I was referred by my PC MD to Dr. Patel and called to schedule an appointment for a sleep study. I was given a date and time that worked with my schedule. Several days later, I received a text that my appointment was 5 weeks later. When I called to ask why, no valid reason was given for the change, nor was there any effort to make any other arrangements, ie reschedule if someone cancels, etc. Also found it very difficult to talk to a person.

I have been struggling with sleep for a few years and my mother has sleep apnea and RLS. I thought I should consider the possibility that I may have a sleep disorder after speaking with her. After completing my consultation and sleep study it was determined that I did not have sleep apnea but I do have RLS. I was thankful that modifying my diet and taking iron supplements have improved my symptoms enough to not require medication. We did discuss alcohol and other triggers and I now notice when I have good nights vs bad nights based on my intake (food/alcohol)....and thankful that I know have an understanding of my condition and how to best manage it.

After waiting weeks for a sleep study I was “rewarded” with incredibly poor follow up and a condescending follow up filled with conflicting information. After that I was hounded with calls pushing his cpap business and more studies when I don’t even have sleep apnea. If you want to be treated as a dollar sign and not a human being, this is your guy. If you want good treatment and follow through, try somewhere else.

Wait times in office are usually more than an hour. Dr. Patel does not listen well and is very arrogant. He gives me different advice at every appointment. I do not recommend him

There is a reason he was nominated by his peers for 5 consecutive years as "Top Doctor" in sleep medicine. He was focused on identifying the root cause of my sleep issues and not simply band-aideing the problem with sleep aides. Frankly he refused to prescribe them and helped me taper off the medication. It turns out I have RLS and have been using tart cherry juice, compression stockings, and managing my iron intake. I am now off all meds and sleeping the best I have in years. Thank you Dr. Patel and team.

He is TERRIBLE! He diagnosed sleep apnea and then stalked me by phone selling his CPAP supplies. He is rude and NEVER listens. His visits are rushed and there is no communication between the front and back office. Do yourself a favor and take your money and health somewhere else.

Dr. Patel Did a sleep study on my child. He diagnosed her with sleep apnea. At the time she was attending the Honors College at her University and was an Applied Biological Science major. He spoke to her in the most condescending way. He always gave her conflicting directions at each appointment. His bedside manor was terrible and he peddled his CPAP supplies every 3 weeks by literally stalking her by phone to buy more each month. Later, after she graduated from grad school she left his practice and found a wonderful, intelligent, kind and listening Doctor who noticed that on her sleep study report from Patel, her weight was noted as over one hundred pounds heavier than my child. It was also noted that her neck circumference was that of an over weight man. The Doctor performed their own sleep study and found that our child did not have sleep apnea and was misdiagnosed by Dr. Patel. For the 18 months that she saw him she felt like she was only a dollar sign to him.

Huge Mistake!

Harsh, does not listen, rude, long waits, poor bedside manners. Poor communication between front and back office. Diagnoses sleep disorders and then heavily pushes his supplies. Uncaring, no follow through, conflicting advice at each visit. If I had to chose one word to describe my time with dr. Patel it would be "Torturous" I could never recommend him based on my experience with him and the sleep institute.

After being Patels patient and reading the reviews, I'm pretty sure his staff is writing the reviews that have more than one star. He is arrogant, rude, selfserving, does not listen, and doesn't practice honourable medicine, My sleep study results have my height, weight, and neck circumference incorrect. If you want to be diagnosed with a sleep disorder and pay Patel lots of money for the supplues he sells, see him. If you want an honest diagnoses, go anywhere else. He's running a monopoly.

My teenager was diagnosed with Narcolepsy by Dr. patel at the Insomnia and Sleep Institute of Arizona. He prescribed the medication Xyrem, and when she presented with the common side effects to Xyrem of severe depression accompanied by suicidal thoughts, he arrogantly told her to see a psychiatrist, as if she was doing something wrong, but did not choose to stop the medication. Weeks later, doing her own research, my child discovered that a patient that presents with those side effects needs to stop the Xyrem immediately, and she did so. The side effects were so severe that she feels confident if she had not researched for herself and stopped the medication...she would not be here today. Dr. patel is habitually arrogant, has an undesirable bed-side manner, is abrupt, rude and not a team player when you are dealing with a life-altering disease.

If you are looking for a quick fix or a magic pill this doctor is not the one for you. What attracted me to this clinic was the willingness of the provider to seek out the root cause of my sleep issue. If you are looking to participate in your care for long term results then this is the place for you. I am consistently sleeping soundly for the first time in years!

