This doctor ruined my life. He's a butcher. He botched a surgery that had to be corrected with a fusion by another surgeon. Not once after my surgery did he see me; instead, he had PA's see me, and the PA initially MISSED the problem on my xray following the surgery that I noticed. I am not alone in my experience. I had spinal stenosis and scoliosis. I consulted several spine doctors and neurosurgeons in Seattle and D.C. area where I used to live. Some recommended a major fusion surgery that would make most of my spine stiff. Some said not to have surgery and treat pain with medications. I had been on pain meds for close to 10 years and did not want to live my life on opioid pain medications. Dr. Keem recommended minimally invasive spine surgery that involved fusion of only 3 areas where spontaneous fusion was already happening. He explained to me that he was de-fusing already fused areas to take pressure off nerves, correct crooked spine and fusing them back in a better position. Surgery took only 3 hours all together, One year later, I am standing straight and exercising everyday. I finished a round of golf with my best score in life last weekend. I had major surgery on my neck four weeks ago by Dr Keem. I haven’t ever met a doctor who cares endlessly for me as a patient while taking such pride in his own work. I feel so much better and have already given Dr Keem’s name to a friend. I am so glad that after seeing two other doctors for opinions about my cervical spine problems I found Dr Keem. The quality of Dr. Keem's work is superb. I literally gasped when I saw x-rays of my cervical spine before and after surgery. The difference was astonishing. His staff is wonderful--knowledgeable, kind and efficient.

Dr Keem and his staff were fantastic. They made the entire procedure easy for me and I always felt safe and in good hands. I would recommend him to anyone needing a surgical procedure on their spine and felt very fortunate that he was affiliated with the Polyclinic.

Dr. Keem performed a failed C5-C6 artificial disc replacement surgery on me, and I received negligent post-op care from his office. He left town for a lecture very soon after my surgery and I started having post-surgical complications right away. (I hope he wasn't speaking on how to care for your patients post-surgery, or how to perform a successful artificial disc replacement.) My disc ended up migrating, and I have ongoing issues with the alignment of my spine. These concerns were not addressed in a timely fashion due to Dr. Keem's absence. Even since then, he has been evasive, inattentive, and inadequate. I'm living with intense daily pain and need at least one more surgery - I'll be going to the Mayo Clinic this time - to attempt to fix what he's done. If you're considering a surgery with Dr. Keem, please, please do your research on him, and maybe consider someone else. There are better options in Seattle. Three months ago, Dr. Keem performed outpatient surgery on my low back. I've just returned from a trip to Jackson WY where I was whitewater rafting, went on a half day horseback ride and hiked in the mountains as well. In addition to that, I drove round trip from Seattle. Six months ago, driving, sitting and turning over at night was so painful, I could barely function and I couldn't have imagined taking any trips much less participating in any activity. While I'm 75, it was the first time I'd ever felt old. Due to Dr. Keem's outstanding skill as a surgeon, I have no more pain and am once again active. After my first consultation with him, I never considered getting a second opinion. I was so comfortable with Dr. Keem's demeanor and explanations and that coupled with his reputation made it an easy decision. And, my gut instinct was right. Dr Keem is an amazing surgeon. Unfortunately I had an occurrence that put me literally in a wheel chair, or limited to walking with use of a cane due to severe sciatica in my left leg. I had my new MRI sent to Dr Keem. He compiled it showing me on the video screen my entire back. He started at the top and went all the way to the end like driving down a highway. It was quite clear the two areas of stenosis (developed over time) and the bulged disc that occurred two months before. I had tried a cortisone shot, and it provided just short term relief. The symptoms were not healing with time, and I was concerned about the sudden disability that took me out of my job. He explained to me what he could do for me, fixing the 3 areas. He also had an opening at Swedish Hospital in the following week. The surgery was a success. I have returned to my job as a flight attendant/purser 5 weeks after the surgery. I do not feel any residual pain or real discomfort. I am grateful, truly grateful!

