concerned when he told me that they were permanent, but he assured me that they were completely safe and would be administered as "microdroplets." The horrifying thing is what he failed to tell me - that even years later, silicon can trigger a disfiguring inflammatory response in which the body forms granulomas. I've since learned this while consulting with other (competent) dermatologists to undergo subcision for my acne scars, which IS actually effective. However, I've been advised that there is a risk I will develop disfiguring granulomas because of the silicon (which could also happen anyway, even without the subcision). So, now I'm stuck with the silicon, the scars, and possibly disfiguring granulomas down the road. Lastly, and perhaps most alarming, Dr. Mandy wanted to surgically resect a giant tumor from my back in his office with local anesthesia. I had developed what appeared to be a lipoma that was about the size of a grapefruit. True to his know-it-all personality, he scoffed at me when I asked whether I should have a CT scan or other imaging performed first to rule out something more nefarious. Thank God I didn't go through with him doing the procedure. I ended up seeing an oncological surgeon, who was concerned enough that my lesion could have been CANCER that she ordered an ultrasound and an MRI before surgery. My surgery was under general anesthesia and left me with hanging surgical drains. When I told her that Dr. Mandy had wanted to remove it in his office, she was floored. She said I would have ended up in the hospital mid-procedure, and that it would have been a total "botch-job" that would have likely caused the cancer (liposarcoma) to spread like wildfire. My urgent advice is to avoid Dr. Mandy at all costs. Dr. Mandy is a terrible doctor, and I deeply wish I had never gone to him. Dr. Mandy is a terrible doctor. In short, he is a condescending egoist who not only lacks any modicum of bedside manner, but is a dinosaur grossly devoid of adequate and current knowledge of the medicine he practices. He's curmudgeonly and rudely terse, even to his PA; think trying to ask a question and, before even completing your thought, being abruptly cut off and replied to with utter annoyance. He was completely ignorant of the fact that one should take Accutane with food to maintain sufficient bioavailability. He administered dangerous silicon injections to my acne scars without advising me of the risk of developing disfiguring granulomas. Worst of all, he wanted to surgically resect a giant tumor he thought was a lipoma from my back in his office with local anesthesia. Thankfully, I had an oncological surgeon remove it under general anesthesia; she said if he had removed it, it would have been a botch job and, if cancerous, could have spread like wildfire.
Dr Mandy is wonderful!
It was quick and easy. Gave me a lot of helpful tips, helped me get rid of my cysts acne faster. I loved it.
Dr. Mandy was short tempered and questioned my visit. He was quick to dismiss my concerns and said it was a waste of a visit. The mole in question for review had some concerning changes and he dismissed them all. I will be going elsewhere.

I definetely will not come back to this doctor. Doctor was not paying attention to what I wanted to explain. He subscribed a medication from a pharmacy in Ct where they refer business to. After two weeks of not getting the medication, I had to call 3 times to the Dr office to get it. The staff was very rude and careless. I definetely will not come back to this doctor. In best hands!
I have been a patient of Dr De Campo - a different doctor in mandy's office - for 5 years. w
Doctor Mandy and his staff far exceeded my expectations. The office staff were very accommodating in getting me a same day appointment and his physician assistant was very helpful in calming my nerves. Dr Mandy had great bed side manner and explained in detail the specificities of my concerns.

Thank you for the many years of improvement you have given me. Not only are you an artist in your field, but you do it with kindness and modesty. You keep me looking as good as possible, which means everything as the years progress.
Very good A+ experience. I always have a lot of questions and requests for my dermatologists, and unfortunately, most of them fall short or don't make enough time to help with everything. Dr. Mandy dealt with all of my issues and questions and exceeded my expectations. His staff was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I'll definitely recommend him to friends and will be returning again for follow ups. Very good A+ experience. Dr. Mandy was thorough and to the point, lacks in personality but I go for excellent healthcare care. His physician assistant was excellent. His staff was quick and just as thorough. I would definitely go back.
