Dr. Rolando F. Roberto

I had a spinal fusion, decompression and laminectomy on L5-S1. Dr. Roberto broke a screw and bone chips were left pressed into my spinal cord. I was paralyzed on my left side. I was paralyzed on my left side. After being rushed back into another surgery, he had to remove the bone chips and place the new screw elsewhere. I did regain some feeling and strength in my leg, but it was never good again. But he said I would be just fine! He considered it a successful outcome. He refused to listen to me when I tried telling him I had horrible nerve pain, neuropathy, drop foot and walking was hurting my hips, that were fine prior to surgery. He sent me to PT! He’s rude, dismissive, arrogant and has about a 50/50 success rate for spinal surgery!

Dr Rolando saved the better part of my life. I had incapacitating back pain with multiple issues. Some spinal stenosis, some herniated disk, foraminal stenosis, instability of the spine and some arthritis. My regular doctors weren’t doing anything for me but pushing pills and alternative treatments which all seemed to give me a little boost temporarily. I took it upon myself to have minimally invasive surgery in Silicon Valley on the recommendation of a neurosurgeon, who proceeded to crjpple me and leave me in intractable pain. I’m very lucky Dr Roberto was around when the ambulance took me to UCDavis. I’m so glad I listened to him

I had severe spinal stenosis as well as the instability of my L4-L5 lumber vertebrae with resultant pain in my lower back and down my legs. When the pain clinic treatment was not giving longer term relief I agreed to a Laminectomy, decompression and stabilization of my L4-L5 vertebrae with the use of rods and screws. Dr. Rolando Roberto, assisted by Dr. Christopher Holland and their team did a wonderful job. The overall team, all the professionals and support staff, including the UC Davis hospital staff, were excellent and very professional. They gave me and my wife regular and good updates and Dr. Roberto would even call me personally at home to follow up. Now 5 weeks after my surgery I have no pain related to my previous spinal stenosis, and my surgery wound has healed and I am totally medication free. I would wholeheartedly like to recommend this excellent team. Thanks again for this very professional experience.

After many years of back pain and different treatments, I opted for the surgery. Removed bone spurs, did fusion and bone grafts, rods and screws installed. WOW what a relief. Pain 95% gone. Still working on getting back to shape as surgery was 3 months ago but working out at a fitness center 5 days a week and I feel great!! Dr. Roberto and his team did a super job and would recommend them to anyone. UC Davis is the place to go.

Dr. Roberto replaced two discs in my neck a year ago and am still pain free. The recover time was short and I was back at work full time in three weeks. I couldn’t have asked for better results.

Thankful for Dr Roberto. He took great care of my daughter many years back. Today she is living an active, pain-free life. Godbless!

Dr. Rolando Roberto is "my miracle worker". I had spine surgery in November 2018 and when I woke up from the surgery the sciatic pain was gone. Dr. Roberto is wonderful, warm and friendly and so knowledgeable. He explains everything so that you, the patient, can understand what is going on. Dr. Roberto is my Doctor.

On the third anniversary of my surgery I am happy to report I would do it all again. I was 76 years old when Dr. Roberto agreed to do my surgery (in two sessions due to my age) which took 12.5 hrs total. I had all lumbar fused and 20+ screws and two rods in the thoracic region. (This is prone to error, but it is close). There are vertebrae from various sources, including cadaver. I had severe scoliosis and was in much pain. Today I function very well all thanks to Dr. Roberto and his team.

Dr Roberto started treating my daughter at the age of 8 months for infantile idiopathic scoliosis at a 35 degree curvature. My daughter is now 2 years 3 months old and her curvature is now down to only 8 degrees!!!! All of her treatment has been through brace (night and day). My daughter had been his youngest patient and I am beyond pleased and blessed to have him overseeing her though this process. Dr Roberto is VERY knowledgeable, has excellent bedside manner and has always eased all my fears

Dr. Roberto is a great, trust-able, sincere and talented physician. His office always returns calls I made promptly. Six weeks ago I had a nine hour spinal fusion surgery from the pelvis to T-11. My old pains are gone, and now I am just recovering from the surgery itself. So far so good. I am extremely pleased with my surgeon and would recommend him with the greatest regard.

