The doctor had not been informed the reason for my visit. When I tried to explain to him why I was there he was dismissive, spoke over me, didn't let me complete a thought or a sentence and repeatedly told me this was not a condition that involved a vision while he turned and made a notation of the name of the condition that he asked for two or three times. The condition is Persistent Postural Perceptual Dizziness, PPPD, which boils down to visual overstimulation. We have been trying to find a solution to this problem for over a year and had been to every other potential specialist to find a diagnosis. During evaluation in vestibular therapy (my second course of this treatment) the therapist performed additional tests which he hadn't previously that indicated this newly defined and not well known condition. I was expecting to see a neuro-ophthalmologist based on his findings and communications with my team. After insisting several times there was nothing that could be done through vision for this problem and that vision wasn't a factor. I insisted myself that I wanted to see the specialist I had been sent to see in the first place. The soonest appointment available was October of 2023. Now I have to spend another year dealing with the dizziness, nausea and vomiting on a daily basis. Which not only keeps me from being able to work, attend religious and social activities as well as treatment and other medical appointments. Throughout the entire visit I was treated like a child who knew nothing about their own body or conditions. I am not a stupid person. I am very intelligent, well educated and very articulate with my abilities to describe the extensive problems I have with my health. I am more than capable of doing my own research as well as what my team is able to do. My primary source of information regarding medical problems that I struggle with is the Mayo Clinic or an equally reputable site. His holier-than-thou thou demigod-on-apedestal attitude was not only offensive but ineffectual at best to meet my needs. There were also comments about the competency of the rest of my team in regards to not just sending me to the correct doctor but understanding the condition in the first place. This was nowhere near the Excellence I was expecting based not only on MEE's reputation but my own previous experiences. I left the office in tears, the result of the treatment I received. The only positive aspect of the visit was receiving a new eyeglass prescription which I needed, but he was not the one that did that part of the exam. It was a very nice young lady who actually listened and made extensive notations in the chart of what I had told her about my experience with this issue over the past year. She also asked questions to clarify what I had said. Overall it was the most distressing medical appointment I have ever experienced.

It doesn't get better than this place for your eyes because they REALLY care. And, IF you are lucky enough to end up with Dr. Scott Greenstein, you'll never see anyone else again; the man is 100% magical - and a heck of a nice guy!

Dr. Greenstein is willing to explain various in a manner which is thorough and easy to understand. The students working with him display the same willingness to engage and to explain.

Dr. Greenstein performed both my cataract surgeries on my left and right eye. Everything went flawlessly on both surgeries done at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear. Dr. Greenstein and every single member of his staff was caring, kind and excellent in all areas of my care. I am thrilled with the results.

Professional and caring.

Dr. Greenstein takes all the time needed to answer your questions. I consulted with him for a second opinion on cataract surgery recommended by my ophthalmologist because I have a condition called pseudo exfoliation. He did not think is was necessary at this time. However, he reviewed my eye pressure history and referred me to a glaucoma specialist. I have a pending appointment with this doctor. Mass eye & ear is the gold standard when it comes to vision health issues

I see Dr. Greenstien once a year. I have type 2 diabetes and must be checked yearly for diabetic retinopathy. I have been his patient for over 11 years. I greatly appreciate and value his expertise, efficiency, and professionalism. I am very fortunate to have him as my ophthalmologist.

Dr. Greenstein is an amazing, caring doctor who takes time to listen and answer any questions. He was also extremely thorough and made sure I had all of my tests done on the same day so not to make me come back for another appointment. I would highly recommend him!

Dr Geesten is the absolute best eye Dr I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. I see him faithfully every year. He did my cataracts a couple of years ago and made a world of difference in my distance vision and my night driving.

Dr. G himself was fine, but I had to wait an hour and 45 minutes. I am not exaggerating that. He was sincerely apologetic about it at least. He said it's hard b/c earlier in the pandemic they were getting a lot of no shows. But still, they need to figure this out b/c I can be patient, but it's not SAFE to have to be in a room with dozens of other people for that long during a pandemic. Forget the rest, Dr G is the best! I don’t want to recommend him too highly, have him overwork and/or not be available when my wife or I need him.

Dr. Greenstein is proficient and efficient, yet he also takes the time to explain every detail and implication of test results. He reviews - thoroughly - with you your file and answers questions in a thoughtful, honest and direct manner. I highly recommend him and value his expertise and judgment.

Top notch Doctor and I would not trust anyone else with my cataract surgery. When I first went to him for a second opinion, he did pretty much every test imaginable to make sure I was getting the right lens. Further, he knows his field inside and out so you will simply not find as skilled of a Doctor anywhere.

