About Dr. Stephen Wayne George
Reviews for Dr. Stephen Wayne George
I would not recommend Dr. George. He is a very poor communicator and disorganized. He was dismissive about several of my systems because they did not fall directly within his expertise. During my appt, he left three separate times for an issue with a different patient. It seemed like he didn't know what to do with me and didn't care at all about my situation. DO NOT SEE THIS DOCTOR.
I took my 12 year old son to see Dr. George for an issue with his knee. When Dr. George had to remove fluid from my son's knee and administer a cortizone shot, he did so in the best way possible. My son was incredibly stressed out prior to our visit with Dr. George as his past experience with removing fluid and cortisone shots was terribly painful. However, Dr. George's process is much less painful and my son felt almost nothing. I also found him to be very personable and will go to him if ever we need his assistance.
My Wife fought Doctor after Doctor to find out what was wrong with our usually active Son, who’s movement dwindled over a years time and we were finally referred to Dr. George. Once there, we learned that Not Marker Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis has typically already been the cause of Hip Replacement Surgery before he is seen, but Thanks to him and his diagnosis, our Son has recovered from taking Humara for the last 6 years and is no down to 1 shot a month, with the possibility of getting of it soon. Our Active Son is more than active now as an Adult, thanks to Dr. George and Doctors at Sinai who referred us to him. I do believe that many 1 Star reviews are far too low just because he is not personable. I’ll take a non personable Expert Doctor over a know nothing Polite Doctor every time.
Dr. George did not listen to me and he was condescending and arrogant during my visit. Afterward my primary care physician told me that Dr. George advised him he does not do well with patients that have psychiatric illnesses. Never has it been suggested or diagnose that I have a psychiatric illness. My primary care physician described Dr. George's comments as inappropriate and unprofessional. I will never visit or recommend this troubled man.
Horrible visit. Dr. George has a terrible bedside manner, didn't listen to me, and then tells my primary care physician he doesn't do well with patients with psychiatric illness. When my primary care physician told me that I was aghast and angry because I have never been diagnosed with psychiatric illness and it has never been suggested that I might need psychiatric help. My primary care doctor found Dr. George's comments inappropriate and unprofessional. I will never recommend him.

