This doctor is very knowledgeable in his field and is very personable. I feel very confident in any decision that he makes that he has my best interest in making the decision. Recently, I had to have a bone marrow biopsy. Dr. Shao made sure I was aware of everything in the procedure and I had no pain. I would strongly recommend him if you have cancer or a hematological issue. He is an outstanding doctor. This doctor is very knowledgeable in his field and is very personable. He is very knowledgeable and I strongly feel that he has my best interest when making health decisions. I am very comfortable with his recommendations and he is personable. He doesn't put on airs because he is a doctor which is refreshing. He is simply the best.

Dr. Shao was great! It's important to have a doctor who is "there" for me and makes me confident I'm in good hands. I met Dr. Shao after my long-time oncologist, Dr. Look, left the clinic. Visit went smoothly, Dr Shao answered all my questions and provided good suggestions and guidance to manage my condition.

These folks are incompetent. They have destroyed all of my veins in both arms. They usually miss. Incompetent morons. Do NOT visit these clowns. They claim to be Oncologists, but I have gotten better service at a Blood Bank. Go elsewhere. These morons just want you money... Well, you insurance money. They figure that you are gonna die soon anyway... Just grab the cash while it is available.

Great place for healthcare

Dr Shao was not very good to me. He doesn't understand English extremely well. He doesn't really understand or answer your questions. One time I wrote him a letter asking him some important questions, and he never answered. Instead some idiot nurse of his sent me a condescending letter which did not answer my questions at all. On the website, the clinic claims to care about the customers, but that is not at all what happened with Dr Shao and his staff. They really did not care. How hard is it to answer a letter? I did not feel like Dr Shao listened to me. Was not answering my questions. On the other hand I found the staff amazing. One staff member took me under her wing,as my primary doctor was not answering my calls, so she personally called the office.

Always a pleasure to go to Compass Oncology. The staff there are so kind and car. Knowing the reason for being there in the first place is quite depressing. You are made to feel welcome and like “somebody”. It makes for what would normally be a “bad” visit into a most tolerable one.

I have reached 90 years of age due to the great care I have received. Think that says it all.

Dr. Spencer Shao has been my hematologist since 2003. My journey has been up and down and Dr. Shao has always kept me informed of new treatments for which have been approved over the years. He is kind, respectful, honest (good or bad), and takes the time that I need. I would highly recommend his service.

Dr. Spencer Shao is an excellent oncologist who I deeply appreciate for effectively treating my Stage IV breast cancer for the past 15 years. His kindness, intelligence and communication is exemplary. From the moment he explained the metastatic condition of my disease to the present day he has been a terrific guide. I recommend his care to others wholeheartedly and will be forever grateful for his wonderful care.

I was referred to Dr. Shao by my PCP to investigate a matter. I like that Dr. Shao is straightforward about what is or is not important to pursue and spend money to investigate. He has been very helpful.

I greatly appreciate Dr. Shao’s proactive approach to determining what was going on with my body. He is very persistent and didn’t give up until he arrived at an accurate assessment of some suspicious areas visible in a ct scan. Dr. Shao communicates and shares information in a clear and direct manner. He is personable and answered all of my numerous questions. Dr. Shao has also implemented a continuing care plan for me. I can only give my highest recommendation for Dr. Shao as a caring and talented healthcare provider.

Dr Shao didn't really understand my questions. I guess it's because English is not his first language. He "answered" my questions without answering the real question. He does not really listen to what I say. He does not remember what I've told him before. He only spends about five minutes with me when I see him. I had a problem and I sent him a letter about it via US Postal Service, but I got no response. I guess he's too important to answer my letter, even though I pay thousands of dollars for his service. He just does not care. He gives sugary-sweet answers to negative reviews on this web page, but he couldn’t answer a letter. And of course, I have cancer! I feel like maybe I'm just a dollar sign for Dr Shao. Compass Oncology says on this web page that “your opinion matters greatly to us!” but when it came to real life -- Dr Shao and the others did not care at all.

Dr. Shao walked me through two bouts of Lymphoma. I was frustrated by his communication methods but have come to believe that he was guiding me to own my fight with Lymphoma. I have been symptom free since July 2020. I hope I have been cured but regardless, I am prepared should I have a relapse largely due to the respect shown to me by Dr. Shao in allowing me to find my inner strength. I’m am a stronger person due to Doctor Shao’s expertise as a medical professional.

I have been so appreciative of Dr. Shao over the years. He's wonderful! I just don't feel comfortable with his doctor office in the Rose Quarter... I don't like driving through the "Portland mess" to attend my appointments. I would rather visit the Tigard Office.

Dr. Shao is very thorough-going. My actual therapy ended 18 months back, but he has kept in touch with my condition and recently recommended thyroid supplements.

Do not recommend him. Terrible bed side manners. Short on time every time, just a number to him. Also, prescribed treatment with minimal checks to the point we switched to another clinic where things changed dramatically for the better. My brother was on his death bed with month to live and declining when we switched. The treatment he was on was doing him more harm than good. Luckily we got out of there in time, he was monitored weekly for a year at other place, Providence to be exact. He has been better and has enjoyed a quality of life for past year and a half that he did not think he would have. Please... Get second opinions... your life depends on it! Ps. I had written a review before and it makes me sad that it is not here still. I think people have the right to know what the past patients think.

We had a very good experience during Chemo and radiation therapy. Left after to do the required surgery. The main reason was the poor communication with Dr Shao. It was always like he was short of time to answer questions and wanted to move on to the next patient. We had questions that never got answered and in the new location the exact opposite happened with all the time we needed and then some.

Love this man. He saved my life. Wonderful doctor. I highly recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Shao is a very knowledgeable and caring doctor. I trust him completely. I do wish he would sometimes explain more fully what he is thinking and what options there might be, but overall I recommend him highly.

Despite the fact that I was at Compass in the first place for something that wasn't positive, I have only had incredibly positive experience with Dr. Shao and every member of the supporting staff at Compass. There were a lot of times where I was high-strung, emotional, and disorganized, and I was never treated with anything but compassion and professionalism. Everything from physical to financial concerns has always been addressed promptly and efficiently. From the nurses upstairs being incredibly kind during difficult chemo sessions, to staff helping me understand what would be needed for follow-up care so that I could chose my insurance wisely, to staff continuing to answer questions I've had about side effects--I couldn't ask for anything to have been handled differently or better. Bottom line is that it was a scary time when I was at my worst as a person and I was never made to feel that I was being difficult or dramatic.