I’d suffered from back pain for over a year because Aetna wouldn’t approve an MRI. When I finally got the MRI it was forwarded as a referral to Dr. Keem. Dr. Keem and his staff reached out over the weekend and immediately got me in for a consultation. After going through all the options and associated prognosis I was able to make an informed decision to proceed with surgery. To say the results were satisfying would be an understatement. The closet thing I can compare this to is when I had Lasik and within 24 hours could see better than I had in years. Almost immediately following spinal surgery my constant pain was gone. I could walk, bend, and do all the simple things I had avoided for over a year. During the follow up visit Dr. Keem took time to go over the surgery and address all my concerns. I went from pain every minute, to none at all. The surgery is tough and the recovery will challenge you for a few days, but on the other side you'll be thanking Dr. Keep and his breakthrough techniques every minute.

Dr. Keem is the best! He explained everything regarding my spine problems and let me decide what to do. I had a disk fragment resting on a nerve and was in a lot of pain. I decided to go ahead with the surgery and have never regretted it. I have been pain free ever since the surgery. Due to the procedure he used for my surgery I had a quick recovery. I would highly recommend Dr. Keem.

Not even sure where to start, so bear with me. Grade 2 spondy L4 on L5 with complete disc degeneration (bone on bone) and with anterior scoliosis due to instability of the overall region. Dr. Keem laid out the risks and potential rewards of an OLIF procedure and given that I felt I had no choice on account of future deterioration, I signed up for it. Surgery was 12/23/2020 and went as textbook. I cannot believe I feel the way that I do so soon after. Xrays post-surgery as well as after first check-in showed perfect alignment and stable bolting. Incision sites had no problems. But, for those reading, do expect wide variance of how you might feel every 4 or 5 days. WALK, WALK, WALK, and that will reward you. Dr. Keem did amazing work and I'm more than fortunate to have received his care. WORTH THE WAIT, so do NOT give up. Trust him with your care. I cannot give him more thanks than I already have. Unbelievable work, truly.

My experience and results after surgery with Dr. Keem were incredible. I was diagnosed with spondylolisthesis (grade 3) and was recommended by my general practitioner to Dr. Keem. Form the moment we met he was caring and genuinely concerned about the slippage progression. I decided to go for the surgical route. Although insurance was an uphill climb to get the surgery approved, him and his team were extremely helpful and pushed forward with the diagnosis. After one year of my L5-S1 OLIF I am completely healed. It's not unlit you recover from your debilitating condition that you realize how deteriorating life was. I am pill free! Which is something I have not been able to say in a long time. I am eternally grateful to Dr. Keem and the team that helped me through my difficult times.

Dr. Sean Keem is the most trusting spinal surgeon in Seattle. My GP told me "He will not perform surgery on you unless it is absolutely going to help you and I would send my loved ones to him." In 2019 I had two surgeries from Dr. Keem. The first one was a fusion of the cervical spine at C5-6 and C6-7. The surgery removed my migrane headaches and the return of feeling came back in my left arm. The 2nd surgery happened approximately 6 months later to my lower spine. The procedure was a two day surgery and quite complicated but well worth it since I was unable to walk. The surgery was called OLIF and fusion of L3-4, L4-5, and L5-S1. While this surgery was difficult and healing time lengthy, I am very grateful to be able to walk again. I would definitely trust Dr. Keem and his calming and gentle spirit.

I had severe DDD in cervical spine. Dr. Keem performed a 2-level artificial disc replacement, which has worked wonders to almost elimate my pain and radiculopathy symptoms. Within 4 weeks I'm back to normal activities! Dr. Keem communicated clearly, and his staff followed through on communication and scheduling (even through the difficulties of the COVID shutdown). I couldn’t even get an appt with him. I was seeking another opinion after getting varying diagnosis and treatment info from my current doc. Scheduling told me that I can’t see him without a referral. I told them that I have a referral, but not to him. They said to send it over with my records and he will determine if he will see me. It’s unfortunate as I’d like to discuss my issues and journey to seek answer with him. All of which are not documented in my records (they are just a piece of the puzzle). Ultimately I’m seeking a spine specialist, not just someone who will take me if I only need surgery.

