Ronald Hoekstra

He was my mentor 25 years ago in MCMC. I learned a lot from him; both medicine and humanity. Such a fantastic man! Thank you once again.

Dr Hoekstra led a team of caregivers for our son born at 24 1/2 weeks in 1990. We had no idea what to do, but with Dr Hoekstra’s guidance, we made it through with flying colors. It was a harrowing time made better by his team.

Dr. Hoekstra was there when my daughter was born in an emergency CSection. He gave his all to my girl (born at 23 weeks weighing @ 1.2 oz) & saved her life 2 times. He recognized the signs & quickly proceeded to pull a team together & perform miracles! Aorta wasn't closed & her lungs had a build up of moisture between the lining. He even was there to help coordinate with other Dr.'s for eye & ostemie surgery. When he was not on duty & other Dr's were completing rounds, I noticed my little munchkin had her setbacks. Once he came on, she continued to thrive & prove the other Drs wrong. Another Dr. told me my daughter shouldn't have lived after contracting RSV from a nearby infant at 4 months old. It was devestating to hear from someone you didn't know well & didn't know my daughter. That night our primary nurse worked the overnight & prayed her through & very slowly my daughter recovered. Upon our discharge, Dr. Hoekstra shared memories & advice. Now she is very healthy & growing 2 fast!
