After suffering a high fever for three days, I was admitted to York Hospital. I spent two more days there getting worse. Several doctors examined me. One tested for West Nile. Others thought that bacteria might be in a cyst on my spine, so I laid in an MRI for one hour and forty-five minutes with a fever, headache and muscle pain while they imaged my entire spine. (It was fine.) After that, they tried to do an LP to test for meningitis, but they failed. Another doctor speculated that I might have sarcoidosis, or lupus. More tests were ordered. Then Dr. Quartey was assigned to my case. He walked in my room, sat, looked at me, asked questions, examined me. After about ten minutes, he said he thought I had pneumonia. He prescribed an antibiotic and took me off all the other stuff I was on. A CAT scan he ordered confirmed his diagnosis. Within hours the fever and all the other symptoms were gone. I sat up. I ate. I showered. I was happy. Dr. Quartey was the doctor who diagnosed my condition. He did it quickly. Dr. Quartey is okay by me. He's first rate. After five days of fever and two days in the hospital with no diagnosis and some frightening ideas from the doctors, Dr. Quartey entered my room, examined me and said he believed I had pneumonia. Tests proved him right, and I was better after the antibiotic kicked in. He spared me some painful tests.