Dr. George is the BEST pediatric rheumatologist! If your child has JRA and you want complete care, straight talk and decades of experience, please choose Dr. George. Dr. George is direct with parents and gentle with children. I appreciate that he mentors medical students and advocates for pediatricians to learn more about JRA and rheumatology. We drove 45 minutes out of DC for his practice, and have recommended him to friends several times since.
Have to say that my experience with Dr George was a good experience. He spent an hour with me the first time I saw him. Dr. George ‘s methodology in initial visit with me was to present all labs, films and past treatment laid out for analysis. We developed a treatment plan together and even plan B should it be needed.debra21784@gmail.com
My wife took our son to see Dr. George. He was extremely rude and dismissive. He accused her of abusing our son, in front of our son. He spoke to our son in such a manner that had him in tears when they left. He wants to pump our son full of medicine but won’t let my wife know of the side effects. All he said was that ‘they’ know what the side effects are. We are very hesitant at this point. Wondering if it would have gone a different direction if I was there. I am very displeased with the treatment I just received from who ever answered the phone at Dr. Steven George, Md office. My daughter was diagnosed by her Primary Care doctor as having some form of Lupus. I simply called Dr. Georges office and the lady asked me if she has been diagnosed with Lupus. The reason for me calling Dr. George is to find out what is going on with my daughter's health. I was referred to Dr. George because he is a Pediatric and Adult Rheumatoid Doctor. This person tells me that what I was told regarding the bloodwork was not lupus and she kept disregarding the fact that my daughter needs to see Dr. George to determine if she in fact has lupus. The receptionist should not be giving medical advice to anyone especially someone over the phone that is not even Dr. Georges patient. Her demeanor and customer Service was very condescending and rude. I will gladly take my daughter somewhere else where we are not badgered by the staff and given medical advice by the staff. Primary Care physicians refer patients to rheumatoid specialist to confirm any diagnosis they may or may not have.....not to be given medical advice by a receptionist. This review will not allow me to post this without giving Dr. Georges one star....after the way I was talked to they deserve no stars. My son was diagnosed with Lyme Arthritis and had a swollen knee that refused to go back to a normal size. We went through the rounds at Kaiser and even spent a week at Children's National Hospital in DC and went home with an iv and home nurse. Our insurance changed (thank God) and we saw Dr. George. He drained it put an anti-inflammatory in it and it returned to normal! My son was diagnosed with Lyme Arthritis and had a swollen knee that refused to go back to a normal size. Dr. George is by far the best Arthritis Dr. in the area. We drive two hours to see him and my son has seen him since he was in pediatrics and now as an adult. My son is now 8 hours away an still uses this doctor. His pain and deterioration is minimized and he leads a normal life. I will say Dr. Georges nurse Jessica is also wonderful, we love her shoes! Office staff is over burdened I believe and so sometimes things do not happen the way you would like them to but I have also seen them go above and beyond. When you are a sought after doctor, that can happen. Nothing is ever perfect. Dr. George is by far the best Arthritis Dr. in the area. He misdiagnosed me, would call me stupid, was mean and cold and has zero bedside manner. Stay away if you want good medical care.
He needs a 10 STAR!!!! He really is the best. My daughter started seeing him in 9th grade and from the beginning he was amazing and checked out each joint . Listened and asked questions. fast forward to this year, her 2nd year in college he just proved why he is the best ever!!! She goes to college in TENN. and was having knee pain and knew it needed to be drained. she had a rheumy in tenn to simply be able to get her infusions, so she went there to be treated. That dr was completely incompetent . he couldn't drain it...... She drove 10 hours home just to see DR George because she knew he would be able to help her . He drained a crazy amount of fluid off her knees ( which HE could have done with his eyes closed). He is so knowledgeable and thoughtful in his treatment process and plan. He breaks things down for you to understand and is very patient. He does a thorough joint exam each visit which is great and documents everything. The staff is amazing as well.
Hello, I do not do this much at all, but anyone looking for a great Doctor, Dr. George would be the one I would want to see. I have been going to him for over 20 years,He gives you his full attention, he is compassionate, He is very good at what he does, He also is one that you do not mind seeing because he makes you feel very comfortable. 20 years of seeing the same Doctor saids a lot. I love him, I only positive things to say about him.
Dr. George is an excellent doctor, he has been seeing my Daughter since she was 7/8 years old at Charles Street office and University of Maryland Hospital and now at his Columbia office and still continues to see her now at the age of 34, I've been very Happy with him as my Daughter is as well. As for the office staff that's totally different story, the office staff seems to forget to pass messages to him at different time's, but being a mother I'm a persistent parent at time's. Top doc of the year? You have got to be kidding. I may be the only patient he ever turned away. Oh, wait...no. He also turned away my 12 year old son. So I disagree with majority opinion. I've been sick for 3 years. So sick my hair is falling out for the second time. I have all of the signs and strange results on labs. For nearly 2 years he dismissed lab results and symptoms as being due to my meds. (Guilty for self treating before getting in to see him - good thing or I'd be dead by now). He drew more than 50 tubes - checking and rechecking for autoimmune disease (ADAPTIVE immune system). Turns out I have IgG deficiency. And CAEBV (high DNA copies; no cure). And a PIK3CD mutation. Turns out there's a whole other side of the immune system - the INNATE immune system(who knew!) that causes AUTOINFLAMMATORY disorders. And there are immune DEFICIENCY disorders (who knew!). He missed it all. (If you're a really good doctor laughing at this, please email me).
Great rheumatologist and diagnostician!
Dr George came across as very knowledgeable, interested in explaining his diagnosis, willing to answer questions, and overall very capable. One of the best doctor interactions I’ve ever had.
It is very rare that I complete a review; however, my experience with Dr. George and his staff was one of the best I have had with any doctor. He took the time to listen to my concerns, history, and examined each affected joint and then gave me a diagnosis, which no other doctor had been able to do until now. The swelling has already reduced in my fingers after months of being very swollen. Other doctors just took a cursory look at my hand prescribed medication, but not Dr. George!!!
I have never met a doctor that has more skill or more compassion for his patients as Dr. George. I love his expertise and love how he treats his patients. My mother was his patient before me. When she was in the hospital I went to visit & Dr. George was there checking on her. He saw my hands and said, “ I could help you.” That was in the 90’s. I see him regularly as my primary dr. A lot of specialists seen my mother & didn’t know what was wrong. Called Dr. George & he knew the problem & helped.
I have been a patient of Dr. George for over 10 years. He has treated our daughter for Lyme and me for tendonitis/arthritis. He is simply the best! While other doctors may rush you out the door, he is incredibly knowledgeable and compassionate. He takes his time with every patient- getting to know them & to diagnose tough rheumatoid issues, presumably quite a challenge. I wouldn't go to another rheumatologist & wouldn't hesitate to refer friends and family to this gentle, yet aggressive, doctor
Dr. George is an excellent Doctor. I went from months of extreme pain to no pain in a matter of a week. I have been without pain for years. Because of Dr. George I can live a normal everyday life. He is a lifesaver!

My daughter was a patient of Dr. George for almost 3 years. Other than prescribing Naproxen for her JIA he did very little to help my daughter even in areas where I kept addressing concern. He completely overlooked a major sign of JIA which is TMJ, Jaw joint erosion. By the time her oral surgeon discovered it (which she noticed right away when she walked in the room) and confirmed with X-rays for her wisdom teeth extraction, she was already at stage 3 which requires surgery. Will never go back.

Dr. George is amazing. He is currently treating our 3 year old daughter with JIA (Juvenile Idopathic Arthritis). He is very patient with her and makes her as comfortable as possible while we are there. He takes time to answer all questions and explain the disease to us. Also, he is very adamant about what needs to be done as far as treatment, tests and follow up. Nothing is able to slip through the cracks.