I've had cataracts in both eyes done and would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Greenstein was very thorough and explained what was wrong with my sight and what he recommended in the future. He and his staff were very friendly , courteous, thorough and I left feeling I will eventually have better vision . Dr. Greenstein recommended another surgeon to me and I have an appointment with that doctor.

My initial visit to Dr. Greenstein ‘s office was very good. Dr. Greenstein took his time explaining to me thoroughly of the procedures that he would take performing cataract surgery. I was impressed with all the screening devices for cataract. Dr. Greenstein also explained to me what to expect and how to care for my eye after surgery.

Dr Greenstein was covering for two other doctors who were unexpectedly out that day. Yesterday he was on time and patiently answered all my questions and addressed all my concerns. He is fabulous!

While I was waiting in the exam room, I overheard Dr. Greenstein explaining to a patient about her upcoming cataract surgery. He took a lot of time with her and made her (and me) pretty comfortable with the procedure. Even though he is extremely busy he took the time to make sure his patient was informed and ready for what came next.... my visit with him was very simple but I now know that he is the right doctor for me.

Dr. Greenstein was both professional and personable during my multiple office visits, both pre and post op. He took the time to answer all of my questions (and there were many) and I felt most comfortable having him perform cataract surgery on both of my eyes. I am thrilled with the outcome as my vision hasn't been this good in many, many years. I see Dr. Greenstein for annual eye exams and astigmatism issues. Dr. Greenstein is also a cataract surgeon, however I did not need those services. He also only sees adults 18 and over, he does not see children as patients. In all of my interactions with him he has shown nothing but the highest level of professionalism and care, and as he's going through the eye exam and testing he explains what he's doing and why he's doing it. He also will give suggestions for at-home things you can try depending on your issues. I asked him about eye drops that are good for dry, tired eyes and he gave some over the counter suggestions, and as someone who wears eye makeup and mascara he explained the safest way to apply and remove makeup, especially as someone who wears contact lenses. He maintains good rapport with patients and maintains a professional and polished look in the clinic. You really feel like you're being treated like a VIP even though you're in a public hospital.

I see Dr. Greenstein for annual eye exams and astigmatism issues, and am extremely pleased with both the level of care and professionalism he takes with each patient. He has the personality, intellect, polished look, and bedside mannerisms of a high level physician, while maintaining a down to earth connection with his clinic and surgical patients.

He looked exhausted. Maybe burnt out and in need of a vacation. His staff was wonderful.

Excellent service

I've had cataract surgery on both eyes with two different ophthalmologists. Dr Greenstein did the second one and it was an outstanding experience throughout. His excellent explanations of lens choices enabled me to make an informed decision. He spent time explaining the procedure at length. Nursing care at Mass Eye and Ear was superb and considerate. Lying down for the procedure was much more comfortable than sitting and warm blankets and knee pillows added to the comfort. Conscious Anesthesia was perfection - no pain, and quick recovery. My eye functioned well the next day without swelling, pain or bruising and is healing rapidly. I experienced none of the unpleasantness of the first procedure done in a 'cataract factory': the first surgeon was impatient, she spent minimal time explaining lens choices; induction of local anesthesia was painful, the surgical procedure was done upright in a chair (under conscious sedation) and was very noisy, lengthy, uncomfortable, with disconcerting, bizarre visual effects; nursing care was indifferent; after the eye patch was removed I could not see clearly for weeks because of extensive swelllng, along with prominent bruising. She neither empathized nor commented on the outcome, but just asked when I would schedule the next operation. Choose wisely for this operation as vision is critical.

Excellent ophthalmologist. Dr Greenstein performed cataract surgery to replace lens. Pre-operative discussions on visual needs and decision on type of lens was made after excellent discussion. Nursing care at MEEI was exquisitely considerate: warm blankets, pillow under knees; anesthesia was perfect (zero pain conscious sedation) but awake and comfortable throughout; left for home an hour after the procedure began. Zero pain, zero swelling, zero bruising the next day. Eye healing well.

I had a somewhat complex situation and cataract surgery was more challenging than normal. My field is optics and I am familiar with the issues that I had. I was impressed by Dr. Greenstein's depth of knowledge and grasp of my condition and what precautions were necessary in the operation. He was friendly and explained everything in depth to me. You could not go to a better doctor.

Positively the most arrogant person I've ever met. He was rushed, offering little explanation about my mother's condition, recommended procedure, and prognosis. His answers to questions were clipped and included statements like, "as a Harvard trained doctor of 40 years of experience, I should know". As soon as my mother stated that she wanted to think her decision for surgery over, he put his back to her & began typing his notes. He may be a technical marvel, but his patient conduct is horrific.

Dr Greenstein gives excellent care and is extremely patient . He takes the time to explain things thoroughly and does not make you feel that you are in an assembly line. He will answer all questions and go the extra distance to ensure you understand any diagnosis and are comfortable during the exam.
