I am so fortunate Dr. Fung immediately extend me both professional insight and compassion in his urgent referral of my case to inflammation specialist Dr. Edmund Tsui after my Keck ophthalmologist was not allowed to refer my case for the specialist evaluation. I was immediately had two visits prior to the holiday season. During the holiday vacation, I had a flare up and Dr. Tsui came to the office just for me. I am so grateful for the dedication, compassion and expertise of these two top notch physicians.

This doctor is rather unhelpful and rude. I reached out to explain a new procedure that I was interested in exploring. He claimed not to do consultations unless seen. I understand and respect that but I was asking GENERAL questions AND I live out of state at the current time (moved during the early days of the pandemic). The surgery I was interested involves two surgeons so, I asked who (when he does this surgery) does he pair and is this even a possibility for my type of diagnosis. I was instructed to make an appointment via his scheduler. I asked again and got nothing so, I called his assistant and said I would make an appointment but wanted to get these answers prior because I have had two tumor resections (brain). I don't want to spin my wheels and waste my time. You would think any decent doctor would appreciate that and have a modicum of compassion.Needless to say, I never heard back from his assistant. I also was looking at the reviews on Google and I would steer clear of doctors with a lot of reviews by people with only ONE or two reviews. Often these are 'incentivized.' Infer as you should. Miracle worker. That’s exactly how I see Dr. Simon Fung. I have so much respect and gratitude for this genius Dr. whom after just one visit was able to diagnose exactly what was wrong with my eye which had been red and extremely irritated for about 10 months. After countless visits to different eye doctors, specialists and even rheumatologists who couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me…and after treatment with many different medication‘s and all kinds of bloodwork to rule out an auto immune disease, Dr. Fong was able to diagnose immediately and get me treated. He thinks outside of the box and is a problem solver. I had a minor procedure which removed a tiny little molluscum from my eyelid which was creating all the inflammation. No one else even thought about that. Unreal. The next day my eye was perfect. If that wasn’t enough, Dr. Fung‘s personality and warm bedside manner made me feel at ease immediately. My son (Sushant, 6 year old) had a mole in his eye that first started appearing when he was 2 years old and was growing in diameter each year. I was referred to Dr. Fung when we first visited Dr. Raghu C Murthy who practices in Beverly Hills LA. We feel blessed to have met Dr. Fung and our journey from there was all smiles. Details: Dr. Simon Fung diagnosed the mole to be Conjunctiva Nevus of the right eye, and he ascertained to us that it’s a benign. Dr. Fung provided clear advice on the procedure if we choose to get it done. The confidence that Dr. Fung instills is just comforting for anxious parents like us who are fragile due to the situation on their kids. Its only due to the trust we had in Dr. Fung’s expertise that we took a leap of faith into getting this surgery done. The surgery was optional but the Mole in my sons eye was quite big and we wanted get the excision done as there was a tiny possibility of it turning into a malignant/ cancerous one. Surgery: Dr. Fung had called in a day before the surgery to check if everything was fine with my son, which is such a great gesture. Even on the day of surgery, Dr. Fung was equally comforting to us before and after the surgery and his confidence in what he does is just great. The procedure was complete in 3.5 hours and we were back home the same afternoon. Dr. Fung had called me over phone next day to check on my son. Post the surgery Sushant has never complained of pain and with minimal medication, within 15 days he was back to his normal routine. I am writing this review 50 days post the surgery and after completing all the post surgery followup appointments. He went out of his way to help, and has now aligned us with the proper doctor, and medication to resolve the issue. Thank you Dr. Fung for all that you do. Our daughter was diagnosed with a unique eye condition when she was 4 months old. And we were lucky enough to be referred to Dr Fung. He met with us within an hour's notice on a Friday evening. He conducted a thorough analysis, spent as much as we needed to educate us, changed his schedule and penciled her in for an emergency surgery the following business day. Dr. Fung even answered more questions multiple times over that weekend. Despite how kind and intelligent Dr Fung was during our initial meeting, we were still very nervous and quite apprehensive with the surgery. We then researched his educational background and achievements. Dr Fung is