If I could give ZERO stars I would. The worst decision I ever made was taking our young adult child to Dr. Patel. He is harshly abrupt. He refuses to really listen and seems insecure which presents as him being very very arrogant. He prescribed a medication that when common side effects to that medication presented, he without a doubt made my child feel that it was my child’s fault they were experiencing those side effects and told us to see a different Doctor to resolve the issues of the medication he prescribed. He has unfavorable bedside manners and in my year-long experience with him, he has been unavailable in every way that a Doctor should be to any person, especially a young person who is newly diagnosed with a rare life-altering disease. He based several of his medical decisions on what was supposed to be my child’s sleep study, but there on the study results it is printed next to my child’s name, that it is a test for a patient who is 100 lbs. heavier, 6 inches taller, and who has a BMI of 41%. How a CPAP is set is factored with the individual patients BMI. Without an exact BMI, the CPAP cannot be set therapeutically or even accurately. The Insomnia and Sleep Institute perform the sleep study tests there in their offices, then they HEAVILY push sales of the supplies for the CPAP which absolutely contradict good business practices. Since every person diagnosed with a sleep disorder is a potential lifetime paying customer...even if in our case, their sleep study information is obviously incorrect to do to either a clerical error or being the actual test result of another patient being passed off as my child’s. If you desire an honorable practice, or to be paired with a Physician to walk with you through your diagnosis, AVOID this practice at all cost!

I am not a "usual" candidate for apnea. I'm thin, female, don't snore--but in my early 70s. Dr Patel diagnosed me as having "severe sleep apnea"!. I was shocked. I tried several masks and the standard mouth device for those--like me--who couldn't tolerate the masks he offered .I paid for a custom mouth piece. Mine was 2600.00-not covered by insurance. My sleep was not improved. A subsequent sleep study at the Mayo -a year later-showed I had NO sleep apnea! Something is "not right" at Patel's..

Dr. Patel is an excellent physician with an excellent bedside manner that is far from being smug and arrogant as per the prior review. I was referred to him for possible sleep apnea, which was addressed very well but he also requested that we work to actually DISCONTINUE Ambien that I had been taking for many years even though that was not a concern of mine but rather it was to him. I am sleeping very well now without Ambien! Highly recommend him as he is one of the best docs I've ever seen!

I had 2 overnight sleep studies done. After the first one he told me I had mild sleep apnea. When I read my report he wrote, it said that I had moderately severe sleep apnea. There were 4 other errors in my report. He said I was married and I was not, etc. After 2nd sleep apnea study. I was told I also have restless leg syndrome which is why I wake up exhausted every morning. The PA said 'We didn't pick it up the 1st time'. In addition, she admitted that they 'under-treated me for the past year, because my machine was not set high enough on the pressure'.No wonder I didn't feel any better. Then she recommended that I take gabbapentin for RLS, an anti-seizure medicine. I said no, and got a 2nd opinion. The other Dr. put me on Mirapex and I am doing better. The other Dr. said that gaabbapentin was not the 1st line of medication that should be recommended for that condition. That it was 2nd line and Mirapex should be tried first. Also, I have tried for 6 mos. to get my 2nd sleep study from them. Twice they sent the other Dr. the first one. I still have not been able to get it because they do not return my calls. Their patient portal never worked for me. The only positive thing I can say is that their staff is very friendly.

I've struggled with insomnia for about 30 years. When I saw Dr. Patel he was quick to have me complete a sleep study although the information received from the study didn't tell me anything about my insomnia. He then wanted to try several medications for sleep, all of which I have tried before without success. I figured that he would know how to help me with insomnia as his practice is the 'Insomnia and Sleep Institute'. But the only thing he offered was more medication.

I saw Dr. Patel for lack of sleep and possible sleep apnea. I wake up every night at the exact same time and my mind races. I was told it was for sure apnea so I spent the money for a sleep test and eventually a CPAP. I ended up sleeping less with the CPAP and had major sinus problems that ended with my eardrum being ruptured on the lowest settings. The Dr did not take into account major sinus problems and blamed all of my sleep problems on Apnea. After a $1200 over all bill, I returned the CPAP, lost hearing and they have no answers other than try a mouth piece for another $600 that 'might' work. He is just selling CPAP's and has no other answers..

This was one of the best experiences we've had with a doctor (for my 7 yo daughter). Aside from a good experience with scheduling the appointments, Dr. Patel and his staff are wonderful. Hardly any wait once we got there and Dr. Patel is warm and sincere, is knowledgeable, and has a great bedside manner. He truly listens and wants to help. His techs for the sleep study are pleasant and accommodating. I would highly recommend Dr. Patel and his practice for anyone needing sleep help.

I felt like Dr Patel was pretty rude. Just every time I've seen him he seems to have something against me. The whole session he was just flagrant with his demeanor and made no real attempt to settle the situation. He got mad at me for stretching my neck, when I had gone to the chiropractor earlier that day for neck pain. And then afterward he quizzes me on every little detail of his speech to make sure that I was listening. In general this guy has been unpleasant, without provocation.

Since relocating to Phoenix from Atlanta 5 years ago, Dr. Patel was one of a VERY few doctors that gave me the same level of professional care and courtesy that I had become accustomed to. He is knowledgeable, patient, and interested. Of over a dozen doctors that I've seen here, only he and one other doctor, (Dr. Peter Kubitz), are like the physicians at Emory Hospital and Gwinnett Medical Center in metro ATL. I would rather fly back to GA than be cared by 99.99% of the doctors here in PHX!
