About Dr. Ronald A. Simon
Reviews for Dr. Ronald A. Simon
I’ve been a patient of Dr Simon’s since mid 80’s when he first diagnosed my food sensitivity to sulfites. Every other Dr had misdiagnosed it as MSG, food dye, peanut allergies. For this, Dr Simon changed my life. He put me on RX protocols to lessen severity of anaphylaxis, and helped me live a more normal life in knowing which foods to avoid. He’s always asked me questions to further his understanding of symptoms, and readily shares most recent research updates for asthma. After seeing other Drs closer to my town, I always return and make the 3 hr drive to Scripps to get his opinion. He has advised me against a needless sinus surgery rec by another local dr by stopping antibiotics-and within 3 days my symptoms disappeared. Dr Simon always takes time to discuss questions, family life, and I trust him implicitly. I’ve been a patient of Dr Simon’s since mid 80’s when he first diagnosed my food sensitivity to sulfites. I have been a patient of Dr. Simon for about 3 years. He is a truly caring doctor who takes time to explain your condition. He is one of the most knowledgeable doctors I have had. He was immediately willing to prescribe Fasenra for my Eosinophilic Asthma, which has changed my life completely, I had been suffering not being able to breathe for 10 years without any help from oral prednisone and inhalers. I am so thankful to have found Dr. Simon. His nurse Cindy is amazing. What a team of excellence, I highly recommend Dr. Simon at the Encinitas Scripps office.
I have been a patient of Dr. Simon for almost 3 years. On my first visit, I was so impressed how much time he took to explain my condition, Eosinophilic Asthma, so well and why Fasenra works so well for this. I saw him again this year and he went out of his way to provide vital information and gave me specific guidelines how to slowly get off oral prednisone which I had been taking for 12 years. He is never rushed, very kind and knowledgeable. His nurse, Cindy is just as kind and caring. What an excellent team. I highly recommend Dr. Simon.

I have never written a review in my life for a Dr but I cannot help myself on this guy. He is a real beauty. The guy had no interest in my opinion or my symptoms, but rather he wanted to push his beliefs. He had ZERO of my past medical records yet, when I told him I had Lyme Disease for 5 years and was successfully treated he just stated...you never had Lyme Disease. I informed him the antibiotics although helpful caused a lot of stomach issues for me and that being on a Candida diet removed all of my symptoms within 10 days -- he claims there is NO such thing as Candida. Then he proceeds to tell me I don't have allergies -- I HAVEN'T even told him what my issues or reactions are. I am not sure if he is losing his mind or what his problem is, but it was like a joke where you start looking around for cameras. I stood up and told him this a pointless exercise. He had interrupted my every sentence, had trouble looking me in the eye and just wanted to argue. I walked out and literally told him he is a "nut job" and I want my $40 back. It was so ridiculous my wife and I just laughed about it when we got outside -- like is this for real. Look if you have a child that has allergies or sensitivities, DO NOT go see this guy. He is dangerous. Seriously. I have never written a review in my life for a Dr but I cannot help myself on this guy. He is a real beauty. … More
I saw Dr. Simon today to discuss my one year old son's peanut allergy and also get testing done. I cannot begin to say how awful the appointment was due to Dr. Simon's arrogant and condescending nature. He seemed to interrogate me rather than question me only to interrupt and correct me. I could barely finish a single sentence. He dismissed me when I explained my son's reactions saying it was impossible to know what caused it and perhaps I had washed my son's face too hard giving him a "rash". He began an intense argument with me stating that various issues he had in the past were not possible. At some point I firmly told him that I did not want to discuss it anymore (as the conversation was moving further from my son's issue and turning into a questioning of my judgment) but he continued saying "No, let's discuss it" and just pressed into me further. He never greeted us, never once looked at my son, and didn't discuss any type of treatment or possible outcomes. I would describe my experience with Dr. Simon as controlling, combative, and threatening. On top of all this, before our appointment while in the waiting room, Dr. Simon came into the waiting room and was essentially stalking me and my son. When we walked into the office to check in, the waiting room was completely empty. While at the front desk a woman came into the waiting room. When I turned around at the sound of the woman entering through the door, I saw Dr. Simon standing off to the side. He kept very close to us, "wandering" around us. I thought it odd in the moment as I felt like I was being watched. When Dr. Simon walked into our room to see us I thought, "Oh, that is the man from the waiting room", but then I pushed