DR Keem performed a spinal fusion on my L5-L4 vertebrae. When I awoke from surgery the pain that had been plaguing me for months was immediately gone. Dr. Keem left out an important detail regarding my prognosis which, had I known, may have made me choose a different path. Instead, I elected to have an artificial disc inserted in my cervical spine. The disc did not set properly due to a bone spur, causing more pain than I originally had. After receiving a second opinion, I am now going to have to have another surgery. Dr. Keem throughout the process never saw me once after surgery. This experience has been frustrating and painful.

I had chronic back pain for decades because of spondylolisthesis. This year I started having leg pain and weakness too. I became inactive and gained 50 pounds. More than ten years ago I learned that I had a broken back. It was something I'd been living with for decades, probably since I was a child. At the time, a different surgeon told me that I should wait as long as possible, as surgery at the time was highly invasive. He also told me I'd know when it was time- when I couldn't wait any longer. Flash forward about a decade and I started to have nerve issues in my leg and some loss of leg control. I'd trip when standing or walking only to see there wasn't anything that had caused me to trip- it was just my leg not responding correctly. With this, I knew it was time for surgery. I looked around at doctors. Back surgery is a huge decision. While I've had plenty of surgeries before, this time someone would be operating on my spine. That's not something anyone takes lightly. I chose Dr Keem and only met him once before my surgery. That was fairly intense, but his bedside manner and the staff at the surgery clinic made the experience very worthwhile. I won't pretend it was an easy surgery. It was certainly more intense than anything else I've had done. But it's also a huge life difference. Before my surgery I'd slowly gotten to the point where I wouldn't take long walks anymore. I just didn't know if I'd find myself unable to go further, so I'd cut that out of my life. Dr Keem gave me back my life! My back problems got worse and worse over the years to the point where I gauged my participation in every activity by how much walking I would have to do. Last summer I realized things had taken a turn for the worse right before I went on a cruise. I couldn't take a step without pain, I couldn't walk more than a few feet without having to sit down and I couldn't manage at all without a cane. The minute I got back I called my primary doctor for a referral and met with Dr Keem. My best friend and my niece came with me so that we could compare our feelings about him. Dr. Sean Keem is an awesome and patience doctor. He is honest and truthful but sincere and caring. Twelve years ago I had an option of not walking or having surgery. I opted for the surgery. My surgery was 18 hours long. According to my family, Dr. Keem never left the operating room. Dr. Sean Keem was recommended by my personal physician. Dr. Keem reviewed my x-rays and MRI and concluded that my back from T-10 to S-1 had moderate to severe scoliosis. Dr. Keem recommended a procedure the would correct my damaged nerves and scoliosis. Through the surgical procedure, I regained 2 inches in height that was lost and the nerves are repairing.

I had neck surgery 8/17 by Dr Keem and my life is so much better now. I waited about three years too long because I was afraid of the surgery but I’m so happy I found Dr Keem thru a friend. No number of pain meds could keep my pain bearable until after the surgery. I haven’t had a bad migraine since the surgery and usually I had 1-4 per week. He’s caring and really explains the details to you. My husband is so impressed with my results that Dr Keem will be doing surgery on his back too.

Dr Keem diagnosed and corrected the major cause of my migraines and Laryngeal Spasms caused by severely misaligned and arthritic C4, C5 vertebrae. I have had no pain from the surgery and the Cervical (Neck) Implants by "MEDTRONIC" that he used. He is very personable and took the time to understand my overall condition ( unlike other specialist I consulted with prior). Additionally with the removal of a very large Cervical Osteophyte (Bone Spur) on the forward side I am now pain and spasm free.