absolutely brilliant. He was not only trained by one of the most prominent opthamology centers in the world, but he actively publishes in the top journals in his field. He has a tremendous amount of experience and is a problem solver. We did our due diligence -- and reached out to our network of friends and family who are doctors. Everyone who knew about the issue we were having led us to the same place - Dr. Fung. One of the doctors we interviewed said he wasn't the right person but if we could get time with Dr. Fung, he would be our guy. Most importantly, Dr Fung is extremely caring and treats each patient as his own child. He makes himself available, even on weekends, and is willing to answer all questions and address any concerns. I did not know what to expect when I had to see an eye surgeon for my 7 month old son with a congenital cataract, but I can tell you that after our first appointment with Dr. Fung, I knew our son was in good hands. He held my son for me while I signed the consent for his surgery and he played with him all while explaining everything and walking me through the consent. He also worked to get my son’s surgery done very quickly. We have followed up with him over the months following and have only had pleasant experiences, even though my son was less than cooperative at times. We are now moving and will no longer be seeing Dr. Fung but he has sent me every detail that I will need to share with my son’s new Dr once we establish care. We came to Dr. Fung after the shock of finding out that our 3 year old had developed cataracts in the summer of 2019. Previously, we had seen another pediatric ophthalmologist but did not feel comfortable. Dr. Fung is very talented. He is knowledgeable, patient with children, and respectful of people's time while never rushing. Our son had surgeries with him in 2019 and 2020, and we felt very comfortable with him performing the surgeries and with the after care we have received. Dr. Fung recommended surgery right away and we opted to place her care in his hands. Dr Fung is a highly intelligent, kind and compassionate professional. Our child has received care from a couple other doctors for glaucoma but no one has come close to the quality of care that Dr Fung has provided for our 6yo. He is gentle and our child is very comfortable with him and his entire staff. We travel every few months to California for appointments and he and his staff always tries to accommodate our schedule as much as possible. I’ve never actually enjoyed going to a doctor’s appointment, but Dr. Fung’s efficiency and relatable manner made getting my eye checked downright fun. I appreciate that he always took time to explain things, he was always courteous and approachable, and he has a fantastic sense of humor.

My 15 year old son was born with a dermoid cyst and we thought there wasn't anything we could do for him. Dr. Fung performed a cornea transplant surgery and helped him. He was very professional but still very reassuring. He takes time to answer all my emails and his assistant Yvette accommodates my requests as much as possible. We continue to see him every month and he makes it a point to talk to my son when he sees him even while we are still in the waiting room. We are very grateful for him. My 3 year old son was diagnosed with cataracts, and Dr. Fung and his team performed the cataracts removal surgeries and lens implants for him. The care we’ve received from Jules Stein Eye Institute and Dr. Fung and team has been exceptional in a number of ways: 1-Dr. Fung, in addition to being a skilled physician in a highly specialized area of pediatric ophthalmology, also quickly established trust with us and with our son. This made the experience a lot easier for everyone, and eased a lot of the stress and anxiety we had over the process. In fact, our son was so comfortable that he invited Dr. Fung to join our family costume for Halloween as a Power Ranger. 2-Dr. Fung has an outstanding team and colleagues working with him at UCLA, who have helped respond to our questions and issues in an extremely prompt fashion. We were especially grateful for this responsiveness and attentiveness when we contacted him about high urgency situations. 3-Dr. Fung has been exceptional in his care of our son and his overall well-being, which was exemplified during one particular instance. We had two planned surgeries (left eye at the beginning of September, right eye to be scheduled in October). Our son jumped off some furniture at home and lacerated his *left* eyebrow, 10 days after he had his *left* eye surgery, and of course, the laceration required stitches. We contacted Dr. Fung and went to the ER at UCLA (which, conveniently also had access to all of our son’s medical records). Dr. Fung not only responded right away, but he also came to the ER to check on our son - on a Sunday - and to make sure there were no disruptions to the lens implant. He also brought a friend - a specialist in oculoplastics - to repair the cut.