aside my thought because I figured, what kind of Dr. would be in the waiting room swarming patients? Yes, it was him. Very odd and concerning behavior. This man should not be interacting with patients. I saw Dr. Simon today to discuss my one year old son's peanut allergy and also get testing done. I fully stand behind the others. I always read reviews first, and this time, I did not. My experience is this doctor is close minded. I ASKED his staff that first. He is arrogant, arguementative and is a perfect representation of the defunct medical system we have in this country. If you're of the sheep mentality, then he might work out. For those who KNOW BY EXPERIENCE that natural medicine is not a back up system and is NOT a poorly researched, substandard system, you will not like his rigid adherence to old school bs. If you value a doctor that has not lost the ability to listen and to remain a life student (possessing humility), then I recommend you look elsewhere. You will not find that in Dr Simon, and that is most unfortunate. Outdated, archaic, you are likely to find in his office. He is way behind the current data and still actually believes that unless you have lived in NE United States, you have no concern about having Lymes. Long live the sheep who love to stay soundly asleep! I fully stand behind the others. I always read reviews first, and this time, I did not. … More
Same experience as the other reviewers. Dr. Simon was condescending, dismissive, arrogant, and rude. When we were discussing a food ingredient that I suspect I have reactions to, he tells me to get educated and that there is no test for food dyes because there is no possible allergy. Fine and all, but I was simply answering the questions of what things seemed to set me off. I'm here to find out and give you data. Spare me your lectures. Definitely going to a different doctor. I don't need the abuse. I had to give him one star in order to post review. Otherwise, no stars and I wish they had negative stars. Same experience as the other reviewers. Dr. Simon changed my life. First, it was obvious to him how bad I had been suffering and the heightened level of allergies I was experiencing. Now I told him what I thought was going one and he said, let's do some testing. Upon testing, it really backed up what I thought but was a surprise to both of us. Not only did he spend time educating me he gave me a plan of attack. Now here is where it gets even better. The plan of attack didn't work. And after really fighting to make it work for 6 months, I went back in. He didn't make me feel like I wasn't trying hard enough. He and I spoke further and discussed a new plan of attack and some different treatment options. They worked. I'm a new person. My quality of life is 100 x's better and it is honestly all because he really listened to me and took what I had to say, and also spent the time educating me. Dr. Simon is an amazing well versed allergist. I'm a raving fan! Dr. Simon changed my life. My experience with Dr. Simon was horrible. Clearly I am not alone. I had a very uncomfortable rash and needed help. He did not examine me, he had difficulty making eye contact, his language and mannerisms were patronizing and arrogant, he stated that my behavior was “not right and bizarre,” he had no compassion for my discomfort, and he was incredibly condescending. Simon barely looked at my chart, did not adequately inquire about my symptoms, and came to a conclusion without getting any of my feedback and very little personal information. When I tried to converse about his conclusion, which was empty and hastily stated, then he became annoyed and very defensive. I naively thought this Dr. would try to help or offer some advice, yet the only thing he accomplished was degrading me at an already difficult state. He tried to tell me that everything I was experiencing was due to stress and “in my head.” Simon barely inquired or looked at my records or condition; he never examined me and seemed uncomfortable making eye contact. He interrogated me when I tried to speak; cutting me off to explain how double blind studies work (which I know being a Statistics Professor). I also am aware of how stress can be the root cause of a lot of physical issues; yet, I don’t believe a patient in distress and discomfort should be forced to pay money for irrational ranting and rude behavior from a so-called expert. He presents himself as an allergist, but behaves like a psychiatrist. He also ranted about Sigmund Freud’s work -- only convoluting the visit more by discussing a dead cocaine addict who made a career out of dismissing women, among other things. This rant by Simon was completely unproductive, arguably ironic, and most certainly a misuse of my time. As a 25+ year sociology Professor, I am quite familiar with Freud’s work. I did not make the appointment to be psycho-analysized and verbally abused – which is the ONLY thing Simon accomplished during the visit. Scripps Hospital unfortunately has done virtually nothing to make the situation right; so, I hope this honest feedback minimizes the chance of more people being victimized and taken advantage of by R Simon.