Had back surgery with Dr Keem. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone who asked. He did excellent work, explained what needed to happen and why, and had my complete trust. Great surgeon!

I could hardly walk two blocks and was in continuous pain. 6 weeks after surgery I am out walking 3+ miles pain free. I am 73 years old and this gave me an important part of my life back.

I suffered worsening back pain and leg pain and weakness for decades. I tried cortisone injections and physical therapy without success. I had spondylolisthesis. Dr. Keem performed a minimally invasive spine surgery that corrected my spondylolisthesis and my back pain and leg problems went away. The nerve pain that used to wake me up is gone. I am planning my ski trip in Austria this winter. That one hour long surgery that left me a two inch faint scar on my side transformed my life.

Dr. Keem and his team are fantastic. I could barely walk with spinal stenosis and other lower lumbar issues. Dr. Keem evaluated my condition and determined a fusing of L4 and L5 and some clean up work would make me better. He was right! After a 24 hour hospital stay and a walker, I was able to get around the first evening. I am SO MUCH BETTER. Dr. Keem is a miracle worker and I couldn't ask for a better turnout. Thank you Dr. Keem. Dr. Keem's surgical skills were life transforming for me! I had shooting pains in both legs due to severe spinal stenosis in L3-L5. In two back-to-back surgeries Dr. Keem and his team laparoscopically repaired the lumbar discs and replaced the damaged cartilage. The immediate results were spectacular: no more pain in either leg and the knee I thought might need replacement is now pain free. This is so far and beyond my expectations I can't thank Dr. Keem and his team enough for their efforts.

My experience with Dr. Keem and his staff for a Posterior Spinal Fusion of L1-5, and more, 6 months ago has been excellent. I interviewed a total of 6 surgeons from three different systems (Polyclinic, independent, Swedish Neurological Institute). Dr. Keem's explanation of his minimally invasive approach was clear, his demeanor calm and reassuring, so I felt he was the best match for me. 6 months later I am in great shape, pain free and no complications. I highly recommend Dr. Keem.

Dr. Keem is very patient, takes time necessary to inform you of problem and options to treat it. Though he is a surgeon, surgery is not his first suggestion to address a problem. He is very competent and answers all questions you have. He never talks down to you.

I was diagnosed with lumbar sponylolisthesis at 18. I always had back pain that got worse after the childbirth. The pain became insufferable and it consumed my life. I saw 6 spine surgeons and neurosurgeons. Dr. Keem was my 3rd opinion and I decided to go with him because of his reputation and his ability to listen to my problem carefully and explain the treatment clearly. His surgical option was the least invasive, too. One year after surgery, I am so glad I made the right decision!!

Dr Keem was prepared with my medical history when I first saw him. He listens well. He told me that he would be the surgeon, not a resident or other colleagues. Result excellent. Pain mostly gone (was told pain would go within 6 mo) & complete healing within a year. Am very happy with results & with ability to walk without a lot of pain. Highly recommend Dr. Keem.

Dr. Keem fixed my debilitating tension headache that I suffered for 20 years. I tried everything under the sun to get some relief and nothing worked. He fixed the problem for good in one afternoon with a 45 minute surgery: cervical artificial disc replacement. He is a good doctor and skilled surgeon. I cannot thank him enough.

At our first meeting October 2016 I was immediately impressed with Dr.Keem's warm and professional manner. Since I would be having a lumbar fusion, which requires major surgery, I was understandably concerned. When Dr. Keem carefully explained what the surgery would entail plus what I could expect in a long recuperation, I relaxed knowing I would be in the hands of this wonderfull surgeon. I was operated on by Dr Keem twice, most recent about 7 years ago. Thanks to him I'm able to walk unassisted even though my spine was almost severed where it meets my hip region. What a gifted Doctor and human being. Everyone I've ever referred to him has high praise, wish we still had him in Georgia.