Dr Roberto is a fantastic surgeon. He's taken care of several members of our family and we trust him completely. He really takes time to talk and explain things, and is friendly and good natured too. He cares about his patients and we can't say enough positive things about him.

Lumbar fusion and laminectomy Jan 12, 2017. I don't think I can praise this doctor enough!!! I suffered for years with low back pain, and after my surgery, got immediate relief!! His bedside manner is awesome, his surgical skills are top notch!!!! One couldn't do any better....I highly recommend him to anyone! He truly enjoys his work and it shows. Great doctor!!! He takes his time, really listens and explains everything!

Dr. Roberto is an excellent, top-notch spine surgeon. He has a professional, easy-going demeanor, and an excellent bedside manor. I recently had two disc replacements in my neck, and the UC Davis hospital experience was the best I've had (unfortunately, I've had other previous surgeries at other hospitals). Dr. Roberto, his entire surgery team, and UC Davis Hospital in Sacramento are indeed top tier. Should I need surgery for any future issues, I will surely opt to return to UC Davis.

Dr. Roberto is my hero. I was suffering from severe sciatic nerve pain due to a slipped vertebra that was pressing on my sciatic nerve. Even worse, my right leg was weak, making it difficult for me to walk, let alone do any kind of exercise. Dr. Roberto performed a laminectomy and fusion, and I am completely pain-pain free, and back to spin classes and Pilates reformer training. Back surgery is scary, but Dr. Roberto made it a "painless" experience.

Dr. Roberto could be great, but lacks experience and compassion I had my first spinal fusion surgery March 2012. It could have been successful had Dr. Rolando Roberto and an assisting) followed up on their statement that I had soft bone. Dr. Roberto swore up and down that there was zero chance that I had ANY form of osteoporosis. He was wrong. 2 subsequent surgeries and he curved my back with rods back into a hunchback position. for which I am still taking 100mg of morphine a day.

Rolando Roberto was my spinal surgeon in 2003, I was only 16 at the time. He was an amazing doctor, explaining everything and putting me at ease. He was an amazing surgeon, very progressive in technique. Nearly 15 years later, I am still grateful every day for the quality of life and mobility I have. Thank you!

Dr. Roberto was extremely thorough and personable. I went in with a lot of pain, numbness and pain in fingers on both arms and hands, and severe loss of balance. I was afraid and had a lot of questions. He reviewed the x-rays with me, answered all my questions even the ones I forgot to ask! He took his time with me and never made me feel rushed. I had different friends with me for the pre-op and post-op and they both commented on how thorough and kind he was; he made me feel safe.

Excellent physician. Explained everything and took the time to listen.

Dr. Roberto was awesome!! He did a thorough history and neurological exam, and he related easily with me as well as with my teenage son (the patient.) Dr. Roberto was cheerful and unhurried reviewing the x-rays and mri with us, giving concise clear answers. He obviously enjoys his work and was undaunted by our numerous questions. He was intelligent and caring, thorough and personable. I recommend him without reservation.

Really friendly and funny

Now after a little over 3 months since surgery, I can walk 3 miles a day and feel my strength returning. I am not pain free (no surgery and recovery are) but certainly this has been the best of my surgical experiences and I look forward to full recovery. I am now off of pain medication and take Motrin only occasionally. My back is a degenerative so I know I will never be where I was 13 years ago, but, Dr. Roberto & UC Davis have given me my life back, and I will always be grateful!

I walked in with a list of questions and he answered them. He is a very busy surgeon and I wanted to be organized. I was in extreme pain. If not pain, my legs went numb...no feeling. I was scared so wanted help as fast as I could get it. I'd waited too long with people who thought I just had a muscle pull or.... I felt he treated me with great respect. I even give him credit for the residents, hospital stay, etc. It starts from the top!

Dr. Roberto does not explain information. I was asking him a question and he was walking out the door, made a quick reply and shut the door! I had more questions about the surgery he was advising. I'm supposed to trust my child with a doctor like that? No way!
